There’s good news for forward Trent Hunter, who signed a one-year contract with the Kings today. Hunter, coming off major knee surgery, came to camp on a pro-tryout agreement but has performed well and will be in the lineup again tonight.
[UPDATE:] Hunter’s contract is for $600,000.
Congrats Trent

I imagine Parse is pissed but how much longer can you wait on a guy who doesn’t do ANYTHING particularly well. Not a great shot, not a great puck handler, not a big hitter, not a shutdown defender, not a great mucker in the corners…. nothing. Doesn’t hurt you, doesn’t help you. He just seems to chew up minutes. Hunter is a much better option at this point if he dcan stay healthy.

@40YearKingsFan, Parse before his injury was very effective playing 15 or fewer shifts. Once his ice time went over 14 or so minutes you really got diminishing returns. Richardson is more popular and his number is probably around 16 minutes, but basically the same thing. I think if Parse plays on the 4th line with limited minutes he may start to show that deceptive potential again.

Hello, you have reached the voicemail for Dean Lombardi, general mamager of the soon-to-be Stanley Cup champions Los Angeles Kings. I can’t take your call right now since I am in Las Vegas for a stamp collecting convention and recuperating from the lengthy contract negotiations with Trent Hunter. Please follow the prompts: If this is Don Meehan, please dial “1″ and you will be connected to Tambellini. Please do to him what you just did to me since he deserves it more. If this is Drew, welcome back and the bottled water in the fridge is no longer free since you can afford to pay for it. If this is Slava’s agent, hang in there, I see a great future for him. If this is Kopi, thank you, there is a reason you have an “A” on your chest. If this is Brad Richards, no, we don’t need you and no, you can’t leave the Rangers and sign with us now. If this is one of you Insider people, yes, I am aware that I have $2.35 million left to spend and no, I am not giving it to Rich. Goodbye and see at Frozen Fury.

@Scot, Parse has great hands and very good scoring for the few games he has played. Also, he’s quite adept at Lidstrom-style (not quality) defense, meaning all pokechecks. TM hates pokechecks and loves physical play, so he really isn’t fond of Parse. The injuries and rise in quality level of the team have made him expendable.

@Scot, Who do you scout for? That is a most interesting assessment of Parse I have ever heard…hope I never hear such tripe again! What makes a “good hockey player, a good forward, a good winger” in your mind? Seriously! You must be that typical King fan that thinks fighting and hard hitting is all that matters! Sounds that way to me in your review of Parse, Hunter & Simmonds here. Terrible? Do you have an inkling of an idea what terrible forward play is? Parse Scouting Report: Very Good Soft Hands, Good Scoring Touch with exceptional Skill, Quick Release & Accurate Shot, Nose for the Puck, Good Skater, Good around the Net….Not a Banger, Not a Fighter, Clean checker, No bad Penalties, Good PK man in F2 position. Not a guy anyone would want, right? Simmonds has limited offensive potential, average hands, average shot, good feet and legs, banger, hard checker and pugilist tendencies with some bad penalties taken…Good Bye to Simmonds, but liked him for his motor! Trent Hunter is an NHL Winger for sure. The best signing of the camp! Hunter does everything that Simmonds does and then some when healthy; more then Westie can do and brings alot of much needed swagger to the team. Moreau more of same as a fine signing. Could have the best 4th line in hockey this season right in LA(a first in LA!). Parse is not and will never be a 4th line player, so no comparisons there. Parse ain’t goin no where guy, except on the 3rd line with Stollie! A good fit there, since stoll has never had an offensive threat like Parse on his line before! And No Not Clifford either, he’s not a threat just yet on that line….he will be soon enough though!
You should look at “PRMan” reply, as he seems to say much the same about Parse…Of course he does!
[Reply]
Hunter will make the difference on this team. Have you seen this guy play for the NYI? We just stole this guy after his injury. He is welcome play on the top 6. He will end up on the 3RD line. Not 4th line. Because he still young and needs contract for next year.

@TradedForAPick, He plays all 3 forward positions. He is very versatile. He was a Duck at one time early in his career as I recall, but I would have to double check that. Westie may have a hard time to get into the lineup these days! Used to wonder about Westie beyond the dancing routine(its not real hockey fighting in my book- no choreography in hockey fights in my day!). Seems to have developed his skills somewhat and bulked up abit more. He has a motor and is on the upswing, but he cannot touch Hunter or Moreau in overall game. Richie or Trev centering with Moreau & Hunter at wings is top 4th line in LA history(that isn’t really saying much though!)! He brings alot with his swagger and experience! I like it alot!

The Isles had several Goons like Trev Gillies and others in that roll recently and he missed nearly all of last season with a knee injury. He brings toughness and skill in one package with a touch of nasty in the mix. He looked very intense in the pre-season. Terry really likes Hunter a ton and he should!

Glad to have him on the team! Weather Parse or Hunter plays I’m happy we have some veteran guys who can step in, especially when we go deep into the playoffs.
Clifford-Stoll-Richardson
Moreau-Lewis-Hunter
That’s how I see it. Richardson has way too much upside to be a 4th liner, everytime I see him play I’m amazed. Moreau or Hunter could always move up but at the start of the season this seems most sensible.

@kings king, Don’t take guys out of their comfort zones. Moreau and Hunter are best at 4th line positions or a 3rd line when rolling only 3 lines in a game. Richie is a tweener, top 9 to 4th line speed checker, fast on the forecheck as F1. Some opponents its best to have Richie on speed forecheck F1 4th line.(such as Sharks, Wings, Avs, speed teams). Richie does fit with Stollie as well with his speed. Either way and every way, this ain’t no bad problem to have at all! No issues with top 6 forwards, none with 7-9 and now cream of the 4th line crop in camp here…Wow, that is hard to say about the Kings ever in their history! Yikes!

@StillneedDewey FKA PakiFro, Standard procedure in the Cap Era NHL! Any player after their entry level years(1-3) that are not on the NHL Roster, who have NHL game experience need to be put on revocable waivers to clear their Cap hit number from LA’s NHL Cap. If not, and if it is not a two way contract, their Cap number would be counted against LA’s Cap. Did you get all of that? Maybe Rich could chime in here to summarize it for us, but I believe I am accurate here. They are not being Released from their contracts when they are waived with revocable waivers. Thus they end up usually unclaimed, and go to the team’s AHL Roster in Manchester, NH. If they are claimed, LA can revoke waivers with some Cap consequences I believe. It is somewhat complicated in that instance, but the point is you do not have to lose the player from your organization. Campbell has no NHL Game time in, so he goes down without consequences to the Cap regardless. They can let him go if claimed or revoke and keep him in the AHL.

I agree with everyone that Parse has been outsized, outskilled, out performed and certainly outpriced by Hunter. Nevertheless, I respect and appreciate the self discipline, patience and focus with which Parse has handled his injury recovery.
As a former athlete, I know all too well that the hardest part is not being able to do your job on the ice, court or the field, specially when there are teammates involved.
I hope Parse can find a new home that will welcome him and allow him to grow as a part of an East Conference Champion (the SC champion to be is LA, of course).
Best wishes, Scott!!

@Exospeed, An athlete in his late 20′s with hip problems…? Those are usually degenerative and not likely to improve over time. Unfortunately I think we’ve seen the best this kid has to offer. He might make a push either here or somewhere else but his long term outlook can’t be very promising. I think it’s time to let him get regular minutes in Manchester and let him work his way back into game shape. This team is stacked. There is no reason to start a guy who isn’t firing on all cylinders when we have sooOoooo much depth. These are great days we are living bros.

Hunter for 600K is a steal. He has played well. You gotta do that and DL did. Wow.
Parse has to blow doors tonight on his off wing which he’s sucked at the last two times he was put there. IceGuy mentioned sending him to Manch to rework his game. I do like how the post on this site have changed from last season (How much everyone loved and wanted Parse to get his chance).

After 6 drafts Lombardi has produced zero “homegrown” top 6 forwards for the Kings. Lotki seams to have some promise, but let’s hope Parse does also.

@ToughD, because DL stated his primary goal in drafting was to focus on drafting top 6 forwards?

I guess this one really wasn’t about the money.

Absolutely love this signing. Trent’s a class act that brings veteran leadership along with skill, coupled with being a contract year, this could be the biggest steal of the summer. Welcome to L.A. big guy…
Oh, and that other signing? I’ve been very critical all summer, but welcome Drew back. Let’s play ball…my bad…let’s drop the puck.

hunter has played well hope he stays healthy. good size, toughness. rich tell him to get a better number than 47 though that number is for camp tryouts. i think he wore 7 in NY, tell him to try 9
