Stoll postgame quotes (Oct. 30)

Jarret Stoll’s postgame thoughts…

(on needing more scoring…)
STOLL: “We’ve got to try to generate more. We got a lot of shots blocked in the second half of the game tonight. Teams, everyone is blocking shots, everyone is getting in lanes. We’ve got to find a way to work harder and get pucks to the net, make plays and figure out a way to just get the puck on net and score some ugly goals, get to those tough areas to score more goals. That’s the only way out of it. If you’re not going to do those things, it’s not going to happen. You can’t keep relying on your goaltender to give up one or get a shutout to win a game. We’ve got to be better in that area.’’

(on the weird goals and bounces…)
STOLL: “Yeah, it was kind of a weird game. There were a lot of things that could have been called, that weren’t, and a lot of things that, maybe there was some soft stuff out there. It was what it was. We just came up short tonight.’’

(on the 1-1-1 road trip…)
STOLL: “If we win this game in regulation, it’s a great trip. Now it’s an average trip. We should have had better out of tonight’s game.’’

i think if all of our losses this season look like this game, we’re going to be okay.

Bring Lotki up…move Lewis to a wing and get rid of either Moreau or Hunter. We need more scoring from the third and 4th lines.

@Stop the Puck, There is no question about that. Martinez has made great strides, and has done a nice job but Voynov isnt just a good player, he is a game changer, and has the ability to quarterback your powerplay.
I cant believe I am gonna say this, but there is a very good chance that Voynov might become better then Doughty and Johnson in the near future. I think this guy has unbelievable deceptive speed and always seems to be wide open on the powerplay. I also think he will shine even more playing with guys like Mitchell and Scuderi who will allow him to be himself and showcase his incredible hockey IQ.

    @puck73,
I’ve had the same thought about Voynov & DD.

I was going to write some other thoughts on DD’s play of late, but I’ll hold off until a bit later in the year. Needless to say, I’m not shopping for a DD jersey. On the other hand, I AM shopping for a new name on my #26 sweater.

@puck73, Voynov reminds me of Visnonsky… in a good way.

    luc20rules Reply:

@puck73, Believe me him being open on the PP is only part his hockey instincts, but mostly teams not having much respect for him yet. I remember DD getting those opportunities in his rookie year.

@Stop the Puck, agreed. voynov is legit and he makes the team better.

Moreau does the small things that make a difference. He is a good asset to our penalty kill.

@neil, No need to bring Lokti up really.. After Gagne heals up these are the lines I’d like to see:

    Gagne-Kopitar-Williams
    Parse-Richards-Brown
    Penner-Stoll-Richardson
    Clifford/Hunter-Lewis-Moreau/Westgarth

I was thinking about where to put Penner for a while. TM & friends should make an individual strategy for that 3rd line where they dump the puck in, then Richardson or Stoll (whoever gets there first) Goes into the corner to dig it up. Also, Stoll/Richardson is a backup guy, the “F3″ so he can help out the other guy in the corner and back up in case there’s a counter attack. “Where’s Penner?” you ask. In front of the net. He sits there screening the goaltender, so that once Stoll & Richie get the puck free they can play it to the point for the D-men to shoot or find a lane for themselves to get it on net. That should generate some scoring chances and since Penner isn’t really good at anything else than sitting on his ass being big, that’s where he’d be useful.

Players are not the problem. The system is. At some point (with some obvious exceptions), we should lay off the players now, because we have the talent. Talent is no longer this team’s issue.

I agree, if the system won’t change then you have to move players in the system to try and effect change. If it doesn’t work maybe the time down will do some good. Getting confidence etc, etc.

“You can’t keep relying on your goaltender to give up one or get a shutout to win a game. We’ve got to be better in that area” That’s what we’ve been saying Jarret. You guys must read the site.

“We’ve got to find a way to work harder and get pucks to the net”. You had 32 shots tonight, what you need are quality shots that lead to goals. Goals Jarret, not shots.

We need to take higher quality shots, specifically from the slot or close in on the net. Most of our shots tonight were from way outside or out on the point.

How about a “Get the opposing D out of position by moving without the puck, finding some creativity and movement, hit the seams, outnumber in front, and then SCORE mentality?”

    OCKINGin HB Reply:

    @kingszzz,
exactly what i was thinking during the game. Cant our boys create some shooting lanes or even move to a lane. its pretty obvious when they shoot to me and if i can tell then the entire other team can as well, fake a shot or two and make a pass or move three feet then shoot. Voynov s goals were beauties and so were the 2 tonight, but it seems that we try and forceit in at the crease more than anything….that just isnt going to score many goals.

It seems to me that Penner is the problem. Everyone else gives 100%. Parse looks good, but for his sitting in the box. It was an ok road trip. Penner is hurting this club. If your going to play fat/lazy people go ahead where do I sign. I could get off my Lazy boy and do as much as Penner has done. No more of this,”he did better tonight crap either. If any of you really think that Penner has helped us in any way please tell me. We have guys willing to give up their bodies for this team, yet there is Penner Just getting by. $ millions for what!!! I will not be happy until that dude is gone. Look I’m sorry. I love this club, but when I see someone who doesn’t play the game of hockey as it was meant to be played I get a little pissed off. As far as this game goes… give some props to the Aves. They really played a great game at home. They went all out for their home crowd, can’t blame a team for that. Some pucks go left, some right, it just didn’t go our way tonight. Well At least I have a new Rocky Mountain King fan to join the club. That makes two of us now. Oh and bring back Voynov!!!

I am a HUGE fan from Canada, have been since the Gretzky days. Mark my words, this team will never win a Stanley Cup under Terry Murray. He is a defensive minded coach and his system chokes out goal scoring. Until he is will ing to adapt his system and change a little, this team will never win a cup. Sorry to say, but that is the truth. We have the talent and goaltending, but simply can’t score enough goals to win enough close ones, like this one tonight. Thirty + shots should be enough. Shame on you TM.

  11. I’m encouraged by the Kings start thus far and they deserved a better fate tonight. However, team speed and scoring 5 on 5 still concern me as far as being considered an elite team. The defense is amazing and Quick is brilliant.

  12. What's the frequency, Kenneth? says:

Every time they win, it seems they’re outshot. Every time they lose, it seems they outshoot the other team.

I don’t think this is a coincidence. Perhaps they fling it on net when they’re not confident, and the poor result feeds the lack of confidence. When things are clicking, though, maybe they become a better puck possession team. I’m thinking “shot mentality” is exactly the wrong prescription for this offense.
