Drew Doughty’s status for tomorrow’s game at Dallas is still up in the air, but regardless, Doughty’s return will be sooner rather than later. Doughty participated in a full practice today and after, when asked about the possibility of Doughty playing in Dallas, Terry Murray said, “I’ve got to talk to our medical staff and just get everything sorted out.’’ Doughty echoed that sentiment as he talked after practice today…
DOUGHTY: “I was cleared to practice with the team and cleared to get some contact in practice. I feel really good. I feel ready to play and almost back to normal. Now it’s just kind of in the hands of the training staff and the coaching staff to put me in.’’
Question: Is playing tomorrow a possibility?
DOUGHTY: “I hope so. I really want to play tomorrow, really badly. It sucks being out, obviously, but like I said I’m ready to play but at the same time, it’s really just in the training staff’s hands.’’
Question: A couple days ago, you mentioned the possibility of needing a couple full-contact practices before you felt comfortable. Are you OK with that now?
DOUGHTY: “I think it was important to get some contact in today. We had some 3-on-2 drills down low, where I could throw some cross-checks and use my body a little bit. Definitely a couple more practices would be helpful, but at the same time I feel ready to go and want to get in there and quick as I can.’’
hehe…
doughty is starting to talk like his coach…
i’m glad he’s feeling better…

If anything, maybe Drew’s tendency to make things happen on the offensive side of the game will lead to more scoring chances? So long as he isn’t afraid to get leveled coming across the blue line again….

@Klong, and people felt he would just start playing great without training camp to resharpen his skills. lack of training camp got him injured (because he hadn’t practiced keeping his head up at full speed with NHL regulars
). He owes the franchise at least a 10 days pay. and no i won’t get off this subject until he proves he is playing his best and the Kings team is benefitting from that play.

@SDGolfer, to some extent, yes. he was working out with the low skill, low ability younger hockey players who were not the threat that NHLers are and he got caught doing something in the NHL that he could get away with at the lower level. No matter how good you are you get better, and are better prepared, when you practice/play against better talent.
Well stop the press – DD is ready to play – just a heads up DD – the team is doing real well without you – it will be nice to have you back no question – but right about now that looks like a 56 mil lead ball the team got stuck with -

@dirtmover, Except if Quick wasn’t so sharp, we could have easily been 1-3 with DD out and then everybody would be appreciative of his talents. The guy is a stud, pure and simple. He makes everyone better.

dirtmover Reply:

@nykingfan, my point being – he should not be such a prima donna – no one player makes the team – the team is not better without him – but he should know it’s not all about him either – I’ve seen this hype with Lindros also – I’ve had a bad taste about this – no camp – not in shape – hold to squad hostage – you don’t see this from Kopi – who is a much more accomplished player – we the fans don’t need to hear you’re ready to play – get out there and show us what the team put all that scratch out there for -

@nykingfan, Now that is funny – Hey I’m glad he’s back – he should just be glad he doesn’t play at MSG – those press guys would carve him up – can you see the back of the post – 56 million $ bust – look how they did Redden -

@Deke’r,
Like I tried explaining earlier. I’m sorry if I wasn’t too clear. Feeling and knowing is two different things. It’s kind of like Mitchell’s concussion injury. Grant he wanted to play but he knew better and wanted to wait a little longer to heal and make sure he was ready.

@KingsGuy, he doesn’t have a signature hip check. Blake does. Stevens had his shoulder to the chin check. Scuderi even has a flip check, but DD doesn’t have a signature anything except on his inflated pay check.

@VanKingsFan, You would win your bet – DD is damaged goods ever since he got hurt last year. I would never sink a big long term contract on that type of player. Yes he has talent but this is a new day and age in NHL hockey and once a guy gets the damaged goods complex – well it’s rough after that. DD should not be rushed back to the line up.
I call it Sydney Syndrome. Speaking of which Crosby will be back around the all star break because Pitt knows they only need him to get in game shape for the playoff run. He has no reason to play now, just rest.
