Doughty to get back on ice

The Kings left Wednesday afternoon for their one-game road trip to Phoenix without defenseman Drew Doughty, who is on injured reserve and will miss a second consecutive game. Doughty will not be able to return until Tuesday’s game against New Jersey at the earliest, and Murray said Doughty (upper-body injury) will do some conditioning skating Thursday in El Segundo, but otherwise Murray said he didn’t have an update on Doughty’s status.

MURRAY: “Not really. I talked to him yesterday afternoon, and he felt much better yesterday afternoon than he did the day before, and that’s a positive. He will stay here and work out and he will get on the ice on his own and kind of work through the therapy and the treatments that are prescribed by (trainer) Chris Kingsley. It’s getting better. As the days go by, it will improve with each one of them.’’

    @KC23, Unless he is skating laterally in the other teams d-zone and gets drilled.lol.

    No need to rush…Still early in the season, plus Voynov deserves some ice team in the Big League

    @Harry,

    Sorry, not going keep Drew out of the line up just to get Voynov more ice time.

    When he gets healthy and playing his game the Kings are going to be scary!!

    @KOHO, Totally agree. And you know with the high hockey IQ that this guy has, it wont take him long how to figure out chemistry with players like Richards and Gagne.

    @puck73, Yeah, I’m thinking our hockey IQ is our most dangerous weapon right now. Gagne, Kopitar, Williams, Richards and Doughty all have absurd hockey IQ.

    @puck73, Look how quickly JJ and Richards have clicked. Once Richards gets DD going (and vice versa) thats gonna be an amazing power-play.

    When he is on and same goes for JMFJ, with our top 2 lines…its like playing with 4 solid fowards, and if last nights game is any indication with the agressive backchecking displayed, 5 solid dmen….the other teams will be in for some fun.

    Dominick Reply:

    @THEFL, Very solid effort by our big 3 center iceman on the back check. Richards actually lost it, and took it back before St.louis could even get to center ice. Stoll broke up at least 4 or 5 nuetral zone plyas through the middle, and Kopi…….Well Kopi’s just Kopi. lol

    Being someone who has harped on JJ’s plus/minus in the past it is only fair for me to also bring up when it starts improving. Plus 3 and counting and all signs point to JJ going no where but positive. JJ looks on another level this year to me. Not the same guy.

    CGY puts Raitis Ivanans on waivers. MIN puts Drew Bagnall on waivers.

    Lets swap Voynov for Greene for some games kinda like he swaps out westgarth for whoever.

    AZ King Reply:

    @Hat trick,

    That could work on the nights we play an especially speedy team. That’s when Greene gets exposed the most. Greene and Voynov are very different players though, so I think there would be a noticable difference. ThatKs where it’s nice ahving DD2 around he can fill in for the stay at home guys much easier.

    The injury must not be too serious if the therapy and treatment is coming from the trainer and not the doctor, which I consider to be very good news.

    I was thinking something got bruised (ribs, sternum, etc.), or a jammed shoulder.

    @DesertKing,

    Hey, during the “holdout” everyone was accusing Dewey of getting a doughnut stuck in his mouth, so the attitude around here has improved dramatically!

    Bkrs-Bud Reply:

    @Kingsfanone, I noticed that also.

    @DesertKing, Drew has never been known as the toughest guy in the room. Its probably a bruised rib that he’s waiting for the color to go away before risking further injury. Just needs someone, not a doctor, to hold the mirror for him so he can be sure.

    I think this may be a blessing in disguise because it’ll allow him an extra week to ten days to condition a little more, get some practices in with the team, something that was lost during the holdout.
