@KingsFanFTW,
I don’t think there’s really much suspense. Stoll and Penner will surely get the call. Poni probably won’t be re-signed and Moller has pretty much been ruined by TM’s system. I believe this is more of a cheap, transparent attempt by TM to motivate Stoll and Penner. I don’t think he has the guts to scratch either one of them. If I’m wrong, I will gladly admit so on this blog.

@Crown Royal, in most sports, most coaches ask the players to play the system the coach believes will be best for the team to win. I have not come across to many coaches who set up a system that a player wants to play. I do know for a fact that many parents believe the latter should be the case for their children. i hope you can find teh ‘right’ coach for your children.

@jet,
I found few coaches who knew how do to develop players when my son was growing up playing hockey. The ones who helped develop him didn’t play “a system” but let him grow as a player unemcumbered by a system. Much of the time I coached him myself. He is not a professional player.

@ty32LA,
There’s a difference between being loyal and understanding reality.
I am a loyal Kings fan. But, if I had to bet, or if I were a hockey analyst on TV, I would say the Sharks have won this series. That takes NOTHING away from my loyalty as a fan. I still HOPE they win, and will be as happy as you if they do. But, get real. Compare the 2 rosters.

@Scot, yeah, but blaming Quick there is no loyalty there, and this series could easily be 3-1 or 2-2 in favor of the Kings but with defensive breakdowns and terrible coaching strategy by TM we are down 3-1. These players are playing their butts off. This has nothing to do with their roster because the Kings have proven they can hang with them.
C’mon, Kings! You’ll have to do it without me tonight. Kick some fish butt tonight and I’ll see you guys again Monday! Go, Scott Parse, GO!!!

I’m guessing it’s going to be Penner out, which is probably the right call. Ponikarovsky has played well and Penner is just in an awful slump. Maybe if he sits out and they win, that might be what snaps him out of this funk he’s in.
I have also been wondering if there is something else going on with Penner, either on a personal or physical level, like something is going wrong in his personal life or he’s playing hurt. In any case, he seems to be the logical choice to sit.

@Minnesota Kings Fan, Agree about “something wrong” Foxy mentioned a couple times in previous games that TM in his talks with Penner said if you can only give me 15 seconds of hard play on a shift, do it then head for the bench. I have noticced that after a hard skate, DP at times will do just that and Poni gets on in his place. Just something I have noticed recently. Also, there have been some line switching between Poni and Penner.

Penner’s not in an awful slump, he is inn awful shape. He has played on this team since
March 1st and if he had the desire, that should have been plenty of time for him to get in shape.
Scott Parse says he is ready to play. So I believe he will do more for the team than Penner does.
Stranger things have happened than teams coming back after being down three games to one, keep the faith.

Went to a great AHL playoff game last night between Hershey and Charlotte. Charlotte won the game 5-3 after trailing 3-0 and even 3-1 after 2 periods. They now leed the best of 7 3-2 going back to Hershey.
Come on Kings. I also hate this day. Let’s extend the series and take it back to LA after a big win tonight.

Our Kings need a great solid game like #2, and then that game should define our play the rest of the post-season. I cannot believe that the game 3 collapse will determine SJ post- season, this game must be our stand and say no more to bad plays, from this point on it must be solid game in every line for the full 60 min+ot. Come on boys we believe, bury the sharks tonight, Start JB on monday and Quick in game 7. GO KINGS GO
ps..penner did you see ryans goal last night, that is how a big man plays,,,,your BETTER, lets do it..if you play tonight.

I agree with everyone here who is completely blown away by how bad Penner is playing. But, a little food for thought. He was effective for 65 games in Edmonton this year. And he was effective the first week he played with the Kings. Then all of a sudden he is completely worthless. There are two logical explanations for his deop-off: after the first week he settled into the Murray system which stiffles creativity and rewards grit over skill; or he lost his two linemates to injury (Kopitar and Williams) and lost his way. Most of you here think its the latter. I think its a little of both but more the first reason than the second one.
[Reply]
this will not be the last morning view of the season. i know its tough watching the 4th best defensive team in the league allow 6 goals, but 1. its the play offs, 2. missing kopitar, you cant say you didnt expect the kings to be in this situation. considering the 6-1 loss we took at the end of the season i was shocked when the kings took that game 1 to overtime. i think they’ll surprise us all. we cant be counted out, we can come back, we can get past the first round, we can be surprised.

Sad but it is very difficult to be positive about anything this team is doing. It has been a total defensive collapse from a team that was among the the league elite all season. I absolutely believe that the Kings have the ability to pull this off but I see a failure in the leadership, and without that, there is little chance of success.

@John, Wrong! It’s a failure of our old coach and GM. We needed to play the young skill players we have: Moller, Schenn and Loktionov. Explain to me how we were on a nine game win streak with loktionov in the line up then TM sat him for the islanders game because supposedly he saw something in the film and then sent him down without ever playing him again. We of course lost that game to the Islanders (worst team in the league).
TM has to be fired. He is living in the 70s. We need a coach that understands hockey in the year 2011!

So now what about Byslma who a lot on here want to bring him to LA for BIG bucks? Is it really the coach or the players on the ice? Just saying the coach isn’t on the ice making the plays.

Okay for the Kings to win tonight everyone has to be better. Goal scorers must score and defenders must defend. Puck stoppers must stop the puck.
[Reply]
It’s possible. Tampa did it, ChiTown did it. Heart boys, thats what we need. Heart and focus. Its not as if this team has not faced adversity before. And despite your fake fans on here that like to armchair coach, there are those of us that believe that there is talent and depth on the current team. Unfortunately its also mixed in with youth and inexperience, and sometimes the youth and inexperience side takes over. Remember to play YOUR game, to take YOUR shots, and know that there are those of us that believe in our team, WIN or LOSE, we know its been 40 years, but we know its coming. Good luck tonight. And let’s take it to Game 6.
