@Jeff, it’s 1 bad game. I don’t think having Doughty in th lineup last night would have made any difference. The team came out flat and stayed that way for most of the game.
If anything it almost looked like since Quick wasn’t playing they didn’t have to give that extra effort to keep his streak going and showed up lazy instead.

@Kings Win, Ducks Lose, Unbelievable that people just don’t understand the aspect of hockey that is a “role.” You remember Miracle? How Herb Brooks chose the players that fit rather than the best players? Remember that? Voynov is not meant to be a scratch for 50 games a season. He has more talent and more upside than Drewiske. It’s not even close. So he needs to play the full season. A healthy scratch is the wrong place for him, now and in the future.

@Kings Win, Ducks Lose,
So but that’s the wrong move. You don’t give a depth forward to make room for what would end up being a 7/8 d-man. If DL is going to risk the waiver wire to keep Voynov up (which I don’t think he’s going to) he would most likely put DD2 out there. Wouldn’t bet on it though. Slava’s going back to Manchester.
[Reply]
Interesting Voynov still skating with Mitchell…lends a little bit of credence to my theory that he stays up.

To that end, quite an extensive 5-man, point-shot-deflection drill happening…

@wavesinair, Last night, one of the most effective things NJ did was have the third forward high along the boards to cut off our passes back to the point. They would pressure two men in the corners, which would cause our guys to push blindly back up to the point as is dictated thoroughly within this system, only to be picked off by that third forward.
Other teams scout the Kings and know this is the main option we go to, so having practices with point-shot-deflections seems kind of a waste of time, if they aren’t coming up with a way to get the point men available for passes or learning how to clear shooting lanes. Just a thought..

@wavesinair, With the way he has been playing I wouldn’t be surprised to see him stay. But on the waiver side of the story it makes since to send him down. I really think he has out played most of our d. He has had excellent positioning. He has really made a case for himself to stay up. The only guy I think playing better is JJ.

Mostly likely so. Usually though, if a player is cleared to go, TM puts him right in. Strange to see Voynov in the top pairing while DD is with Whiskey…all the while being cleared to play.

@wavesinair, A much more sinister notion would be:
DD – JMFJ
Mitchell – VV
Scuds – Green
With DD2 & AM on the pine.
Would have to drop a forward to the minors though.

There is a decision to be made. When DD comes off IR we will be +1 player. Either VV goes back down, A Defensive player is traded or we risk sending down another player and risk them to waivers. I am sure the first optition will be taken as unfair as it may be.

Most likely, they’re not confident that Doughty is going to play tomorrow, so they’re keeping Voynov in his current spot. Once Doughty goes in, Voynov goes back to Manchester (as he should, because he needs to keep playing and developing – not going to happen via sitting on the bench).

@nofreight,
I posted this earlier in another thread. I spoke to them this morning to find out how much it would cost to buy out my contract. I told them that myself and about 18,000 Kings fans would leave them and go to another provider if they drop FSW. They said that they were still working on it and the other provider had this same problem last year. My reply was that they get more than $100 from me each month, my favorite channel is FSW,and if I can’t get my favorite channel, I will go where I can get it. If you have DirectTV, the buyout is about $20 for each month left on your contract.I fgure that if I sign with another provider and get the special first year’s rates, the reduced monthly cost wil off-set the cancellation fee for DirectTV. I just don’t want the hassle so hopefully they get it done.

Last night I remarked several times that our d-corps really seemed to be missing a galvanizing #1 leader like Doughty. Say what you want, but Doughty is the best defenseman this team has and his offense AND defense was missed last night.

@aegwillnotwinthecup,
I wouldn’t go that far to say as a leader but rather an example to emulate. We did go through 3 games with our current dmen pairings without him.
[Reply]
First of all let me say that i waited over 12 hours to calm down from last night disaster to post here.
I do agree that with the way the team played last night it didn’t matter who was in net. Sloppy play by almost everyone, turning over pucks and forwards not coming back to help after our dmen pinch. WAY TOO MANY Out number attacks!
Now with that being said I truely feel with all my heart that we would have seen an entirely different team on the ice had JQ been in net going for his 4th straight SHUT-OUT.
I know that it’s only 1 game in a LONG season but the team looked FLAT and uninspired! Almost like their dog just died.
I still can’t believe that TM didn’t start JQ after 3 straight shut-outs!
I just hope that the boys can re-group and be ready for this road trip.
Now here’s the bigger problem,
Lack of offense. 3 goals in 3 games
no offense 5 on 5!
No chemistry on most of the lines.
Richards talents are being wasted playing with Penner& DB
thank god for JQ for carrying us so far this year!
Here’s the shocker! I’m usually blasting JJ but I have to give him his PROPS! He has really been playing great so far! And was one of the only Kings who looked good last night.
My fear is that after DL started to build the team the right way, and then after upgrading our TOP 6 and adding some key vet’s in the locker room during this off season i’m affraid that we don’t have the right coach here to get us to the next level!!!
I’m aware that it’s still early in the year but with all this talent and skill here now how do we still struggle to score?????

@ta, standard argumentative responses: “They just need to gel”. “Its still early in the season”. “They need more compete level”. “They need to play a whole 60 minutes”. “Penner sucks”. “Doughty will help out when he gets back”. “They just need to tighten up and play better defense”. “Quick should’ve started last night”. “They need more of a shot mentality”. “They need more net presence”.

@ta, I am not sure about the “all this talent” part. We have two top notch centers in Kopitar and Richards, and two true top 6 wingers in Gagne and Williams. Penner has shown less than nothing in a Kings uniform, and Brown simply does not have true top 6 offensive skills. Our top 6 is better than it has been in a long time – which isn’t saying much – but we still do not match up with the elite teams in the league as far as the top two lines go. Plus, our bottom 6 are very weak offensively, with only one – Stoll – having anything near 20 goal potential, and the others not likely to score even in double digits. We still have a ways to go in terms of offensive talent, and I am one who thinks that some kind of move needs to be made sometime in the not too distant future to bring in more firepower.

@Dominick, It’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll your starting goaltender. – Nah, that doesn’t work.
Drew Doughty’s back in black, because money talks. – Not perfect, but better.
Terry Murray shook up the team chemistry all night long! – I think that works.
I noticed the beginning lyrics of Black in Black sould like something Jonathan Quick would say to his teammates after being benched in last nights game by TM.
Back in black
I hit the sack
I’ve been too long I’m glad to be back
Yes I’m, let loose
From the noose
That’s kept me hanging about
If the Kings were playing at home it would work better because Quick would be wearing black instead of white, but I just thought it was interesting. The noose is obviously TM.
