Kitsyn, Mississauga reach Memorial Cup final

Kings prospect Maxim Kitsyn is headed to the championship of the Memorial Cup, the pinnacle of junior hockey. Kitsyn and the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors beat the Kootenay Ice 3-1 tonight to advance to Sunday’s one-game championship against the Saint John Sea Dogs. In Friday’s semifinal win, Kitsyn had a plus-1 rating and committed two minor penalties. Mississauga and Saint John met in the pool-play round, and Saint John won 4-3.

    10 months after he lost his friend, and fellow enforcer, Bob Probert. I wonder if this tough guy thing is starting to affect these guys’ lives a little too much. Just unbelievably sad.

    @KingsFanFTW, Might as well just order their Championship rings, and schedule the parade. Or they could actually do something really on Edge like play the series. So Boston has a few problems. …. they obviously find a way to win. By the time the Cup Finals role around. I think both teams should at least be due some respect.

    Thank goodness! I hope we can put a rest to how great the guys Dean Lombardi has let go are…at least until the Final is over. I don’t think there are any Kings cast offs in this series, save for Tambellini, who I hope tears it up…because I’m going for the Canucks.

    As much as I want Vancouver to lose, I also don’t want the city of Boston to win all 4 major championships in the last 10 years. It’s a lose lose situation. I guess i’ll have to root for Boston because of my hatred towards Vancouver for what they did last year to us, and also for disgracing the 99 statue outside Staples. Go Bruins!

    @GG, A couple things…
    1) It’s the Bleacher Report. That the National Enquirer of the sports world.
    2) 99% of rumors are bogus. Unless a guy cites an inside source and names names, I don’t believe a lick of it.
    3) The trade itself, in this case, wouldn’t make any sense. a) We don’t need more centers. We already have too many (Kopi, Stoll, Richie, Zus?, Lewis, Lokti, Schenn) b) We already have a guy who wasn’t really lauded for his work ethic (Penner). You think they want to bring on another guy like that?

    On a scale of 1-10, this article’s credibility is a 1.

    @puddle, we are going to be hearing about every player on every team mentioned linked to the Kings between now and Draft day, It’s sort of fun to speculate since there’s not much else going on with the Kings right now. I’m sure Philly and L.A. have been talking for over a year now, since we have something they need and they have things we need.

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

    @GG, Rates as one of the most absurd rumors I’ve heard in a while.

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @GG, It’s not meant to be a fact, but a speculation on what the Kings could, or should do. Everyone will be doing that, on almost every site, till the FA’s find homes. They’ll also be trying to release any possible rumor that is linked to any player available, so don’t take it as something thats actually happened till you read it here. Just enloy it for what it is, speculation.

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

    @Dominick, I know if is just speculation, but the obsurdity of it is off the scale. The guy doesn’t crack even 20 goals a year and we got all the 10 – 20 goal scorers we need. Then add the fact that DL looks for good locker room character guys … just doesn’t make any sense what so ever.

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @KC23, I agree with you (you never know, though). GG just seemed to be looking for confirmation. The article wasn’t stating a fact, it was just putting a proposel out there for consideration.

    Well Kitsyn will be a -1 for the game, but had nothing to do with the goal scored while he was on the ice, even though his team lost 3-1 Kitsyn had a real nice game,,really reminds me of a cross between Frolov and Thornton, he really hangs on to that puck and is so dangerous centering from behind the net on the PP, has a great move to the net as well. he was the best player for Missisuaga in the second period and sort of turned the monetum for his team in their favor with some strong play. Lets hope this kid is willing to go to Manchester for a year. Happy Memorial day to all our veterans

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @Ravens,
    Not a single championship won this year by our entire organization. Just wasn’t our year this year. We’ll get’em next season. Kitsyn played great, but the 3rd they really did well defending him. Opened up the defensive match up in the 3rd for Smith-Pellys’ line, since they switched coverage to Kitsyns’ line more. Tuff break, but still, they played alot better than the score would suggest.

    Why is everyone so quick to toss Zus and Poni out the train window?

    Maybe they can be had short-term for much less than we paid them this past season.

    And leave us not forget that both of them were significant reasons why our PK was among the best in the league. Zus was also instrumental in getting that crucially important extra shoot-out point — not to mention his face-off skills and general hockey brains.
