Being at this game in person and seeing the Kings play this well was a dream come true. I yelled louder than the whole section of Shark fans. So sweet! Great team effort. Everyone played huge! Clifford,Simmonds,Richardson line is wrecking havoc for the Sharks. Doughty proved why he’s the best defensemen on the ice. Go kings! Great work!

@Hockeysureshot,
The sky is falling at sharks DB nation. I enjoyed this one…Reality is setting in… I hope the thoughts start eating away at the sharks… Again, they are thinking already. We win Tuesday and it will mentally destroy them. They are still being cocky.
“Tonight’s performance was inexcusable. And we’ve got two days to sit on it, which makes it worse. But all “the sky is falling” rhetoric will dissipate once people sleep on this game and regain perspective. One thing is indisputable, though. The Kings have clearly shown up to play. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this series go the distance, and with the momentum and confidence both residing about 400 miles south of San Jose right now, I don’t think the idea of an upset is as unimaginable as it was 24 hours ago.”

I don’t know if practice time has been announced yet…haven’t seen it on the site. Anyway, I’ll be sitting on the floor somewhere to the left of the blue line. It’s my favorite spot. lol.
Oh, and if you’re interested in getting signatures, you can stick around and some of them will exit the building about an hour or so after practice. No guarantees, though, as it depends on who has parked in the lot outside.

@C leb, I watched Bob and Jim but replayed the third period of the Versus telecast. The SJ announcers said “suddenly we have a series”. That tells you how cocky they were. They barely won game one and even at that it was only 1 game to zero. They blamed the whole thing tonight on desire and hustle. Waawaaawaaaaaaa. They’re going down.

I’m in NH so I had no choice but to listen to the SJ announcers. By the third period I couldn’t stand it so they went on mute. I listened to the Kings radio feed, which was a few seconds ahead of the tv, but it was better than the alternative. Really wish I could have watched with Bob and Jim but that wasn’t possible.
Can Kopi please, please be at every single Kings game.

@Simarosa, I feel for you guys. We have actual (not CSN or FSW) TSN coverage in Canada, and it is relatively good. I was dreading having to listen to those CSN chumps. However they were basically treating this series the way you described above, saying at the beginning of the game ‘We’ve seen their best push, now it is time for the Sharks to put this series to bed.’ That made it all the sweeter…

@Rod, The Sharks still have plenty of bite but the Kings proved beyond a doubt that they are a force to be reckoned with. Towards the end, the Shark’s play by play guy remarked “we have a series here”, proving that they had expected an easy series win. They somehow had forgotten how hard fought the season series was.

@Pili,
Funny because they barely won game 1. I think every single person saying they were toast was the best thing for them. This series is far from over… We have certainly showed we can win and win well. It’s almost like everyone forgot we won the season series. Yeah, with 2 shootouts but as coach Riley would say, it’s all about the “w”. A win is a win is a win. Let’s go up 2-1 and really mess with their heads. GKG!

to kill a Shark offense is by out number their attack then letting them out numbering our defense…
Lets keep that up and am sure we get game 3 like we did in last year against the Canucks

I hope the Kings play with their heart and passion and alot of effort and hard work am sure they get the win in game 3

Amongst the players who made their presence felt was Dustin Penner. I’ve contributed to several threads saying how disappointing this trade has looked. One game does not a career make, nor even a season, but if he shows up like that then not only no complaint, but welcome Dustin Penner. We’ve been looking for you.

@number 6,
have to disagree strongly. Penner had a couple of semi-decent shifts in the first, but was not “effective” by any stretch of the imagination. i saw nothing that could truthfully be called ‘making his presence felt’. he had a least 3 solid opportunities to do something ‘effective’ and completely bumbled them all. he showed _a little bit_ of effort, for a change (which, granted, is a small positive), but that’s not really saying very much. he looked as feeble as ever in the third.
agree that there was a vast difference between DD game 1 and DD game 2.

The Kings played 60 minutes of hockey the way we know they could play. Even though they didn’t play this way for the last weeks of the regular season and the first period of the first game, they really look like a team that hit the reset button.
I also think they caught the Sharks off guard, perhaps overlooking the Kings. The question now is can the Kings keep it up and go for the kill and will the Sharks figure out that they can’t just show up in the playoffs.

Pili Reply:

@vplaza, Yes the element of surprise may be gone, but the effectiveness of the system can still dictate this series. In my mind, the Kings’ fate is in their own hands. The Kings don’t have the greatest playoff record either, but all that history is out the window. GKG!!!

There goes the so called Hockey experts before the games started everyone said sharks 5 or 6 games over the Kings ( so did I ) But after the first game I have to say the kings where as good as the sharks ! After the second game I am giving the edge to the Kings, hope it’s not going to happen like last time after a great road trip, they dropped 8 home games a row. After I saw the hit on Smith I have to agree TM was right, can you image if he was facing the board? JS got 1 game this guys should of been DQ-d for the remaining of the games.

I just read where Cheapshot Clowe said that the Kings played a “desperate game”, demeaning any skill, execution and competiveness the Kings brought. The Kings, on the other hand, keep mentioning what a threat the Sharks pose and that there is a lot of work to be done. May the Kings stay “desperate”
.
[Reply]
The Kings played their game from start to finish. San Jose helped us, immeasurably, by taking foolish penalties early and then playing loose on the PK.
Loved the way we responded to taking a lead. No give-backs this time! Instead, the guys revved up their clamp-down D and grinding O and basically wore down the opponent.
Obviously a huge game from Doughty, but everybody took their game up a notch. They played tough. More importantly, they played smart. Gotta love the way Clifford has developed.
Does anyone else sense that big plays from Penner and Simmonds are in the offing?
After Game 1, we THOUGHT we could beat them. Now, we KNOW we can beat them. And they do, too. Given the Sharks well-known propensity to choke in the playoffs, let’s hope they get rattled enough to lose their discipline…and that if they do, we’ll manage to retain ours.

It doesn’t surprise me, the hockey elite don’t believe the game is played out West. NHL Network’s “On the Fly” had detailed highlites of every game and full expert analysis–except the Kings game, for which they only showed the box score! Just goals at end of show and no analyst comments!
[Reply]
Penner thanks for showing up last night. No you didn’t score, but you played hard and made a few good hits. Dude, if you keep playing the goals will come. We need you in this series. Man Peeps, I can’t think of a more solid post season game then the one we saw last night. Our “D” flat out won that game. What a way to shut up those shark loving announcers. I understand way VS shows the Comcast feed, but I thought you had to be somewhat even in your broadcasting. I had to sit through these guys praising the Sharks even when they went 4 goals down. It just goes to show you what they mean when everyone says’s that “D” wins Championships. Drew plays with this cocky kind of edge that only comes if you have lived in LA for a bit. Also when are opposing teams fans going to learn that the old worn out phrase, Beat LA, does not help you win. Can’t fans come up with something new. Gotta love how the team kept playing so Quick could get the shutout. One big goose egg the Sharks layed. Now we come back home. Road Warriors we are, Protect this house, means more now then ever before. Let’s hope that the Blackout in Staples will blind them Sharks and put the NHL, The Media, and everyone else who thought that we were going to fold up and die, on notice that the Kings and their Fans will die hard. I guess a nap and a prayer before every game will be my ritual for the remainder of the Post Season. Great game Kings….. Thanks!!!!

@kinginsaltlake, The analyst irritated me from the opening faceoff, but the play by play guy wasn’t bad until the game was out of hand, and then he took some liberties with his loyalty. I really don’t blame announcers too much for that, but we really should get the FSW feed for the games at Staples.

@Pili, The reason why we won’t get the FSW feed is because VS is owned by Comcast. Fox and Comcast are competitors thus the reason why the VS feed is blackout in LA. You folks in the LA market are lucky because you guys get Bob and Jim, we here in Salt Lake get stuck with the poor talents of the San Jose announcers. It’s all good as long as our Kings play hard there will be nothing to hang our heads low about. Again I can’t say enough on how Penner played last night. I’m beginning to pull for this guy. He’s so darn big and if he really wanted to he could control games the way Rick Nash does. I’m pulling for you Penner. We want nothing more then for you to be part of this club. Go out and make some noise, let us see the hockey player we know is in there. Here’s to ya….

@kinginsaltlake,
in response to your post…. I agree wrt to the announcers. You can be as homer as you like when you’re broadcasting for your city, or Center Ice, but if it’s going nationally you’d like to think it could be a bit more ‘toned down’. But I did hear them say they thought Cliffy will be a good one. That’s at least something.
Oh, for the ‘beat LA’ thing. Watching game 1 I started almost laughing when I heard that. I mean other than the fact that we got to the Finals over 15 years ago, we haven’t won anything. It seemed really bizarre. Not like we have the history of the Lakers or Dodgers. But at the same time I thought ‘hey cool, the fans must think we’re really really good if they’re getting into it that much’.

I kind of had this feeling. A young team, got a taste of the playoffs last year, and nearly beat Vancouver with an inspired power play. Right then, I could tell – this team lives for the playoffs. We may or may not ever find the fortitude to play consistent in the regular season, but that’s ok. DL learned his lesson from the sharks – with them he built a talent powerhouse that didn’t have the character to win a playoff series. Not this time. DL has built a character powerhouse – a team that comes alive in big games, and plays for each other when the games really matter. Maybe maturity will lead them to regular season consistency someday, but for now, my instinct tells me that we are dark horse playoff performers, like Montreal, and not powerhouse choke artists like the guppies. And I for one am very ok with that.
