Murray postgame quotes (Oct. 8)

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on the Sabres’ strong start…)
MURRAY: “They’re a very skilled, speed team. That’s the same kind of a game that we saw them play (Friday) night, that I watched on the replay of their Anaheim game. They come at you with skill, with speed and they’re a solid group. On their back end they’ve got a real good defense corps and Miller obviously cleans up anything else. So we were prepared for that kind of energy and that kind of intensity from them. We got through the first period. We had our looks. The second period, I thought we stopped following up with the same things that we were doing. They started pulling pucks off the boards. The goals that they scored, we were too far off our men. You give those skill guys that extra five, seven, eight feet, they’re going to make some plays and they’re going to score some goals. I think it was more about us. We have to get back and start to compete hard.’’

(on the Kings’ lack of consistent attack…)
MURRAY: “Once you get down, that’s what happens. That’s what happens with, I don’t want to say a young group of guys, because I want to get by saying that, but that’s what happens when you get down by three goals. You think you can do it by yourself and you start getting spread out and you start looking for those long home-run plays. Very seldom do they work. That’s something we have to take out of this game, is that you need to come back down, you need to work together as four or five, coming up the ice and making plays.’’

(on splitting the trip in Europe…)
MURRAY: “Well, we got two points out of the four. That’s important. You’re trying to put points on the board. You wish there were better results, better decisions made in this game, where you’re going to compete in the right places, at the right times, and not give up those goals that we gave up. That’s where we need to get back to work.’’
