@Chris, the best thing to come from that third was kozun’s response… something along the lines of.. as the l.a. kings, we have to make sure this never happens again… not his exact words…. but i love the grit!

Regardless of anybody’s personal take on Westgarth, this interview makes it really easy to see why this guy is popular in the locker room. He is intelligent, well spoken, understands the game, and has a great attitude. It’s hard for me not to like the guy, and I am rooting for him to make those improvements to his game. My prediction is he scores his first NHL goal this year… GKG!

@Subby, Well, I don’t comment often, but you and I both know there is definitely some negativity thrown around here. I sorta feel like if they are wearing the crown, I want the best for them. I have had my frustrations with this team too, but there is too much to be excited about as a Kings fan right now to be caught up in the negative!

@PurpleBlacknGold, Westy was in the top five most improved Kings last season. He went from not knowing what he was doing to flat out holding his own come playoff time. There was little liability left in his game by seasons end. Real good progress with increased ice time.

Kid has smarts, good vision and makes a solid pass. If his skating and conditioning goes up a bit, don’t be surprised to see a 10 or 15 point season from him if he gets the ice time to do more than just intimidation and fighting.

@Token, Good post. that is the evolution of Westgarth that I witnessed last season as well.

@Token, Agree 100%. Let’s hope we do see some point production! And by the way, I think this may be the first time ever there have been 4 positive posts in a row regarding Westgarth!! Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside! GKG!!

Good Morning all King fans. I finally got back to Salt Lake last night. After a great trip to LA, doing business, kicking off the season with the Kings at Hockey fest, Rookie game, and the starting of training camp. Got stranded in Nevada driving back, I’m pretty burned out. Sometimes life will always throw a monkey wrench right when you think your on top. Anyway I’m home now and it’s time to start flying the Kings flag. Yes the season is upon us and by the looks of things this has the makings of an exciting season, along with some high expectations. With those expectations comes lots of responsibility and ownership. Attitude is everything, everything is relative, and ownership is key. Mistakes will be made and we all screw up, but if we take ownership of our mistakes learn from then we grow a day at a time becomeing better the next time out.

@Subby, Thanks for the link. The article offers a different take and was informative. I think what Campbell was eluding to as the emotional, irrational comments on hockey blogs has everything to do with perception. Many of us agree on this blog that this is the best team the Kings have had in a long long time. Expectations are off the charts. That is certainly going to make us die hard fans emotional and irrational at times. The majority of us see Doughty as the key. We can’t reconcile, though, why he does not see it the way we do. That makes us mad, irrational and judgmental.

I’m in no position to judge DD. He’s an athlete and it is his business.
