Greene postgame quotes (Oct. 25)

Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
GREENE: “With their style, they’re going to capitalize. When you turn pucks over, they’re going to jump with four players every time and outnumber you, with those outnumbered attacks coming back on you. That’s what they did tonight and we didn’t have an answer tonight. We have to be better.’’

(on the upcoming road trip…)
GREENE: “It’s huge. Two divisional games, but Colorado is playing well too. These Western Conference games, we’ve got to clean up points here. Especially against the division, but anyone in the conference, you always want to get points and not give them any. This road trip is huge for us.’’

    @puck73,

    Missed the first two periods I’m happy to say. Did see the highlights of the goals scored.
    Looked like NJ really worked at stopping Kopi. A triangle around him as he hit the offensive blue line cutting him and his passing lanes off completely.

    Bernier didn’t play badly but NJ controlled the neutral zone forcing the Kings to back in at times. The Devils were just better.

    @Crown Royal, maybe it was their D but AK didn’t handle the puck well tonight, neither did JW for that matter… just couldn’t corral it last night.

    Matt, explain your attempt to skate through the neutral zone during a change…

    @cjms,

    Under pressure with his head down. It happened before. It will happen again.

    Kings were outnumbered around the puck all night long including when Kings were on power play. I guess our coach had no answer.

    I thought Greener actually had a decent night. Laid a few hits down and played positionally well. The forwards were the issue tonight IMO. I believe his trip through the neutral zone was to get the puck deep for a change. I don’t think he had anyone to pass it to. I might not be thinking of the same thing you are, but I do remember Greener carrying the puck through the neutral on a change at least once tonight.

    I hope we’re ready for this roadie. Real big matchups with the way the West is right now.

    Forwards not supporting and getting caught up ice seemed to cause a lot of the issues, but this seems to be some of the growing pains I was expecting as we get away from so much dump- and- chase hockey… Carrying the puck thru the neutral zone and maintaining possession is preferred,but the cost of a turnover is having the puck come right back in your grill. NOT saying I’m ready to return to throwing it deep as soon as we gain the blue line, I’m just ready to allow that learning curve early in the season. This won’t be acceptable in February, for instance.
