Jonathan Bernier’s postgame thoughts…
(on having to face 41 shots…)
BERNIER: “It’s good for me, I guess, to get back in shape. There’s no better way than that. I saw everything tonight. I saw 4-on-3, 5-on-3, shootout. I saw a lot of screens. They were good at putting the pucks on the point, to the net and jamming the net. So it was good. Overall, I thought we did pretty good. We didn’t play our best game, but we’re going to get together. On my part, I felt pretty good.’’
(on playing 65 minutes plus a shootout…)
BERNIER: “It’s good. I like it. It’s preseason. It’s there’s to get back in form for the season coming up soon. I don’t think I could ask for better than that.’’
(on the strong 5-on-3 penalty kill…)
BERNIER: “For everybody. It’s a good thing for everybody. If you can see every situation before the season, and especially 5-on-3s, to know what your assignment is and stuff like that. It’s a great job by them [Kings defenders], obviously. I don’t think I had one shot, so it was a great job on the 5-on-3 and 4-on-3.’’
good game jon, thats it.

@LaKingBob[chi], I wasn’t bagging on him, just an observation, and a positive one at that. Previously his answers tended to be self centered and ignored the good his team mates were doing around him.

@red49er,
That’s actually a good point
Good game, and good shootout too! Pretty happy with his play today. Let’s hope that continues into the regular season and beyond.
WTG Jonathan!

Anyone still think Voynov is gonna take Martinez’s job?
Oh, I don’t think so.

@KC23, No. Voynov will take DD’s spot, Hickey will take Martinez’s spot. hehe, Just Kidding!

@Cynic, Give away Drewiskie to waviers when they can just send Voynov down for more seasoning?
Unlikely.

@KC23, Yes, give away Drewiskie because he’s already peaked as a 5-6 and we have Voynov, a potential 3-4 minimum who has said he is tired of the AHL and could go the way of Holloway, except to the KHL if he doesn’t get a decent look.
Let’s say Voynov get’s DD2′s spot and DD2 is waived or traded. Voynov fails and gets sent back down. We have Muzzin & Hickey minimum. If those two don’t cut it, we can EASILY pick up an experienced 5-6 for the same price as DD2 and be just fine.
I’m not knocking DD2, I just think his moment is done, a la Peter Harrold. DD2 can be a 5-6 somewhere else in this league where there is a spot for him.
There is more risk IMO sending Voynov back down again than moving Drewiskie and letting either Voynov, Hickey or Muzzin take that spot for good. Very little risk in my eyes.
Very Likely.

@Cynic, I agree with this range of thinking! Too many options with untapped possibility. Why let DD2 clog up a spot when 2-4 people could fill it? We know what DD2 brings to the table, and obviously it hasn’t been enough in the past 3 seasons to keep him out of the press box, so why keep him in there when we can be giving valuable experience to some of our kids??? Expose him to the wire, I say.

@james wilson, If you’re going by the quotes above, you need to re-read them.
