Scouting the Devils

The status of Petr Sykora, expected to be New Jersey’s second-line left winger, is up in the air for tonight. The New Jersey Star-Ledger reported that Sykora missed today’s morning skate because of flu symptoms. If Sykora is unable to play, the Devils most likely would use defenseman Mark Fraser in a fourth-line role. The Devils are without goalie Martin Brodeur, who hurt his shoulder when the Kings visited Newark on Oct. 13, and they remain without center Travis Zajac. That has led the Devils to put Zach Parise at center, alongside Ilya Kovalchuk on a formidable first line.
