It hasn’t been a great start to the season for the Manchester Monarchs, the Kings’ American Hockey League affiliate. The Monarchs are 3-5-0 heading into tonight’s home game against Springfield. After a 3-1-0 start to the season, the Monarchs have lost four consecutive games. A team that has won with defense and goaltending has allowed a combined total of 19 goals in its last four games.
In goal, Martin Jones has been solid overall, with a 2.49 goals-against average and a 0.916 save percentage. Jeff Zatkoff has struggled with a 3.49 goals-against average and a 0.881 save percentage.
Scoring-wise, Andrei Loktionov leads the way with 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in eight games. Marc-Andre Cliche has a team-high four goals and is second on the team with six points. Justin Azevedo, David Meckler and Jake Muzzin each have three goals.
In a sampling of junior prospects…Tyler Toffoli has eight goals and 12 assists in 10 games for Ottawa (OHL). Jordan Weal has six goals and 11 assists in 12 games for Regina (WHL). Andy Andreoff has three goals and four assists in six games for Oshawa (OHL). Derek Forbort has one goal, one assists and a minus-2 rating in six games for the University of North Dakota. Chris Gibson has a 6-3-2 record, a 2.89 goals-against average and a 0.899 save percentage for Chicoutimi (QMJHL).
