A reminder that a live online stream of tonight’s Kings-Ducks game will be available through LAKings.com, but only for those in the FSN coverage area (meaning, if you can typically watch the Kings on TV during the regular season). For those outside the area, this is an FSN issue, not a Kings issue, as they control the rights to games. The game is also available on 1150-AM and affiliates. Here’s the link for the video of the game, which will be live later. I’ll also have in-game updates here.
Also, here are a couple interviews from today, with Dustin Brown and Willie Mitchell.
oh well, I’ll be listening I guess..

I figured it had something to do with the T.V. rights. It still doesn’t make sense to me why those outside the area can’t watch the games online. It’s not like FSN is showing the game on another channel that people can watch it on instead of online. What T.V. ratings are FSN losing by allowing people outside the coverage area watch the game? Answer – None. Get with it FSN, and let all Kings fans watch the games.

I had the pleasure of meeting Daryl Evans last night. The guy is awesome. I stopped by a burger place(im keeping it annonymous for his sake) to grab something to eat and sure enough Daryl Evans is there having dinner with his daughter. He looked over and I said “GO KINGS” and he got a hugee smile on his face and asked how i was doing. I said great and continued on to order my food. When he was done eating he made a point of walking up to me and started talking Kings with me. He introduced me to his daughter and we chatted for a bit. He is just as excited about this year as all us fans and it was cool to see someone who has so much background and aclaim in Hockey and with the kings looking so pumped to get the season started. He talked about how Detroit and SJ and Van and others will be tough to beat out but we can do it and also said that we have just as good of a chance as anyone this year at going all the way. It made my night for sure. As some have said the guy is RIPPED! He has got the chest of King Kong. Anyway…..Very cool guy and it was a pleasure talking to him to say the least. @408kingsfan, Best way is to find a local proxy server you can use.
Other options are using a proxy that has backbone IP addresses reserved for ISPs and whatnot that do not have a concept of geographic location associated with them. This is what I’m trying tonight.
My last option, which I’d rather not have to resort to, is using either my or my wife’s VPN access to the respective corporate networks. Their IP links to the internet should be geographically agnostic as well.
If all that fails, I’ll go to the Sharks vs. Canucks game on Thursday at HP Pavilion.

If your company has a proxy server then it’s easy. If not you need to configure your IP stack to use the VPN as the default gateway for all Internet traffic etc.

CAUTION – this is a DFP (Doughty Free Post).
This is totally OT, but I read where the NHL Governors are once again dealing with re-alignment. It’s obvious that Winnipeg has got to get out of the Southeast, but it seems to me they have bigger issues.
I’ve put this together under the assumption that all teams will play their divisional opponents in not more than ONE TIME ZONE different from their own. It basically effects the WEST. What I did was align it more north and south to make the time zones work out. ( ) means the team has moved divisions. ( * * ) means team has moved conferences.
Thoughts?
This is if Phoenix stays in the West.
West East
Pacific LA Northeast Boston
Anaheim Montreal
Phoenix Toronto
San Jose Ottawa
( Vancouver ) Buffalo
Plains ( Dallas ) Atlantic New Jersey
Colorado Rangers
Edmonton Islanders
Calgary Philadelphia
( * Winnipeg * ) Pittsburgh
Central Detroit South ( * Nashville * )
Chicago Washington

Saint Louis Tampa Bay
Columbus Florida

@IceGuy, Also the travel would be more North/South between division rivals. Not East/West across multiple time zones.
Dominick Reply:
September 25th, 2011 at 1:02 pm
@IceGuy,
The only thing that makes sense is to re-align by time zones to keep a Canadian team in each division. That is the only way to allow Canadian teams an equal chance of competing, instead of being bunched up in a few divisions with only a few chances at top seeding.
For instance, your NorthEast division has 3 Canadian teams on it. Which only gives those 3 teams 1 chance for the top 3 seeds for home ice advantage for the playoffs.
Same with your Plains division which has 3 Canadian teams in it as well. If the Canadian teams are spread out over time zones then Canadian teams all have a chance in every division.
[Reply]
IceGuy Reply:
September 25th, 2011 at 1:55 pm
@Dominick,
I get what you are saying about spreading out the Canadian teams, and thus improving their chances for a shot at Divisional title. With that in mind, there could be some adjustments in the East, but the West is a bit tougher, obviously due to geography. The only thing I could suggest would be to swap Winnipeg to the Central and send St. Louis to the Plains. There would be at least 1 Canadian team in each of the 3 WEST divisions that way.
Dominick Reply:
September 25th, 2011 at 2:17 pm
@IceGuy,
I think it’s a headache no matter how you look at it, and it won’t be easy. If you seperate North/South then teams that travel only a small distance east, will end up traveling farther to the North, or South for the same amount of games. But if you seperate by geography you limit the Canadian market to Canada. No easy solutions, and it’s going to suck either way for somebody.
Dominick Reply:
September 25th, 2011 at 4:18 pm
@IceGuy,
The NHL is unique in that it has 7 Canadian teams, as opposed to 1 for the NBA, 1 for the MLB, and none for the NFL. The territorial rights and divisional lines are unlike any other elite sport out there. I think seperating with Canadian teams being more equal in the standings is the Key, but a lot of people think that Canadian small market teams will aquire more cost with the extra travel. So even my idea is flawed.
I never understood this blackout nonsense with hockey and sports in general. They want ratings and viewers, so why limit your viewers to such a small area? On that note, I need to figure out how to hook my computer up to my flat screen!

@TheCrazyWhls, ESPN explains it pretty well: “Blackouts apply to broadcasts that have been sold regionally or locally per league, conference and local rights holder agreements. Regional and local rights holders are usually broadcast stations or regional sports networks. Blackouts are implemented to protect the primary rights holder, as defined by the professional and college sports leagues or teams in a given market.”

@#1faninVegas,
Basically the rights to broadcast are sold to the providers. The black outs are for any provider that hasn’t paid for those rights, or been given permission to broadcast those games.
The provider who paid determins the coverage.
dMan Reply:
September 25th, 2011 at 3:16 pm
@#1faninVegas, you may have heard Bob Miller and/or Nick Nickson state on Kings broadcasts that the broadcast rights are the property of the Los Angeles Kings and that portions of the broadcast cannot be used without the express consent of the Los Angeles Kings, etc.
These statements are legal jargon to establish that the Kings are the primary rights holders of all Kings broadcasts. Broadcasters like Fox Sports West (or even Channel 13) pay license broadcasting fees to the Kings to air games in their defined areas (say Southern California, Southern Nevada, etc.). In turn they recover that expense by subscriptions from cable companies and/or advertising fees as well as footage, interviews, etc. Most of the time these licenses or rights are exclusive to the company who paid for them thereby legally preventing other companies from broadcasting the same game (content) in other areas, hence the blackout.
Due to its global reach, the internet has complicated many of these broadcasting rights, but because of the exclusivity agreement with the broadcaster(s), the Kings (Kings Vision in this case) must comply.
Hope that helps.

@kinginsaltlake, you should try kayak.com. since it wont show you which hotel you will be staying at, search for a 5 star hotel at the north end of the strip WITH a casino. if the hotel given as an option has a golf course- thats the wynn/encore. without a golf course is the belllllllagio. i highly recommend the wynn. it can get a little pricey but you will never- ever- never ever never regret it. was at the wynn 11 times and belllllllaj 4 times in 2010. epic.
