A few items to ease your way into the weekend…
First, via Twitter, Jonathan Quick has been displaying the new set of gear that he will use when the Kings wear their vintage purple-and-gold jerseys. Last year, Quick went with a brown ensemble, as a nod to Rogie Vachon, but this year he’s going more traditional with the colors. Click to see Quick’s pads and blocker.
Also, the latest in the LAKings.com “My Story” series takes a look at Mike Richards, who details his path from youth hockey to the NHL. Learn more about Richards by clicking here.
Finally, for those who didn’t see, former Kings assistant coach Mark Hardy — who left the team last summer after charges that were eventually dropped — has been hired as an assistant coach by the Ontario Reign, the Kings’ ECHL affiliate. There were two great stories this week by the San Bernardino Sun and FoxSportsWest.com.
It’s good to see Mark Hardy back in the organization! I like JQ new gear too!

Of course she may have invented the whole thing and its just a matter of everyone drying out.

@USHA#17,
Whatever did or did not happen that night, it sounds like the Hardy family has made its peace and closed ranks, and that’s the bottom line for me. If they’re not going to get more specific than that in terms of what they tell the public, then I figure it’s none of my business and I don’t give it a second thought.
Player-X Reply:

USHA#17 Reply:
August 27th, 2011 at 11:17 am
@Player-X
I’ve read your posts. Your a smart guy, but “wow”?
“…judgement his family and Court made”? Families of alcoholics are often enablers. The court did not pass judgement.
Your smart, I imagine you understand that absence of court judgement is not a declaration of innocence. Say nothing and move on, fine. Note my comment that I am glad Hardy has a support system.
But to say “Charges were dropped so he’s innocent”, as Randy S did in the comment I responded to, is nonsense. Its called cuddling an errant sport personality.
I don’t care how bad the power play is.
Player-X Reply:
August 27th, 2011 at 12:42 pm
@USHA#17, USHA, I do not want a war or argument man, but I just gotta say that my point is not yet understood. We are both outsiders to this event; all we know is that there were accusations, but charges were dropped and his family is intact.
The family judgment is therefore made. It should be accepted. If, and we do not know if or if not, forgiveness was required it has been granted. The girl could have been wrong, Hardy could have been wrong, both partially wrong, or any of countless possible explanations. It is not known. So how can you decide or judge when the actual facts are not known?
Regarding the Courts, you are really off base. I do know that the dropping of charges is not a declaration of innocence: the point is that NONE IS NEEDED. You are trying to shift the burden of proof to Hardy, when the COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED on a presumption of innocence. The leap from accusation to supposed guilt is a conviction only in your mind; the law, and society, is based on your being flat wrong, so if you want to argue about it, start with the Supreme Court and let me know how it goes.
USHA#17 Reply:
August 27th, 2011 at 4:38 pm
@USHA#17,
Peace brother.
No fight. Before telling me what’s in my mind I suggest you reread Reandy S’s comment and my response. IMHO his statement is naive.
Heck, for all we know his cousin bore false witness and the resulting rehab was a stroke of good fortune. Or is that conjecture verboten, too?
Hey! Didn’t the Supreme Court recently rule clear proof of innocence is not enough to overturn a conviction or the death penalty or something?
So, onward my friend. What do you think? 7 years, $60M, NMC? What’s the hold up?
Quick’s pads look like he’d borrow them from Ryan Miller. The colour scheme reminds a little of the Sabres. Whatever makes Quick happy this season is fine with me and hopefully he’ll still be clutch in shootouts.

I like the pads but they remind me to much of the Nashville Predators. Again I like them but would like Quick to stick with the Brown ones for the throw back nights. Regardless of Hardy’s guilt/innocense im happy for him that he was able to continue his coaching career and put that terrible situation in the rear view. I just have to mention a couple unrelated things:
1) Logan Couture signed a VERY fair contract today with SJ. He is really close with DD. Hopefully DD learns something.
2) If DD holds out, let’s give Thomas Hickey a shot. The guy was drafted 4th overall and was a supreme player on junior national teams for Canada (I believe he was their captain when they won the world junior tournament). If he is ever going to be an NHL player were going to have to give him a chance at some point. The greatest thing for that guy would be to play some NHL games and I think he deserves a shot if there is an opening.
Sometimes players don’t reach their potential until they are thrown out to the wolves. Throw him in the fire and see how he reacts, it may bring the best out of him.

This Sunday August 28th the Food Network is showing a repeat of an episode of Cupcake Wars titled LA Kings. It is on at 5:00 pm EST – not sure the time on the west coast. I didn’t see it when it aired before but from the few times I have watched the show they normally have a guest judge from the organization they are featuring. Not sure who it is from the Kings. Then four teams battle and make cupcakes that are designed for the show theme. And the winner is shown at the end displaying their cupcakes at an event for the organization. I know it’s not hockey but at least it’s something! Can’t wait til October!!!

It was already signed, she thought it would just say “bob miller” but instead it was signed to Cody. My tormentive response was “who the F is cody?! My name is Mike. MIKE! Cody is a duck fan so u give me his sloppy seconds? YOU’RE sloppy seconds. Kidding babe. Nom”

So glad Mark Hardy is back in the game. He’s a super-nice guy who deserves all he gets.

I am glad to see MH back at work. I am also pleased to see the Kings organization take the step in giving him another chance. Many people condemn without knowing all the facts. We don’t know all the factsof what happened or what has happened the past 15 months. I am sure the Kings had much more knowledge of the facts and felt it was the right thing to do. How can anyon second guess them. The Sun article stated that Mark and the family memeber reconciled. That is a major step in the healing process. Remmember Mark, take it one day at a time, one step at a time. Stay with your program and good things will come.

Not fair! Quick was still just swimming around in a broken condom long before Rogie even retired, so Quick doesn’t have to keep paying homage. Don’t change a thing Quick, and carve out your own mark in Kings history. Everybody 30 years from now will be wanting some other goalie to wear your vintage colored pads one day.
Good to see Hardy on the road to repairing his life. Good luck Hardy.
Lastly, I wanna be like Mike!

I hope it all works out for Hardy and goodluck to him and his family.
But off the subject real quick, I wish that DD would or could take a note of CLASS from the Angels, Jared Weaver and not let his agent ruin his innocence of why it is he plays the game he loves and that he has always wanted to be a KING from when he was a kid. C’mon at some point like JW said when does it become enough. He is loosing alot of support from his fans that love him and I would hate to see or think that he would hold out on his fans and Team=mates the way he is. GO KINGS GO!!!!!!!!!!

Off topic—-Has any one seen the Bones episode with Luc Robitaille? The FBI character, Booth, has a dream sequence where he goes one on one with Luc. Luc is not a bad actor and surprisingly gave some poised dialogue.

I probably won’t be posting again for a while, as I’m moving to New York Monday in preparation of my national radio talk show. Don’t worry. I’ll always be a Kings Fan. 1 thing I’m not seeing or hearing concerns me. It’s real quiet on the Drew Doughty contract talks. What’s going on? Is he signing a new contract or are there issues? The Kings are going to need to open their wallets. Maybe they’re hesitant. I hope that’s not the case. Maybe it’s quiet, because the sides are close. They must sign him. It looks like I’ll have to meet you fellow bloggers another time. It’ll be just my luck that I move to New York, and then the Kings win the Cup.

@Poorman, As long as your on the insider when it happens, your still a part of it. Would be ironic if the Kings met New York in the finals, and you were in the building when they won it. Good luck, and enjoy those New York winters, beach boy.

@Poorman,
Poorman, they don’t have the Internet in NY city? They don’t have NHL Network or a Center Ice type package programming in New York? Are you planning to work 24 hours a day? If the Kings are your passion, then catch Kings Vision too for the highlights. I’m sure you will be posting soon, just maybe not reading the Blog every hour as we do. Good luck on the national radio talk show and keep us posted as to where and when we can catch it in this area.

As for the Cubs… The Cubs? I am starting to think this just might be their millenium!

Can someone help me with NHL Gamecenter?
Now I live here in LA, but I want to cancel my cable and get Gamecenter. I know nationally televised games and games over the air (like when the Kings play on Ch. 13) are blacked out. But are the games on Fox Sports West blacked out?

@Who Knows?, All King and Duck games are blacked out for 48 hours. The good news is you can go back to any game and watch from either the home or away broadcast view (if recorded, most are).
You can go back and watch any game from the last 4 years including the playoffs. I used it to go back and look at condensed games of Philly in their cup run. I wanted to see what part Richards and Gagne played in getting them to the cup. Condensed games show all the big hits, fights, goals and saves without having to watch the whole game.
I found out Gagne virtually always goes to his back hand on shoot outs and break away situations. Gagne occasionally is guilty of leaving the offensive zone too soon on transition before his team actually controls the puck, thus he needs to be with defensively responsible players (that’s why he did so well with Richards). Richards reserves his big hits to big games or teams/players he dislikes (Rangers for example). Both Gagne and Richards are big game players. They play their best when it means the most.
I love it and can’t imagine not having it. BTW, you can use netflix to stream vault gamestch on your TV as well as computer if you have a netflix compatable device hooked up to your TV (PS3 for example).

@Who Knows?, Not in LA county. LA county covers a large area though (including areas like Orange County). If you live just outside the broadcast area, to 100 miles further out, they’re blacked out on everything from Center Ice to live streams on the internet. Versus also, if the games are simultaneously broadcast on Fox Sports 2 (Prime Ticket). Your only options will be to travel to the broadcast areas, or listen to the games on the radio. You will get games on NBC if you live in this dead zone, but those games are few and far in between. Hope that helps.
