The Kings have signed defenseman Nicolas Deslauriers to a three-year entry-level contract. Deslauriers, 20, was a third-round draft pick in 2009 and has completed his junior-hockey career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Deslauriers (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) totaled 13 goals and 30 assists in 48 regular-season games with the Gatineau Olympiques this season. The Olympiques reached the QMJHL finals, and Deslauriers had 5 goals and 15 assists in 24 playoff games.

@tornado12, Actually there is room for most of them. They are all getting NHL ready in waves, so you skate a couple guys a season or two then trade them when they clear their cheap RFA contracts. Rinse and repeat. GMs wet dream for cap management and you get to keep the really good players from the lot. Much more value when you trade players vs prospects.

@Token, Lets keep Dallas they will be on the rebuild for 5 years. Vancouver seems to be the stronger team for the forseeable future. Don’t forget the next 5 to 8 years will likely be the most likely LA Kings Cup Seasons. Do we really want the probable Stanley Cup winner and the Western Conference runner up in the same division? Not to forget with Dallas gone every team would have made the playoffs from the Pacific. Besides we have had Dallas’s number for the last few years. I don’t think we can say the same for the Nucks.

Great atmosphere, awesome spread, drinks on the house everyone excited and then we hear… “With the fourth pick of the 2007 NHL Draft, the Los Angeles Kings select Thomas Hickey.” The place went dead quiet, you could see ????? marks in the air and everyone thinking What the … and then boos started raining down. Jim Fox then stepped in to do damage control but he was drown out by the boos.
And four years later you can still see the ????? marks and the WT f was DL thinking.

@King Doughnuts,
It was the same for the viewing audience at home I think. I definately thought the same thing. Not only about DL, but the entire scouting staff as well. Almost every pundit out there had Hickey projected as a bit of a project.
Now he might still turn out to be a wonderful player, but with the 4rth overall, you should be expecting to get someone who is at least projected to be NHL ready, or very close to it.
billanthony Reply:

@Sebastian, As I recall Couture dropped considerably in the scouting ratings his last year of Jrs. At the time the projected #4 was considered a drop off from the top three picks, and it was thought Alzner would go at #4 to the Kings.
Alzner just played his first complete season in the NHL. Hickey just completed his first, more or less, full pro season. The Kings went “high reward” attempt in picking him. Can’t count him out. By all accounts he’s dedicated, has a high skill level, and has earned praise in the past for his hockey sense. Still very much a Kings asset. Who knows, maybe he turns out like Trevor Lewis but with more upside. The Kings bringing him along at the same pace.

@Kinger, Not until JB learns how to defend a breakaway. A Deer in the headlights would be ahead of JB on the depth chart when it comes to shootouts. Without Quick dominating in shootouts we may have not even made the playoffs. JB needs to round out his game. He looks calm and collected during normal game situations but in shootouts and breakaway attempts He looks visible shaken and ready to bolt. I know everyone thinks he is the next Patty Roy but Roy would be stuffing people in the shootout then winking at them with the ultimate smug look. Remember Sandstrom anyone?

Honestly I don’t know why more Kings fans can’t see that Bernier is the answer when it comes to our goaltending. Bernier is the real deal trust me when I say that. It is a proven fact that Quebec born goaltenders are the best in the world. Bernier will be the next best thing to Brodeur and Luongo. I live in Ontario where pretty much all we do is watch hockey. Look what Bernier did in only a couple of games with Team Canada at the WHC. He stood on his head after sitting on the bench for the last part of the season and playoffs with the Kings. I don’t know if you could get those games in the US or not? I’m not saying that Quick is a bad goaltender but he is not the answer and the hockey world will see this season when the Kings finally make Bernier their #1 goaltender as they move forward.

@Kinger, If Bernier is far better than Quick, it has thus far escaped the rest of the hockey world outside of Quebec, but I can’t argue that he is really good, and if he is the answer, then those things usually have a way of working themselves out, and Bernier would take the job away from Quick, but he hasn’t yet…I”ll take this dillema any day.

@Kinger, So I guess those other goalies in the shootout realized that those wins dont count in the playoffs so they rolled over and let Quick win because they felt sorry for him? Tell ya what, if Bernier wins out in the next season or 2 then he will be phenomanol because Jon Quick is the most competetive goalie I have seen since Rogie Vachon in this organization. And if you remember, Vachon wasnt as tecnically sound as Bernier, nor did he have Quicks Size, he just had blazing side to side speed and never gave up on a puck like Quick. Time will tell who wins, for right now just be happy that we have the 2 best young goalies in the NHL, and they are signed at a low cap hit !

Rogie was awsome wasn’t he? I only saw 2 years of the Kings with Rogie, but didn’t Know enough about hockey at the time to really appreciate it.
Quick is 75 wins away from tying Rogie on most career wins for a Kings goalie. Maybe the season after next, hopefully. Quick is currently tied with Rogie for the best GAA by a Kings goalie for a season with a 2.24 GAA.
He’s already tied the great Mario lessard for most wins in a season by a Kings goalie. He holds the record with the most games played in a season, and most minutes played by a Kings goalie. All this in only 2 and a 1/2 seasons.
If Quick continues to play with the Kings, and improves, he could very well end up owning almost every record worth having for the Kings in less then 3 years.
And we’ll be the ones fortunate enough to see Kings history being made before our eyes, and be a part of it. Just like those lucky enough to see Vachon in a Kings jersey through out his years here.
