Scouting the Devils

The status of Petr Sykora, expected to be New Jersey’s second-line left winger, is up in the air for tonight. The New Jersey Star-Ledger reported that Sykora missed today’s morning skate because of flu symptoms. If Sykora is unable to play, the Devils most likely would use defenseman Mark Fraser in a fourth-line role. The Devils are without goalie Martin Brodeur, who hurt his shoulder when the Kings visited Newark on Oct. 13, and they remain without center Travis Zajac. That has led the Devils to put Zach Parise at center, alongside Ilya Kovalchuk on a formidable first line. For the latest on the Devils, here are a couple stories from the Star-Ledger, followed by the expected lineups for the Kings and Devils as well as the Devils’ full roster…

Move from left wing to center was a surprise to Zach Parise

    @Dominick, “Clowns”? I guess you cuuld call Kovy that after the nonsense he pulled with us, but Parise is both a terrific player and a class act.

    @rick, Sorry, but tonight he’s a clown.

    @Dominick, Kovalsuck isn’t a clown, he’s a farmer. I see him picking cherries all the time. ;)

    @Dominick,

    Yeah, “Clown” is one thing I would never call Zach Parise, who is nothing but class.

    That is just not a scary lineup to me. I’ll let you figure out which lineup I mean. ;)

    CB14 Reply:

    @xeropoint, I’m guessing the one with 2 left wingers at center. Just a hunch.

    Play our 4th line a minimum of 9 minutes and we win this game…………

    Equal things out TM, by the way not playing Quick is a big mistake. This error would not be made in the 60′s, 70′s, or 80′s….wrong judgement call TM.

    @Harty, We have to give Bernier a chance. This is perfect night to give him a chance with this kind of lineup.

    Guess it’s a good thing we’re not playing in the 60′s, 70′s, or 80′s.

    @Harty, Is it still a big mistake if Bernier gets a well… or just a win period.

    Wow, there’s a good bet the Devils will be a bit discombobulated w/Parise at ctr. Now if maybe we could put a spy on Kovalschmuck, as he was hanging more than Gretz ever did when last we played.

    Go Kings

    Wow there’s a good chance we have a great team, and NJ needs to be worried and not us. Just saying… how about a little faith in our team.

    CB14 Reply:

    @jenny, Everyone has faith in our team. Just because we don’t agree with a coaches decision doesn’t mean we don’t have faith in our team. I’ve been 100% against the goalie decision, but that’s not saying I don’t like Bernier. He’s the best back-up goalie in the league IMO, and I have full trust in him playing well tonight. If tonight’s game were the second half of a back to back, I would be in favor of Quick getting a rest. But it’s not, and i’m not.

    jenny Reply:

    @CB14, Well I don’t care who’s in goal tonight we’re going to win period. Conference games are far more important then East coast match ups any day of the week. I think TM made a good call and after the game when were 6-1-1 I hope the rest of our fans feel the same.

    CB14 Reply:

    @jenny, Once again, why couldn’t Quick play tonight, Thursday, and Saturday? He just had 2 days off and will have days off in between each of the next 2 games, so what’s the problem with playing Quick the next 3 games? No one has been able to explain that to me. If the Kings were playing Dallas tomorrow night, I would be fine with playing Quick against the divisional opponent, but we’re not, and therefore Quick should be playing tonight.

    Holy BUCKETS! Winless Columbus beat Detroit tonight, 4-1??!? The world turned upside down. Just goes to show… on any given night, etc.
