More training camp stuff to see

Is it really possible that a week of training camp is already in the books? Week two starts tomorrow. For those who like to attend in El Segundo, a reminder that the goalies will be on the ice at 8:30 a.m. (the early birds get the pucks, I guess), followed by a group of mostly prospects at 9:30 a.m. It’s expected that most of the “NHL players” will be on the ice for the session that goes from 12:20-1:50 p.m. For a little more from camp, here are interviews that Daryl Evans conducted today with Matt Greene and Davis Drewiske, followed by another set of great photos from reader/contributor Chasen from the first few days of camp.

    @King Doughnuts, look at it again…i said i would not write JUST “first” my real post was after that :p

    @TYLER,
    So instead of saying “first” you just wanted to say that your not going to say “first” by itself?

    I would rather see you write 1st just to annoy Stuart. ;)

    KC23 Reply:

    @TYLER, I also found annoying Stuart far more entertaining. :D

    FiG17 Reply:

    @TYLER,

    I took the “you just did” to mean “you just did outnumber those losers from the south.” I like that better.

    FiG17 Reply:

    Just to clarify… as in 1 Kings fan > any and all Ducks fan(s?). :)

    you know, a lot of these players mention Fraser as part of the the summer additions, so obviously he is getting respect. I honestly thought he was just a throw in, to be bought out when he is able to get off IR. I am beginning to reconsider. still dont know where he fits in though…

    Joe from Gardena Reply:

    @tornado12, I think Fraser will probably be a healthy scratch a lot of the time. A 4th line center when in the lineup. Just my 2 cents.

    @tornado12,

    He did win a cup with Chicago. Never a bad thing to have too many of those guys around. Especially when consider how similar the two teams are built.

    @AZ King,

    well. i think its more a show of respect to a new team member than them actually think he can contribute that much

    Off topic, Handzus got two PP assists in San Jose’s 5-1 win over Anaheim.

    KC23 Reply:

    @danglebagel, SJ is likely gonna have goal tending issues. They lost their back up for 12 weeks and their starter is coming off injury I think. Two of our biggest competitors in the west are starting off with injury issues.

    Vancouver is also short handed with Kesler out for a while longer and Mason and another I can’t recall. Plus they lost a good defenseman in free agency and Torres too which added much needed grit. They added Sturm and us King’s fans know a bit about his history. Definately a question mark and injury prone and not a grit player at all.

    @KC23, malhotra is still having eye issues, though he did play in the SC finals if i recall correctly

    @danglebagel,

    And Ponikarovsky scored both of Carolina’s goals last night!

    [Reply]

    danglebagel Reply:

    @Scot, Glad to hear Poni is on his game on a team he can have success with.

    @KC23, SJ might have goal tending issues, but they went up against “the best line in hockey” two nights in a row and dropped them 6-1 and 5-1, they’ve made it to the conference finals the last 3 years so they’ll find a way. If they don’t make it to the finals this year they’re going to be labeled bridesmaids.

    Let me give you some incite on how the owners are for the kings, my friend used to be the merchandise shop Stewart, and he told me how hard it was to work with them. I think DD needs to be reasonable but i think its a 2 way street. also from my bud

    “only cares about being seen on tv and acting like he cares. Kings fans call him liarweike”

    @Howe9, Perhaps you should have gone. I went to the later session that goes from 12:20-1:50 p.m and there were no NHLers.

    Just curious if anyone watched the sharks/ducks games? Sharks scary good or the ducks not playing well?

    [Reply]

    kinginsaltlake Reply:

    @louis zypher, Dude don’t let the Sharks scare you. we know full well who we are coming after. Yes they have ruled the Pacific for awhile, but now change is upon us. Kings are stacked with talent. It’s a long season. Sharks will have a let down year. Also look for that Courture kid to slump from last season. More teams will be ready for him. Kings win the Pacific and make a strong run for the Cup. Write it down, paste it up, drive to Vegas and beat A hundred. I did!!!

    Kings are 14/1. #9 on list of all NHL teams.

    danglebagel Reply:

    @louis zypher, It’s funny how no one answered your question haha. Looking at their line up they weren’t playing with Koivu or Selanne not even sure Cogliano was playing last night. It seems like they’re looking for a prospect to jump into the mix.

    Getting excited about Hockey this year.

    IM always a hockey fan 1st

    Kings Fan 2nd

    A big fan of everything about Hockey in the state of California, 3rd.

    When I arrived here as kid in Manhattan Bch, hockey was not even on the radar of most people in 1978. No rinks to play in, could not play any hockey my 1st year here coming all the way from Toronto.

    I was still a Leaf fan for the 1st year, but I figured I got traded and there is no-way my parents going to move back, so I can play Hockey and watch my leafs. Then the Triple Crown was formed and that’s when I became a KING fan for life.

    So, for a Kid to grow into an adult in the beach cities, it was very tough to get into the game. Then school kids started to ask me about the game and I new what my goal was, to make more fans of the game I love. It worked and till this day we talk hockey like when I was a kid in Toronto about 30 of us of all ages. I am very happy to see 3 teams in Cali and I support all 3 teams all I can and all the rinks in this state up and down the coast.

    A lot my hockey friends don’t understand why I support Sharks and Ducks, its my hockey history when arrived in Cali. I felt naked no-one to enjoy the game with, no rinks to play in, no street hockey, but slowly everything grew to what the sport is today in Cali. I never want to have that feeling again and I hope one day there is a team in San Diego, Sacramento, Portland, and Seattle, the more west coast teams the better for my LA Kings my number one star.

    Moving taught me one lesson, love the game of Hockey 1st an formost and support all things Hockey till the day I die in my Cali state…

    @Sammuch, way to go, I also am a ‘Hockey Fan” first, came from Detroit in 54. Still a Wings fan and root for them and I love the Kings and “Really” root for them. Even when they play Detroit. I always walk away a winner no matter who lost. Hockey has been my life since I first skated in Wiarton as a 6 year old.

    @Sammuch, Thanks for the read! I as well am a hockey fan first though I could never bring myself to root for the ducks. When 99 arrived i was in grade school and hockey became the sport of choice. Never looked backed – my first true love! I was living in the bay area for a few years and when the kings weren’t in the playoffs or had been knocked out I wanted to see the sharks do well. But, no man, not the ducks.

    @Sammuch, Great read, and similar story for me. I was boen in Baldwin Hills in 1963, then my dad bought his first house in Mission Viejo in 1969. Didnt get into the Kings til 1973, but once I did, I was hooked. Matter a fact, when I got my drivers license in Feb of 1980 the first big road trip for me in my moms olds was I brought 3 friends with me to the Forum to watch the Kings get eliminated by the Islanders in the 1st round of the playoffs.
    Ever since then it seemed I was always trying to spread the word about hockey, plus I played it for 31 years competeively.
    Keep spreading the word, and stay thirsty my friend!

    @Sammuch, Just like you I grew up in the South Bay. We played some street hockey, but never on ice. Was working in Manhattan Beach just last week. Finally I made my way to the Toyota Center. It’s so good knowing that hockey is alive and well in the South Bay.

    I would like to thank Chasen for the great pictures, I don’t know where you were the first day when you shot the picture of Moreau blasting the puck past Quicker but I was on the same angle that you took it from so maybe you were inside as I was just to the left of the food stand. When I saw the picture I said to myself, I saw that happen at that moment. Really, really neat. Thanks again.

    When I say “Inside” I meant you must have been closer to the ice and I was outside up on the mezzanine. Hope I made sense of that.

    Great photo of Gagne winding up to lean into a shot- 3rd row, far right. He’s said to have had chemistry with Richards, I’m still very curious to see him getting some time on Kopitar’s wing.
