The view from New Jersey; no Bieber fever

Looking for someone to blame for last night’s Kings loss? There’s always Justin Bieber (right). At least Bieber was wearing a Kings hat and several of the “Love for Lokomotiv’’ bracelets. As for the New Jersey Devils, the Kings are probably glad to be rid of them. The Kings scored one goal in 125 minutes [...]

Tonight’s game story (Oct. 25)

Here’s my LAKings.com game recap for tonight, with stats, video and pictures included. Thanks for reading… Devils 3, Kings 0 The Kings are scheduled to practice tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, before their afternoon flight to Dallas.

Murray postgame quotes (Oct. 25)

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) MURRAY: “The game, tonight, is about turnovers. All three goals that New Jersey scores end up being plays that we have possession of the puck and we just don’t execute and they come right back at us and end up scoring. The bottom line is, the best players [...]

Bernier postgame quotes (Oct. 25)

Jonathan Bernier’s postgame thoughts.. (on the Devils’ three second-period goals…) BERNIER: “Next thing we knew, it was 2-0, 3-0. In this league, it’s pretty hard when you don’t score that first goal or come back, especially against that type of team.”

Greene postgame quotes (Oct. 25)

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) GREENE: “With their style, they’re going to capitalize. When you turn pucks over, they’re going to jump with four players every time and outnumber you, with those outnumbered attacks coming back on you. That’s what they did tonight and we didn’t have an answer tonight. We have to [...]

Brown postgame quotes (Oct. 25)

Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts… (on the Devils, and the game…) BROWN: “They played a pretty good game, I think. Any time you play Jersey, it’s going to be a frustrating game. I think it’s important to try to not get frustrated with the way they play. We had some turnovers and they made plays. I [...]

Game 8: Devils 3, Kings 0 (FINAL)

For the second time in eight games, it’s the Kings against the New Jersey Devils, this time on the West Coast. You can catch the game on Fox Sports West and on 1150-AM and affiliates, and all the game updates will be here as well… THIRD PERIOD In goal: It’s still Bernier against Hedberg. End [...]

Scouting the Devils

The status of Petr Sykora, expected to be New Jersey’s second-line left winger, is up in the air for tonight. The New Jersey Star-Ledger reported that Sykora missed today’s morning skate because of flu symptoms. If Sykora is unable to play, the Devils most likely would use defenseman Mark Fraser in a fourth-line role. The [...]

Doughty update, and back to full skates

A couple notes on today’s morning skate. Drew Doughty was once again on the ice in his yellow no-contact jersey, meaning he has yet to be cleared. I asked Terry Murray when Doughty might next see the doctor, and Murray said, “The opportunity will probably be tonight, to see the doctor at the rink. We [...]

Bernier doesn’t feel extra pressure

If you want to register your vote, at the end of this post is a poll about tonight’s starting-goalie decision. What do you think? Regardless, with all the focus on what Jonathan Quick is and isn’t doing, don’t forget that Jonathan Bernier will actually be playing tonight. It’s been a curious month for Bernier, who [...]

Hockey Fights Cancer Awarness Night

Tonight’s game marks the Kings’ observance of “Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night,” with a few things taking place on and off the ice. Players will be using sticks wrapped in lavender tape, as well as lavender laces and special hats during postgame interviews. At the game, the Kings Care Foundation will be auctioning off several [...]

Murray stands by call to start Bernier

After today’s morning skate, Terry Murray was asked about the decision to start Jonathan Bernier and whether, in part, he liked the fact that his backup goalie would be tested early in the season. Murray never quite got around to answering that part of the question, but he did offer a spirited defense of his [...]

Tuesday skate update; no changes

No surprises or changes coming out of today’s morning skate. Drew Doughty will not play, although he might be cleared by a team doctor before the night is done, and Jonathan Bernier will start in goal. Terry Murray offered a spirited defense of his decision to start Bernier instead of Jonathan Quick, so stay tuned [...]

And it was called yellow

One of these things is not like the other… That’s Drew Doughty, still in his no-contact yellow jersey, so his chances of playing tonight would seem to be quite slim. More updates after the morning skate…

Third-jersey schedule

There have been a few questions about the schedule for the Kings’ alternate jerseys this season. As noted last month, the Kings will honor three former players as part of their “Legends Night” series and will wear their vintage purple-and-gold uniforms for those games. The Kings will also wear their third jerseys — which are [...]

Consistency more important than streaks

An NHL season, as the cliche goes, is a marathon and not a sprint. So while the Kings are off to a 5-1-1 start, there’s little time for back-patting. Yes, the Kings got through that brutal early-season stretch. Yes, they just picked up a nice win over a strong-starting Dallas team. But things don’t get [...]

`Unbelievable’ Quick impresses Kings

Timing can be a funny thing. On Monday morning, the NHL announced that Jonathan Quick was its “first star’’ of the week, after three consecutive shutouts. A few hours later, Terry Murray announced that Jonathan Bernier, not Quick, would get the start tomorrow night against New Jersey. Murray said he planned the move before Saturday, [...]

Kings expecting another defensive battle

Tomorrow night, the Kings get a chance to avenge one of their two season setbacks when they host the New Jersey Devils. It was just 11 days ago when the Devils beat the Kings 2-1 in a shootout in Newark. Devils goalie Martin Brodeur hurt his shoulder that night, hasn’t played since and isn’t expected [...]

Doughty edges closer to return

Drew Doughty has missed three games courtesy of the crushing shoulder-to-shoulder check he received from Philadelphia’s Zac Rinaldo on Oct. 15, and it’s unlikely that Doughty will play tomorrow night. Doughty returned to practice this morning, but in a yellow no-contact jersey, and hasn’t yet been medically cleared to play, although by all indications he’s [...]

Murray explains goalie choice

As noted earlier, Jonathan Bernier will get the start in goal tomorrow night against New Jersey. It’s a very interesting decision made by Terry Murray, and one that took me back two years to New York. Early in the 2009-10 season, Quick stopped 28 of 29 shots in a win over the New York Islanders. [...]
