A look inside Sprint Center

A quick note first… Marc-Andre Cliche, Rich Clune and David Meckler all cleared waivers today, so they are now eligible to officially be assigned to Manchester of the AHL. Cam Paddock went on waivers today. Here are a few shots from inside Sprint Center, tonight’s venue for the Kings-Penguins game, including a look at the Kings’ new practice jerseys…

    @andy, what do you think is worse these jerseys or the king deck of cards jerseys.. those were bad too!!!

    LA_1968 Reply:

    @pat, The shield is okay. But to me they are trying real hard to keep the purple incorporated. What I think they need to do is for the third jersey have purple and gold, with some black (trim?). Of course the retro nights are still there but there was nothing like walking into the forum in the 80′s with the crowd buzzing and the Kings in their gold unis.

    Can you make it here in 5 hrs? The game will be great. Last time when it was against the Isles, I couldn’t believe the amount of team jersies that I saw there. Not just Isles or Kings either, there were many teams represented. Lot’s of Hockey fans here in KC.

    I guess sorta like when the Kings played the Ducks in London, people were wearing every random hockey related piece of clothing they owned

    Wife and 3 kids kind of prevent that, but if I was still a long-haired single guy, I’d be on the plane already.

    Every time I see a Chiefs game I marvel at the fan support. Must be the BBQ.

    Have a great time man!

    @Cynic,

    TY will do. Yeah, everybody in the city wears red on the friday before a Chiefs home game. It really is quite a statement the way they support their team. And during the game, the city goes real quiet because they are all watching! Kinda like the monday night football commercials where everybody drops what they’re doing so they can get home and watch…

    @Cynic, If nothing else AEG can sure build sports arenas.

    [Reply]

    Andrew Reply:

    @KC23, not really. That arena looks to be built for basketball. I took a good look at one of those pictures, the one with the scoreboard. There are a lot of obscured seats in the upper deck in the corners. It looks like every seat might have a view of a basketball court, but if yr sitting in the area you wouldn’t be able to see the net or a good portion of that area.

    lol, i had to tilt my head a bit to be sure. it has all the makings of a wall! if it is, the architect should be taken out back and…i guess we’ll wait for confirmation!

    jammer06 Reply:

    @penguin76,
    The architect was Cesar Pelli, I don’t remember that wall from the plans but we were bidding on the luxury suites so I wouldn’t remember. I’m betting that there is not saleable seating back there however.

    off topic but i just read about what Simmer did last night to Avery. I love Simmer and have a healthy dislike for Avery but after what just happened to Simmer he should know better. A slur is a slur and whether its a racist one or one concerning someones sexual orientation its unexceptable IMO. He was looking good and mature about the way he handled the banana incident and then BAMMMM! he goes and calls someone a _______. Simmer…….Love ya dude, but thats un called for and tasteless. Im disappointed to say the least.

    @puck73, The bannana was tastless and so is Avery. Excited to see 24/7 people will see the power of SIMMER! Check the NHL page on facebook. People think Jagr will get love which he should espically after last night, but people also say Schenn. I think people will fall in love with the Simmer!!! When do the Kings get the camera’s on them? I want the HBO insider!

    penguin76 Reply:

    @BrokeKingsFan,

    i’m not defending Simmonds or saying he did nothing wrong, but i remember when players would reply to questions regarding on ice banter as, “just some trash talking”. Avery airing out dirty laundry trying to garner sympathy for himself or get people against Simmonds? lets not forget he did a commercial not too long ago in support of same sex marriage. again, not defending Simmonds, i’m just saying, “trash talking”. i’m sure Avery knows what that’s about.

    @ike, That word(im assuming Simmonds said) does get thrown around all the time. I am sure most players in every sport say it. Avery is just being Avery and I am sure if there is anyone that throws that word around the most I bet it is him. I do not think it would be good for the NHL if they use Simmonds as the model for not saying those types of slurs. I am sure everyone understands what I am talking about when I say that…A warning is fair

    @BrokeKingsFan, No, whats unexceptable is Avery bringing it to the media’s attention. That guy is the biggest idiot in the league. Any idea how many things like that are said every fricken game? Only difference here is Avery goes against a long standing code of all professional hockey players … whats said on the ice stays on the ice.

    I think the black shield jerseys are bad luck. We have worn them the past 2 playoffs and have only won 1 game!

    [Reply]

    BobsYourUncle Reply:

    @Bean32, And the Kings have never won the Stanley Cup wearing the purple and gold jerseys either…I really don’t think the color of fabric has anything to do with winning? Hey, the Duck won the Cup and their jerseys are hideous! If you don’t like the jerseys don’t buy one and wear the old style you like. They are what they are. so you might as well get use to them… :)

    [Reply]

    Sebastian Reply:

    @Bean32, and the jerseys they wore from 2003 to 2009 must have been super cursed because they didnt make they playoffs in them.

    The scrambling of the lines is smart – those “top” lines are just terribly situated with each individuals’ playing style kept in mind. Williams is a puck hog in the far left corner every game (and boy he misses a ton of shots well wide).. no good for Kopi.. he needs to control the puck and make things happen for Penner.. who needs to get his big booty planted in front of the net. Swap Williams and Brown and viola. That issue is remedied. Brown grinds.. Penner plants.. and Kopi Gretzky’s people all day.

    Line two – Williams should go to line Three.. Clearly he needs to be in control whenever hes on the ice, and that won’t work with Richards and Gagne. Not to mention that makes for a small line with not much pushing power in front of the net. Give Richards and Gagne the serial killer.. Clifford. oh that would just be nasty. Or put Penner out there with them.. so he can once again plant in front of the net and then give Kopi Brown and Hunter/Clifford the pop. Hunter looks like a great addition this year.

    Stoll Williams Richardson – yea it can work.. you know it can.

    Matthew S. Reply:

    @Shotongoal, no i just wrote that cause i thought it would be funny…. yes. really. just my opinion though.. Kings are a dump and chase team.. never been strong crossing the blue. This gives them big bodies or scrappy players charging the net and the corners doing the nifty work. I just think Williams and Kopitar on the same line is a mismatch because Kopi is such a play maker and Williams can impede that at times. Watch a few videos of Williams and you may understand where i’m coming from.

    I’m tired of all the people who won’t give this jersey change thing a rest. Personally I think the defenders and of the purple and crown have made really bad arguments towards wanting to keep the old jerseys besides stating the crown is traditonal and the fact they simply don’t want to buy a new jersey. Honestly if you people are so fond of Lakers colors why not wear those jerseys all the time instead of the old gaudy purple uniforms? What does forum blue and gold have to do with the now alternative purple uniforms? Yet the forum jersey always gets brought up when talking about the purple jersey like if they were one in the same.

    If everyone was buying the purple and gold jerseys, then the Kings would have reverted back to those unis. Same if everyone was buying the purple unis over the back unis, then they would have kept things the same. The change was made because obviously more people were buying the black Kings gear over everything else.

    If you have some sort of problem with the new uniforms because you think the new jerseys looks “boring” or the sheild looks “bland”, then those are perfectly fine arguments. Just don’t campaign about the new uniforms not being “traditional” when you don’t own one of the legends jersey and you show up to games in those gaudy old 90′s/2000′s purple unis that had Los Angeles spelt out in tacky letters on the bottom with silver glitter trim. How many jersey changes have the Kings made where we are way beyond the point in wanting to make any sort of argument about what is traditional anymore? Personally I don’t like any purple uniform the Kings have released besides the old forum jersey, and that includes this new practice jersey. The sheild looks off with the purple, either the shield needs to be a different shade of purple or just ditch the purple or the sheild all together.

    P.S.

    Don’t get me started on people who say the new jersey will attract “Raiders fans” and “gangbangers.” You people need to stay in the OC and just become Ducks fans where their fans punch you in the face for player of the game sticks and Bobby Ryan stomps on people heads.
