Training camp moving right along

Believe it or not, time is actually running short in Kings training camp. There will only be three more days of full-team, on-ice practices in El Segundo, those being tomorrow, Monday and Thursday. The Kings play Sunday at Staples Center, Tuesday in Kansas City, Wednesday in Denver, next Friday in Anaheim and next Saturday in Las Vegas, then leave for the season-opening trip to Germany and Sweden. To that end, Terry Murray seems to be accelerating the evaluation process a bit. As noted earlier, this morning the players were separated, with the morning ice going to those players who have secured spots on the team or who are getting serious consideration. That’s good news for guys such as Slava Voynov, Thomas Hickey, Andrei Loktionov and Trent Hunter. Here’s what Murray said about the group changes…

MURRAY: “It’s time to get your team starting to get ready. The guys who were with the (morning) group were the players we feel deserved to be there. We’re giving a big push to getting ready for the five games in seven days. Still, we can change players. If we see something that is really good with the younger guys in the (afternoon) group, we can easily do it. We’ll keep everybody focused and enthusiastic.”

The Kings have yet to announce their lineup for Sunday’s exhibition game against Anaheim, but Murray said it would likely largely include much of the likely NHL roster.

MURRAY: “It’s probably going to lean a little bit to the NHL side. I want to try to get some of that team chemistry that we talk about in training camp. That means you need to get as many lines going as possible. So I’ll probably favor guys that played in the NHL last year, while still sprinkling in some young guys that deserve a look.”
