Game 1: Kings 3, Rangers 2 (FINAL, OT)

THIRD PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Lundqvist.
Rangers 2, Kings 1: The Rangers took the lead with 9:32 remaining in the third period. Quick made a save but the Kings couldn’t control the rebound. In tight, Brandon Dubinsky pushed the puck to Marian Gaborik, who lifted the puck into the net. Brad Richards also got an assist.
Kings 2, Rangers 2: Mike Richards’ first goal as a King tied the game 2-2 with 4:59 remaining in the third period. Brad Richardson took the puck wide left, then fired it to the front of the net. Richards stuck out his stick and deflected the puck past Lundqvist. Dustin Brown also got an assist.
End of regulation: The Kings had a power play in the final two minutes put couldn’t score. In regulation, shots were 27-25 in favor of the Kings, who went 0-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.

OVERTIME
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Lundqvist.
Kings 3, Rangers 2: Jack Johnson scored on a rebound, on the power play, with 52 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Kings the win.

SECOND PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Lundqvist.
End of period: Shots were 8-6 in favor of the Rangers in the scoreless period, and both teams went 0-for-1 on the power play. The Rangers had the better of the chances for the first 12 minutes, but the Kings came on strong late and had a 3-on-1 break but couldn’t get a shot on goal.

FIRST PERIOD
In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Quick against the Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist.
Kings 1, Rangers 0: After two failed power plays, the Kings took the lead with 9:09 remaining in the first period. After a Rangers turnover at their blue line, Justin Williams pick up the puck and fed Anze Kopitar, who scored on a one-timer from the middle of the right circle.
Kings 1, Rangers 1: The Rangers didn’t record their first shot on goal until 4:44 remained in the first period, and they tied the game on a rebound of that shot. Ryan Callahan took a pass and, from a sharp angle at the goal line, shot. The puck deflected off Quick and into the net to tie the game with 4:38 remaining.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Rangers 13-4 and carried the game for much of the period, although the Rangers seemed to find their legs after their goal. Lundqvist made a brilliant glove save on Dustin Brown’s shot in the final minute. The Kings were 0-for-2 on the power play and didn’t face a penalty kill. As expected, the crowd is heavily pro-Rangers.
