Morning skate explanation, pictures

As noted earlier, the Kings had an optional morning skate, which is nothing groundbreaking for a road game. Typically, after the turn of the calendar, Terry Murray goes with optional skates, although all players are still required to report to the rink and do off-ice work. Here are Murray’s thoughts on the skate, followed by a quick set of photos from this morning at Jobing.com Arena…

MURRAY: “It’s more because of the awareness to the long trip. I just want to make sure we’re fully recovered, coming back here, before asking too much from the guys. I’ll get back to full morning skates, maybe at the end of this month, and then start to back off again around the end of December. Jan. 1 is usually a time when I start to go that other route again. It’s just to get as much rest as possible right now.’’

Quick question: When the Kings practice in the away’s team arena, is it open to the public like TSC?

@variable, it usually does in DAL and even at Staples.

@Stuart, but then again, maybe the humidity plays into the bad ice in the examples I gave…

@Trip, I’d play Bernier tonight, Phx is going to be towards the bottom of the West this year, if you can’t start him now, then when? It would be an early “step-up” challange for Bernier, would be very interesting to see how he played. Nothing wrong with Quick getting 62 starts, this should be one of Bernier’s 20. That said, I expect coming off a SO Quick will start and of course he’ll be in Sat as well at home vs a tougher divisional foe (Dallas).

@Press Box Scratch, Doesn’t matter where they end up, divisional games are the most important, and TM should be starting his best goalie. The Kings can help put them at the bottom by taking 12 points from them this season, starting tonight. Quick is the man for the job. Besides, what kind of message would it send to bench your goalie after a shut out?!

Thats one of the reasons Kopitar is as good as he is, even on the optional skate days he’s still out there doing his thing. Sets a good example for the younger players.

Wow! Intense look for an optional skate. That last picture looked like it was taken during game time at the Jobing Arena.
