Friday practice; no changes

No surprises or changes based on the way the Kings are skating in practice today. Drew Doughty is not on the ice, but that’s not a big surprise given that Doughty can’t play until Tuesday at the earliest and isn’t yet in the 7-to-10 day timeframe for his return. Hopefully there will be an update after practice…

    Funny how the very next post jumps headlong into dramaville! (and coincidentally on a topic you yourself have an opinion on!)

    hehehe…i think i’ll just talk to you (or anyone else for that matter) right – HERE – about that…however, my opinion on that subject is very contingent on a couple of big factors, one being other teams around the league upping the ante for his services…it’s that “offer you can’t refuse” moment that becomes more likely as the season progresses…
    like i said to you before: it’s not very likely to happen at all, but if things continue to progress, someone out there might be willing to pay more than they should…

    but we both knew it was just a matter of time anyway before the subject got reignited…

    How about trading Bernier since JQ has clearly solidified himself as the starter? Giver Bernier a chance to be a starter elsewhere and bring in some draft picks or depth guys.

    [Reply]

    shorthanded Reply:

    @Scaught, Maybe do that next year, but this year no way! What if Quick goes down? We have the best goalie tamdem in the league and with a low cap hit. Besides Dean said he is done with collecting picks.

    We have tons of depth too. I dont think this team needs anything and IMO is a top contender for the cup.

    [Reply]

    Michael_DD8 Reply:

    @Scaught,

    As much as Bernier is expendable with how awesome JQ has been, just like shorthanded said, we have the best tandem in the league, and on any given night that JQ might not be the man, its nice to know we got Bernier. Now…if we have a disappointing season, as we all know what that would be, i think Bernie could be the exit guy for the solution…?

    [Reply]

    KingsGuy Reply:

    @shorthanded, I agree we have a great lineup. I think if we had one more additional bonafide scorer…

    @Klong, Lmao I can’t believe I made the same mistake twice and didn’t catch it. Yes he would be a force, drive to the net and score then ask the goalie what went wrong.

    Andrew Reply:

    @Andrew, Rick Nash* haha

    Dominick Reply:

    @Scaught, Is having 2 great goalies not enough depth for you?

    [Reply]

    Scaught Reply:

    @Dominick, Sure it is. But I would like to see Bernier get his chance and Quick get the endorsement. However, it doesn’t have to be imminent. Just curious what teams who need goaltending are willing to offer.

    [Reply]

    Scaught Reply:

    “The people in charge know what they’re doing.” Well, they’re looking smart, lately. Cloutier and Crawford wouldn’t lend credence to that notion.

    IMO, it’d be worth it to see what a team is willing to offer for Bernier without feeling pressured to pull it off. And as long as JB isn’t complaining about backing up, all is well for the time being.

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @Scaught, Bernier wouldn’t this year. He has to believe this team will go all the way. Would you have bailed on Edmonton during their dynasty years. He’ll get a chance to play, and he’s an important part if this team. He’s not going to give that up right now.

    Also, Nobody can offer Lombardi enough till we win a cup, to make him give up his depth in goal. That, in his mind, is the strongest position needed to build your team, and the foundation that he established first. He has always shown a propensity to not want to get rid of his goaltenders, and he won’t start now on the eve of a team he feels is built to win the Cup.

    Adamic39 Reply:

    @Dominick, Why is that such a difficult thing for people to understand? Why are people so eager to trade away the best we’ve ever had. (quick or bernier)

    Dominick Reply:

    @Adamic39,
    That is what is so surprising. Not only is that one of DL’s pet peeves (building from the goalies out), but everybody assumes that we’re only allowed to have one #1 goalie. It’s not like Quick, or Bernier has ever even hinted that they’d leave if their not #1.

    Kings x Reply:

    @Dominick, it’s all conjecture until they both are in contract years and then it comes down to the salary cap. come on guys, what do you need a refresher course? – I.M. Fletcher

    I noticed Martinez got 12 minutes of pt and Voynov got 19 or so minutes. Greene even got 19.. I wonder if Martinez is playing himself out of the lineup again..he seems to be doing well but Murray must be seeing something he doesn’t like???

    [Reply]

    Andrew Reply:

    @clubaclub, I liked how he jumped into the play alot, I don’t think it was that, Its just VV was on a higher pairing and Greene is on our PK which had some time last night. So that takes away from some of his minutes most likely. Or I have no clue what I’m saying lol

    [Reply]

    Andrew Reply:

    @clubaclub, Also VV is on our number 1 pp atm so that gives him a bit more minutes.

    @clubaclub, AM did have a nice 2-1 rush with MR going in the 3rd(?) I think it was… nice read.

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @Stuart, Smith also had to make an incredible save on AM on a 1 timer in tight, and AM had some great stretch passes connect. Not a single King did anything to be critisized over the last 2 games.

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

    @Dominick, strange times we live in when a player that is playing as good as AM is talked about as “playing himself out of a job”.

    Andrew Reply:

    @Stuart, Yeah I was confused why he started skating backwards thou. Can someone explain that too me?

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

    @Andrew, he was opening up for the one-time feed…he was putting some distance between him and MR so the pass wouldn’t have to be so in close/tight and opened up his backswing, but the pass never came.

    bobknob Reply:

    @Andrew,
    he was getting too deep and wanted to give Mr a nice juicy lane to pass into. It “opens you up” a bit.

    Be still my heart. No changes? Has TM become sane? Has he come to the realization that stabilzation is important to chemistry? Could it be that he has achieved the utlimate nirvana of a coach, 3 really good lines and a fourth that can score once in awhile? Nah, I think someone has been putting something in his coffee. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it and GKG!!

  7. Dominick says:

    Cmon people! I know there are some great players out there, but the Kings have the team they want right now. There isn’t a pundit anywhere who says the Kings have holes that need to be filled in their top 6, or top 6 D. In fact Jim Fox (who knows a little something about the Kings) says this is the deepest Kings team he has ever seen. Since the Pre-season even started Kingsfans have been wanting to waive this guy, and trade that guy.

    It’s not going to happen. Also no team in their right mind is going to give up anything of value with less than 10 games even played. I doubt they will 41 games in. So just forget it.

    No need to trade Bernier this year. JQ will get tired and need a break, or he’ll burn out. If he keeps this pace up he’ll break the 40 win mark easily.
    What needs to happen is the continuing success of the defence and the backchek of the 3rd forward. Having three good two-way centermen is going to be the success of this team. If Lewis can get his skates under him like he did at the end of last season, the Kings will be even better as the season progresses.

    Hey Rich, Can you fill me in on the protocol of announcers correcting each others mistakes? Especially continuing errors. Seemed Bob couldn’t stop calling Yote’s goalie by the wrong name and Jim was trying to help him out a bit. I really thought Jim was doing a great job in subtly giving his partner a hand, but for awhile there it was a little uncomfortable to listen to, especially given the Hall-of Famer I’m talking about. Just wondering.

    [Reply]

    wavesinair Reply:

    @red49er, I could be wrong, but I believe the producers help Bob and Jim in their ear pieces with corrections. I don’t think it’s Jim’s job to correct Bob though. He has enough to worry about doing his own analysis.

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @red49er, Bob’s just getting up there in years, and you have to let him do it as long as possible, because there may come a day when we don’t have him to do it. Then we’ll look back on these days and consider ourselves lucky to have been here for all those little mistakes. These are the greatest Miller moments you’ll remember 20 years from now, and I hope we can win a Cup for him soon.

    I remember listening to Chick hearn call everyone and their mother Worthy, and then a few years later everyone else and their fathers became Horry… its really not that big of a deal, remember who you’re listening and the fact that he’s been doing this since many of us were in diapers or still swimming with tails and you’ll appreciate what we got going for us. Hell, Bob can call every jersey on the ice Brown and I’d still enjoy him for the million other things he does right!

    Everyone should show a little respect! I thought it was hilarious, especially when DB shot and MB saved it… it was kind of like watching Bugs Bunny playing the BronxBombers…
