Jack Johnson’s postgame thoughts…
(on his game-winning goal…)
JOHNSON: “We had talked about it beforehand. Richards had said how he wanted to win it back. It was a set-up play that worked out. … Scuderi, if it was a clean enough (faceoff) win, he was going to slide it over to me and try to set me up for a one-timer. We had tried to set that up all game, and usually they’re scrambled plays, but fortunately that one was a clean play and a great play by everyone, really.’’
(on his third game-winning goal of the season…)
JOHNSON: “Better to be lucky than good.’’
(on staying patient despite the Stars’ shot-blocking ability…)
JOHNSON: “We kind of knew that coming in, that they were going to block a lot of shots, so you can’t get frustrated. You just have to keep firing, and hopefully fire high and hard enough so that they’re not going to want to keep blocking them. But we knew that going in, so it wasn’t a surprise and we didn’t get real frustrated with it at all, I don’t think. We stayed even-keel throughout the game, so I don’t think that was really an issue. You obviously prefer that they don’t block them, but that’s life.’’

Ready, aim (for the spot above the logo on the opposing jersey), fire. I don’t think everyone is going to put their face in front of every shot but those that do will be picking up their false teeth off the ice. Only one person really needs to put a face in front of every shot and he gets a full mask to do it with.

@Mesquite Smokie, LOL, I like how he thinks, you know what I’m just going to make it hurt if you’re going to block it.

Great game, Jack. Good outlet passes, solid defense…. you’ve really stepped it up this season. It’s so great to see you becoming one of the premier defensemen in the league. And three game winning goals… you’re on fire.
Congrats!

That’s no robot…..it’s Johnathan M F’ing Quick!! LOL
On the replay, notice all the D turning away from the shot? They knew JJ was gunning high, then flutter puck dropped right into the cage. Beautiful. Way to condition them to fear your shot Jack!!

This game could have gone either way. Looked like Raycroft just barely missed the puck with his blocker and the puck snuck in. The Stars hit a post and were an inch or two off. An inch for the Stars and an inch less for the Kings and the Stars win (probably).

I’m proud of Jack. I’m one of those who has been concerned about getting balanced play out of him, and what seems most astonishing to me isn’t his ability to score, but that he’s playing more steadily, letting the game come to him, and playing with a lot of confidence. This is the Jack Johnson I was hoping to see, and it’s great that he’s a bit humble about his success, as I wouldn’t want him to think he’s reached some sort of plateau now.

@letswinthecup2011, That is a huge understatement, but I’ve noticed Scudes looking better than ever this year. Right now JJ/Scudes are our top 2 defenders. Mitchell and DD are going to have to play catch up.

Jack Johnson is obviously playing better this season early on. That being said, I certainly will not apologize for ripping him and his minus 78 in his first 4 seasons. I have always said that this guy has way too much speed and skill to put up deplorable numbers like that.
Who knows, maybe this is the season that he lets the game come to him, and start showing the world what crazy talent he has always had.

@puck73, Makes me think the controversial comments DL has made were actually pretty accurate. It looks like he’s making up for lost time in the discipline department.

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, My take exactly and pretty much what Scudes said in his interview after the game. To Patrick’s credit he asked Scudes directly and Scudes said this year JJ is not trying to force the big play every shift every time he handles the puck. DL was dead on with his comments imho.

I have never heard someone admit to trying to intimidate the other team with high, hard shots. But you can definitely see Ott duck out of the way on the goal. I guess not everyone is Matty Norstrom. Some guys will roll the dice to avoid being in the dental chair.

@Ian, The little game within the game … if you heard the JJ’s interview he said ” I was kind of hoping that a high hard one would hurt someone (Ott) … long pause … if they tried to block it … big smile. That center he was talking about was Ott … the guy that MR fought in the first period. MR took Ott out of his comfort zone with that fight and JJ was head hunting with his shot … block it and your down, don’t block it, might go in … and it did.

I’m just glad to see JJ play the way he has lately. Yeah it sucks that DD is usually hurt or otherwise out when JJ takes charge but I’m glad to be seeing a different player: the one who terrified other players in that Michigan jersey and the one with the fire under his backside in that Team USA jersey, not the one who gets noticed for all the wrong reasons.
