Here’s the expanded update, from Terry Murray, on some of the pertinent issues in advance of tonight’s game against Colorado…
(on the status of Simon Gagne’s “middle-body injury’’…)
MURRAY: “I don’t know exactly where he’s at (with the injury), other than he won’t play. I got a text from Kinger [trainer Chris Kingsley] this morning. He spoke with him, and it’s improving but he’s not ready to go.’’
(on whether he will stay with the lines he used in the third period last night…)
MURRAY: “I’ll go back to the way we started the game last night. Justin Williams is an important player on our team. He’s one of our more creative players. He’s a point producer, plays well with Kopitar. (Last night) was one of those games where, whenever a couple goals are scored against you, things were not happening. You get a little hesitant, caught in between as a line, so I felt I needed to make a change. We got some results off it last night, but that’s not long-term.’’
(on starting Jonathan Quick tonight, in back-to-back games…)
MURRAY: “His game is really good right now. From the very start, he’s seeing it, he’s giving us an opportunity to win. He made a couple big stops last night — a one-timer from (Shane) Doan, in particular, at the end of the game — so I’m just going to keep him playing right now.’’
MURRAY: “His game is really good right now. So if Quicks game is really good right now, is that the same logic TM is using for Penner tonight?

@Paules, Pretty sure a few of us were hoping TM would get canned in the off season for the same reasons people are bringing it up now. TM coaches this team like there’s no talent here still. Still trying not to lose, instead of using his weapons to attack and win. It’s a boring brand of mediocre hockey, and some of us want to see this group whipped up into the contenders they should be.

I will agree Kopi and Williams had off nights and I’m not so disappointed in them as most decisions Murray will make especially with Doughty, 7 million for the crap……..unreal
As far as Cliffy goes if he got half the chance some of these other guys are getting he would also be in the 5-10 point mark already this year………..if they don’t want to play him then trade him to Montreal, etc as he could easily play on thier 2nd line with his size and determination. If the following played with his heart the kings would be instantly better….Penner, Parse, Doughty, Martinez, and if Cliffy had a big contract he’d be playing, sad how that goes……watch these guys out there on the backcheck, wild

I find it funny Murray talks about how important it is to get Bernier in because he wants to show he has confidence in him. So what’s his logic when he drops Williams and Penner to the 4th line? Penner is never going to get his game going if you drop him every night Murrs, it’s your job to get him going and I really doubt dropping ice time is going to help that.
[Reply]
Where did this injury come from for Gagne? I didn’t see anything in the Dallas game. I know he is injury prone but eeesh! I never thought I’d find myself typing this, but I expect good things from Parse tonight. Our 2nd line looks good.

@OnTheFly, Yes…haha. Staying out of the box for starters, but I think he could net some assists and maybe even catch a lucky goal. I believe it due to being a winger for Richards. Your game automatically gets +5 skill. If Richards can make Penner look not as horrible, think of what it could do for Parse! lol

Dave Reply:
October 30th, 2011 at 1:42 pm
@TheCrazyWhls, I will say Parse was better last night besides that one penalty. that second line was probably the best line last night and Parse does look like he can hang on that line. he just needs to move his feet more and stop using his stick to hook and hold.
[Reply]
Another case of damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. He’s playing his #1 keeper for three games straight against confrerence foes and the villagers are up in arms. Sounds like he’s riding the hot keeper.
And it seems to me that he made this option available by playing Bernier against NJ. If Quick played against NJ, last night would have been how many straight games for him? It’s back to back (and I’d rather he didn’t play these), but travel from Phoenix to Colorado isn’t exactly a grueling trip.
IMHO, if Quick played poorly last night, Bernier would be in today.

You said you would play Bernier in this game, and you would’ve played Quick on Tuesday, but yet you keep arguing with yourself. The travel might not be much, but it’s alot more than going from LA to LA. TM is compounding his bad decision to sit Quick, by playing him tonight. 2 wrongs don’t make a right.

With these circumstances of the Kings played last night, a late flight to Denver, same lineup as last night. Now the Kings will have a certain amount of tiredness about them, and they’ll be playing in the mile-high air as well. IMO, I would’ve played Bernier just because of those reasons.
[Reply]
I’m clearly in the minority here but I like what TM is doing for tonight.
Quick was good last night and there is no reason he shouldn’t play. He had a night off two games ago so he should be fine.
I like that he’s going back to the lines he started with yesterday. Penner needs to play with Kopitar to get him going.
And Doughty wasn’t great last night but that’s just rust. He’ll get better every game.
Let’s not forget that the Kings were playing last night with a new lineup, without their 2nd line LW, Doughty’s first game back and they were down a goal going to the third and they still got a point. It was one of those games with bad bounces and Phoenix capitalizing on their few chances. Getting one point out of those types of games is a good thing – not the end of the world.
