The player who found himself unwittingly a part of an international NHL incident made his first public appearance in Los Angeles today. Colin Fraser, and his famously injured right foot, walked without a limp in Staples Center, but it remains unknown when Fraser might be able to participate in training camp. Fraser joined the Kings [...]
Players talk about Doughty absence
As noted earlier, among the Kings’ NHL veterans, the only player missing at Hockey Fest today was Drew Doughty. How do some of the other players feel about that? Team captain Dustin Brown and alternate captain Anze Kopitar were asked today about Doughty’s contract statues. (Incidentally, there will be an item later on Kopitar’s summer [...]
Lombardi update on Doughty
Here at Hockey Fest, Bob Miller just finished introducing the Kings team to the 3,000 fans in attendance. Well, most of the team. As expected, Drew Doughty was not in attendance. No players are compelled to attend events before the start of training camp, and while the rest of the Kings players were at Staples [...]
Hockey Fest on horizon
First, a look back to yesterday. I did end up taking some photos at the second part of the rookie-camp session, but reader and longtime blog supporter Chasen took some better photos! So, because his work deserves some showcasing, here’s the link to the pictures… Sept. 10 rookie-camp photos I’m heading out to Hockey Fest. [...]

That day impacted the Kings, as director of pro scouting Ace Bailey and amateur scout Mark Bavis were aboard one of the planes that crashed [...]
Morning reading: camp preparation
With the start of training camp right around the corner, what’s on the mind of coaches? What will be stressed early in camp? Who will play together? Will there be any changes this season? Terry Murray and staff have been mulling these questions, and many others, practically since the end of Game 6 in April. [...]

Strength coach moves on
Kings strength and conditioning coach Tim Adams has left his position to “pursue other opportunities,” the team said today. Adams, hired in 2009, was regularly praised by players, coaches and staff members for his off-ice work with the players, including extensive work during the summer. A replacement has not yet been named.

The Kings announced this morning that the Hockey Fest event, to be held Sunday at Staples Center, is sold out. But for those who didn’t get tickets, or those outside of Southern California, a couple of the day’s notable events will be streamed live on LAKings.com. You’ll be able to watch the “State of the [...]
More memories of Demitra, crash victims
Thanks to everyone who has shared their thoughts and memories on the passing of former Kings winger Pavol Demitra, as well as all of those who lost their lives in today’s plane crash in Russia. Because of his relatively short time with the Kings, I didn’t have a deep relationship with Demitra, but I will [...]
Former Kings feared lost in crash
A plane carrying the KHL team, Yaroslavl Lokomotiv, crashed today in Russia with players and staff en route to their season opener. According to initial reports, there were two survivors among the 43 people on board, but feared dead in the crash are former Kings forwards Pavol Demitra (above left) and Jan Marek (right). Demitra’s [...]

Players can’t wait to skate
We’re still 11 days away from the official on-ice start to Kings training camp, but there’s plenty of activity already at the practice facility in El Segundo. A good portion of the veteran players have arrived and are going through daily off-ice workouts as well as some unofficial practice. That includes two players, Anze Kopitar [...]
Getting out on the floor
On Wednesday, the bulk of the work was done to paint the floor at Staples Center in preparation for the 2011-12 Kings season. Newest Kings forward Ethan Moreau was on hand as well, and here’s a video look at how the day went…
Miller to return (and stay busy)
As many of you probably read today, Bob Miller confirmed to the L.A. Times that he will be staying with the Kings for at least two more seasons (along with Jim Fox, who had previously signed a multi-year contract). That’s great news for everyone, including myself, since spending time with them on the road is [...]
