Simon Gagne made it through the full practice without any issues, an Terry Murray said Gagne is on track to play Thursday. Look for today’s practice lines to stay intact, as Murray said he has been pleased with Scott Parse’s game and said he likes the look of Dustin Penner with Jarret Stoll and Brad Richardson. More notes and quotes to come, including some self-analysis from Drew Doughty and a look ahead to the Edmonton Oilers…
Hmmm, let’s hear what 007 DD has to say…….

Unless or until Lombardi trades him or unless or until TM makes him a healthy scratch, the third line is the best place for him.

@kngfan004,
Penner finding chemistry with the 3rd line is a good sign, and means that Parse can play his natural position (which he couldn’t coming out of camp). If there’s an injury to Gagne or Parse full time Penner is still there. I don’t have a problem with the move because it’s not a demotion, it’s a chemistry issue. He has fit better in that role than on the stopper line with Richards and Brown going up against the other teams top scorers.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him score some points from anywhere right now, but he’s here for the season, so the Kings just have to deal with it. They can’t just give him away for nothing and take the hit on their depth chart, and they’ll never get a player who’s producing at a higher rate in a trade right now, so you have just to make do, and hope he breaks through.

@kngfan004, The role of a coach is to get the best out of his players. Sometimes, though, the role of a coach is to put a player in a position where he can do less damage than otherwise.

Gagne/Kopi/Williams
Parse/Richards/Brown
Penner/Stoll/Richardson
Clifford/Lewis/Moreau
On Paper these lines look sick.
With Murray coaching them, Offense will still remain an issue.
I’m giving DD a few more games to get the rust out before lashing out at him for playing crappy.

Parse has looked great with Richards and Brown, and Penner’s best game of the season was on the 3rd line with Stoll and Richie. Lets see if they can both keep it going in the right direction.

@KC23, Honestly, to me it’s not shocking. Parse got put where he belongs with a center who makes pretty much anyone look good. Scott is just a ‘Speciality’ Player. LW, top 6, that’s it. He’s bad on the right and really does need a quality center to help create space for his hands and vision to do damage.
I’m happy ’bout it. I love this line. Scott’s confidence is building and you can see it in his play.

AZ King Reply:

@Cynic,
Totally agree. Scott is a finisher. He needs someone to get him the puck, and he knows what to do with it from there.
Parse played well with Kopi when he was healthy, but I think Richards style of play really compliments him a lot more.

Not sure what you mean about too many forwards. The Kings have the league allowed number of players on their roster. If they got rid of anyone somebody else would be brought up to take his place.

Sebastian Reply:

@AZ King, technically, the kings are at 24 players right now including Fraser who is still in IR, so he doesnt count towards the 23 allowed… but if I recall he had told Murray he was ready to play weeks ago and should probably be off IR by now.

Dominick Reply:

@Sebastian, Fraser is not on IR because he never got injured with the Kings to be placed on IR. He officially isn’t anything till the Kings activate him (which won’t be till an injury occurs, and the have 22 players on the active roster).

[Reply]
The fact that the few good plays Penner has made are so easily recognized when they occur is because he isn’t really doing much. Thus the question, what is it that TM likes about his partnering with Stoll and Richardson? Something he has seen in practice? The one thing that comes to mind is that between Stolland Richardson, they give out more than enough hustle to compensate for Penner’s lack of effort.

@frazier king, He will once he gets his timing back. He sat a whole year, then 6 games this season. Even with acamp, and a few games, it takes a while before we’ll see the real Parse playing on top of his game. He’s always had great hands, and the rest will come with more time.
[Reply]
I happen to like the way Penner is looking on that third line but I’m wondering if any of the guys here on the LAKI during the summer that were saying he’d bust out this year are sticking with that. I’d say he’s closer to last year than what was hoped.

I have a buddy who put him on his fantasy team, which I warned against strongly. He has the potential to “bust out.” We all know that, the question is will he? and if so, what will it take to trigger that?

@kingsxstevenxkings, Two goals in 5 games ain’t bad for just starting out, but the thing that has impressed me most is his forechecking. Even in his best days he didn’t look as good as he has since he got on the Richard’s line on the forecheck.
[Reply]
I’ve been known to bash Penner, in fact I’ve done it prior to him coming to LA……..so why quit now.
Penner’s game is regarded as this……..
-slow
-sleepy winger
-prefer not to hit
-like to skate around the ice without the puck
-shot is okay if available
-I wear #25 you can notice that as I don’t move fast
-I’m typically the last backchecker
-I’m last into the offensive zone
-highly effective hanging around the nuetral zone
-can score if you hit me with the puck
-I expect to play on the top line
-I make 4.25 million per year for all of the above assests
-I’m a great team mate, no comments anytime about anything or anyone
-typically management feel they have to play me because of my contract
-coaches have to play me because upper management says
-I get big money for what I do cause I deserve it
-trade me if you can, not likley
-hence I’m unavailable for anything
-I like LA, sunny after practice and I can do what I want out here
-no pressure to perform
-I like it that way
-oh ya, I make 4.25 million or $51,840 per game
…..you can see I’m worth it right?????
