Lombardi, Murray interviews

Dean Lombardi and Terry Murray were both available today for lengthy, wide-ranging interviews regarding the recently completed season and the plan going forward.

Over the next few hours, I’ll be posting the full answers, topic by topic, and the areas of discussion are what you would expect, including the level of disappointment vs. satisfaction with the season, The need for improved offense, Dustin Penner, Drew Doughty, potential offseason improvements to the roster and much more. No huge bombshells, but a lot of interesting stuff, so stayed tuned for that…

    No bombshells? I was hoping for an all out pursuit of Richards. I’ve also heard rumors of Shane Doan and even Iginla, who would be awesome.(And HUGE)

    @AZ King, That is not true. Kolvabucks is going to be on the Kings any day now. I’m sure of it. :D

    @frazier king, The rumor is that if the Coyotes move to Winnipeg and Doan doesn’t want to go with, he will be traded away. It is a rumor but he’s definitely somebody I wouldn’t mind having on the Kings.

    BrokeKingsFan Reply:

    @ValleyKingsFan, yeah, it would stop him from ripping us a you know what everytime we have to play him.

    frazier king Reply:

    @ValleyKingsFan, Doan is what they call “gritty” he would be a great pick after watching san jose and van and the duck out grit us to death, game after game it seemed like wave after wave came after us and thanks for the info.

    poe Reply:

    @ValleyKingsFan, Forget Doan–of more importance is getting Tippett—he’d up the level of the Kings. He sure did when he was Asst coach to And Murray

    Dom Reply:

    @ValleyKingsFan, Iginla isn’t going anywhere. Richards wants to test UFA market (according to ESPN) and Doan….. Doan? What about Doan?

    [Reply]

    Gabby Reply:

    @ValleyKingsFan,

    Lombardi can’t comment on any of these players until July 1. That would be tampering and would cost us draft picks.

    Hey Rich,
    I know your busy transcribing interviews – but could you maybe ask the Kings what’s up with the “Fan Trips” to the European games next season?
    They said stay tuned for Fan Trip information, in the meantime individual tickets already went on sale, and supposedly all general admission tickets for the Berlin game are already sold out. What gives? Do the Kings not want their fans to come along??!

    [Reply]

    Bingram Reply:

    @StevenF,

    Seeing as how season ticket holders have to pay for the ticket whether they can attend or not.

    Bodoe Reply:

    @mike morbid, I was watching the game. How sweet it was when Toews sunk that goal with 1:56 left in the 3rd. I was so giddy I almost dropped my sammich. But, the Canucks are too good at gobbling up turnovers and using it. I wish the Blackhawks would have won :\

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

    @Bodoe, I’m only glad the Hawks lost because I think SJ would’ve beat them and I want so badly for them to be swept by DET.

    @mike morbid, the way the players reacted was like they HAD won the cup… geez, act like you’ve been there before.

    @MOSH, and what are your thoughts as to why we should keep him?

    [Reply]

    MOSH Reply:

    @BrokeKingsFan, Remember williams last playoffs vs vancouver he was worst than penner and look at his stats this season,penner could be the same situation

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

    @MOSH, You realise Williams was coming off major surgury and Penner has been healthy?

    Bingram Reply:

    @MOSH,

    Only if he is willing to get in shape. It was dreadful watching him chase the opponents and loosing ground the entire time.

    [Reply]

    Blurker Reply:

    @Bingram, It’s a contract year. Penner will have several MILLION reasons to come into camp in shape.

    i wonder if they going to keep TM most likely

    They better Keep DD he just had a bad season

    Bingram Reply:

    @KingsFanFTW,

    Doughty is another player that needs to get in shape. He really need to work on his upper body strength.

    KingsFanFTW Reply:

    @Bingram, i agree on that but i wont trade him he going to bite us hard

    [Reply]

    Bingram Reply:

    @KingsFanFTW,

    I wouldn’t trade him either, I just want him to get motivated to work hard and not rely on just his natural talent.

    KC23 Reply:

    @KingsFanFTW, If TM was going to be let go, he’d already be gone.

    On a different note, I think the KINGS should’ve do something for the fans after Game 6. I know they’re DOWN AND OUT, but how cool would it have been if they saluted their fans?? I think VERY COOL. I think they are a class organization and team already, but some kind of a tradition to start for us fans hanging tough with them all season.

    Thoughts????

    Go KINGS Go!

    Stuart Reply:

    @Fabkings, I feel this has been talked about ad nauseum… it would’ve been forced. Like when Bart had to hang out with Ralphy.

    The LA / crown shield is all over the web site, let’s make the switch to the third jersey as the Primary home jersey, Rich, investigate please!

    [Reply]

    ValleyKingsFan Reply:

    @Keithz, Why? IMO it’s the worst jersey since the Burger King one (Which was at least funny). Would much prefer the early Staples jersey with what is on the shoulders of their crown jerseys.

    anonandonanon Reply:

    @ValleyKingsFan, Second this. Bad Jersey. Not gross. Just excruciatingly dull.

    Boo. Hasn’t been officially announced but it will happen. Very unhappy about it. No more purple in the NHL next year. Except our current home will be third.

    PP Anybody? Reply:

    @mrbob25, Sooo lame. I hate that jersey. Second worst in Kings history, only to those horrible side print wave ones with the cartoon King on them. Wish this wasn’t going to be our primary jersey. The shield looks like something someone in accounting came up with by enlarging the font in a Microsoft Word document.

    KC23 Reply:

    @Keithz, Not liking going to the 3rd jersey and might I remind all that we’ve lost 5 straight home playoff games in that jersey.

    Penner is only good for the kings when Kopitar is in the lineup. For whatever reason Kopitar plays with more heart and speed when penner is playing along side. Any chance of getting Parise in the off season? Ponikorovsky didnt play too bad near the end of the season but is too scary to predict if we signed him another year. Drew doughty didnt have the year as he did last season but good for us because he is a UFA. His value wont be as high as it would have been if he would have had another amazing season. I like Jack Johnson but i think we signed him for too long and for too much money. Just my personal thought.

    Bingram Reply:

    @kingme81,

    I believe Doughty is RFA.

    Could you ask Terry Murray if our constant second guessing of any aspect of the game bothers him? He was so good about the interviews and his reasoning and we… we just tore any tiny piece of any info to shreds. Thanks to all the coaches for their insights.
