Friday practice update; Doughty skating

Drew Doughty came onto the ice at the end of practice and is now going through conditioning skating and some light passing drills under the instruction of assistant coach John Stevens. Terry Murray said Doughty also skated yesterday but Murray said he hadn’t received an update on Doughty’s condition from the training staff. Doughty is not eligible to return from injured reserve until Tuesday at the earliest.

In what might be the most obvious answer ever, Murray said that Jonathan Quick will start in goal tomorrow against Dallas. More notes and quotes from practice to come…

    Andrew Reply:

    @Kings x, Yea but it is ok he is young still! I heard the Monarchs need a puck moving Dman now that VV is up here.

    Dominick Reply:

    @Stuart, I heard he’s the same age as Voynov, and even better.

    I dont want to get ahead of myself, but what is the record for longest period of time between goals, by a goalie.

    [Reply]

    ponch0v Reply:

    @Ryan, From Helene Elliot on Twitter:

    “Kings G Jonathan Quick has shutout streak of 128:10, including blankings of Blues, Yotes. No King has ever had shutouts in 3 straight games

    That from the Kings’ tireless Jeremy Zager. Who also says longest scoreless streak in Kings history is 184:55 by Vachon, in 1975″

    @Kings x,

    Yes, my quoting another person who’s citing the Kings’ communications manager’s research is a jinx…

    DesertKing Reply:

    @ponch0v,

    Did they include OT in that number? That would be more than 3 games so it must include OT.

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

    @DesertKing, it probably started in the 2nd period of the first game, and then full games… consecutive minutes doesn’t necessarily mean starting with the beginning of a game…maybe.

    trytodethroneus Reply:

    @DesertKing,

    Didn’t have OT back then (1975) KINGS had 21 ties in 1974-1975

    Stuart Reply:

    @trytodethroneus, i believe they did. just no shoot-out, straight to kissing your sister status (that’s what a tie is like, so they say).

    Andrew Reply:

    @Ryan, : Alec Connell, 461 minutes, 29 seconds (1927–28). Might be tough to beat.

    Andrew Reply:

    @Andrew, LOL. I’m thinking we could have a lot of fun with this dual Andrew thing. :)

    prosmar Reply:

    @Ryan, Longest shutout sequence by a goaltender: Alec Connell, 461 minutes, 29 seconds (1927–28)

    [Reply]

    DanD Reply:

    @Ryan, The longest MODERN day shutout streak belongs to Brian Boucher. When he played for the Phoenix Coyotes in 2003 he recorded a shutout streak that started on December 27, 2003, lasting 332 minutes and 1 second, spanning 5 games and ending in 2004. 5 straight shutouts. That’s just insane!

    keep it going Quicker. You the man! Its going to take a lot for this guy to be recognized nationally. Thats not necessarily a bad thing.

    [Reply]

    rumpa#19 Reply:

    @tornado12, Actually Scott Laughlin did a interveiw with Quick today on XM home ice. He introduced him as “posibly the best goaltender in the NHL”. It was shocking to here from a show brodcast out of Toro.

    @OI!, they’re playing pretty good, but it will be tough for them after the Duck’s game. Ducks are a ruff team to play against these days.

  7. Zagiful says:

    Drew who? I vaguely remember NHLn talking about this guy during some holdout in the offseason. how he’d get hurt early in the season because he was missing something called “training camp” while he was playing with teenagers in Canadia. I guess my memory bells will ring when i see 7 million dollars worth of production from this….Drew person…

  10. BobsYourUncle says:

    I hate to see Bernier sitting quietly on the side lines but no one can deny that Quick deserves the start as he has been stellar in net so far this season. I’d say keep playing Quick until he losses and then give Bernier the same opportunity. Like Murray sad, play the hot hand… Go Kings!!!

    [Reply]

    Jay GoLAKings Reply:

    @BobsYourUncle,
    What about “back to backs”, what would you do?

    I would start JB

    [Reply]

    goldielocks Reply:

    @BobsYourUncle,

    I wouldn’t mind putting Bernier between the pipes for Devils’ game.

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @goldielocks, I’ll bet he goes up against Colorado. They’ve gave us a tough go last season, and it’s a back to back. Quick did well against the Hyenas last night, and Murray will probably try to exploit that, with Bernier getting the next start.

    [Reply]

    goldielocks Reply:

    @Dominick,

    I wouldn’t mind that, too.

    rumpa#19 Reply:

    @Dominick, If the team defence keeps playing this well either goalie could play for stretches.

  11. Dominick says:

    Cool! Slava gets 1 more game with the big boys. Ha ha ha.

    This team is gonna rock this year.

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

    @Dominick, you’re call an activation on Tuesday and then in the line-up that night? I don’t know if they rush it, but we’ll see.

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @Stuart, They wouldn’t activate him then wait 2 days.

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

    @Dominick, but they also don’t HAVE to activate on the 7th day either, right? That’s just the earliest that he CAN be activated…me thought.

    Andrew Reply:

    @Stuart, I think they will keep him on the IR for closer to ten days then seven. Also I need a new name D:
