Kings, Monarchs both celebrate

Friday was a successful day in the Kings organization, as the NHL club won it season opener against the New York Rangers while, a few hours later and a few time zones away, the AHL’s Manchester Monarchs opened their season with a 5-2 victory over Springfield. Marc-Andre Cliche had a hat trick as the Monarchs led 5-0 after two periods. Justin Azevedo and David Meckler also scored goals. Andrei Loktionov had three assists and Patrick Mullen had two assists. Martin Jones stopped 23 of 25 shots.
