Here’s the list, numerically, of the Kings on the ice this morning. It doesn’t include Kevin Westgarth (status update to come after practice) or Jake Muzzin, whose absence might be tied to the “sore neck” that was reported by Terry Murray the other day. More notable no-shows today include Marc-Andre Cliche and Rich Clune.
On ice: Quick, Zatkoff, Bernier, Greene, Johnson, Scuderi, Richards, Kopitar, Gagne, Clifford, Williams, Richardson, Moreau, Parse, Lewis, Brown, Fraser, Penner, Martinez, Stoll, Mitchell, Hickey, Drewiske, Hunter, Loktionov, Azevedo, Nolan, King, Voynov and Campbell.
After practice, we should know the latest official roster cuts and travel roster for Kansas City and Denver.
Thanks Rich for the details.
Hopefully KC is a successful Game. I heard an interview with Luc talking about the KC game and how he thinks it will be a Sell-out. Any word on if that’s likely or not – Anyone?

@dduffy,
Sell out is a relative term. Two years ago when I attended, the upper section wasn’t even open, and I suspect that could happen again. I’m guessing about 8-9000 for tomorrow nights game.

If the Kings lose again in the Pre-season I’m going to blame it on those GLAD garbage can jerseys. They have been bad luck in every playoff game and even the regular season!

@Mike in Oregon,
I was just going to post the same sentiment. Who would have guessed that Azevedo is still around while Kozun and Toffoli are gone…?
[Reply]
I would be fine with this lineup:
Penner – Kopitar – Williams
Gagne – Richards – Brown
Clifford – Stoll – Lewis
Moreau – Loktionov – Richardson
DD/Martinez – Mitchell
JJ – Scuderi
Martinez/Hickey – Greene
I watched both Hickey & Voynov closely over the past 2 games at Staples. First off they are both worth keeping and if not this year, then next year for sure I would say.
Here is what I saw. Hickey made some smart plays, takes shots when he has an opening and can jump up into the play and was more physical then Voynov. Voynov seemed a bit hesitant to jump up into the play and when he did got caught up a couple times, and he doesn’t take the shot when he had the opening which has happened on multiple occasions.
I’d say for now with the Doughty situation, Hickey deserves a good look this year.

@Chris,
I agree both Hickey and Voynov will be playing either this year or next. I am more in favor of Voynov at this point. I saw Hickey make a bad play around his net a couple of times which could have turned out disastrous. However I Voynov’s hockey sense and think he is ready to play at the NHL level. I guess time will tell and either way the Kings seem set on D for quite awhile. NOW DD8…. It’s time to get back here. You are losing fans fast and you are beginning to look like just another greedy hockey player. Remember KOVI?? Please don’t put yourself in that category….

Okay, I’ve been a pretty consistent defender of DD. But, now I’m starting to feel a little agitated. I totally understand why each athlete is driven ot amke as much money as possible. And I know that in general the owners prosper over time as the value of the team goes up and because certain types of revenue can be hidden through various legal entities etc.
But, after all this time I can’t help but think that asking for more money than a proven star such as Kopitar is a little much. Asking for the same amount (esp when it is only 200K/year) seems pretty darn good.
So, purely hypothetically who would you rather have at 7.5M for ONE season? Would you pick DD or Weber?
[Reply]
He Shoots, He Scores Reply:
September 26th, 2011 at 12:16 pm
@Weasel,
Weber, hands down. Why?
He’s a more responsible player. I’d contend that he’s better in his own end, bigger, stronger, better shot. He doesn’t have the highlight-reel spinorama creativity that Doughty has, but I think he brings a true intimidation factor that Doughty doesn’t. I think you need that in a star defenseman, someone who you don’t want to play chip and chase with…

I’m starting to really dislike DD8. And I hope he’s sitting at home and reads this. If you were as big of fan as the kings as you say you were you would make this happen. I think after last night it’s obvious you staple this defense together. The kings need you and you need the kings. I was a huge fan of yours drew but not anymore and until you act like you want to be a king then your not one. It’s upsetting and frusterating that your not here.

@Jefreyryan, He has done a lot of damage to his rep with the fans. There is only one move I Can see him make that would fire us all up… pull a Bobby Ryan and fire Meehan…go around him and sign now… and all is forgiven. We really do want your here DD… please show us you feel the same way or it’s not going to work. Show loyalty to the Kings… not that D’weed of an agent you have right now that has a track record of holdouts and teamless negotiations. Follow along with other Stars …Kopi & Ryan…and hopefully Meehan will get a bad rep amongst the players and his greed and crappy client advice will suffer.
