Jarret Stoll received a one-game suspension for his hit on San Jose’s Ian White. No word yet on whether anyone will be called up, or whether the Kings will go with Oscar Moller. The Kings just arrived at the practice rink and are scheduled to be on the ice at 1:45 p.m. I’ll have updates as available…

Yes, play him, burn the year, and maybe advance? If he can score, ownership pulls in additional revenue.

Just go back and read Deano’s comments about the situation. If he didn’t want the kid to come in to fill Kopi’s spot, how do you think he would bring him in to fill Kopi’s AND Stoll’s spot? It would be very un-Deano if he reversed course that way.

@kozak, well Clifford’s hit against Vancouver’s Tanev in the regular season didn’t require any missed games at all even though he received a game misconduct penalty. Yet Stoll receives one game for a less serious hit that was apparently not deemed that serious by the referees on the ice. Indeed I believe it is due to it being the playoffs that he is being suspended. One game because it was unintentional. Don’t think it’s fair that the outcome of a playoff series should be affected by league intervention. Although it was a blind hit, with the point of contact being the head, there is also intent and location where the hit occurred. It wasn’t an open ice hit. It should be expected that contact will occur behind the net. It is a playoff game. It is also the hitee’s responsibility to not put himself in that position. That is why Clifford didn’t receive any games. It was also Tanev’s equal responsibility to avoid the hit.

Call up Schenn for one game. It’s the perfect scenario for him to come up. Say that it’s only for the 1 game Stoll is going to miss, that way no one (Including Schenn) is surprised if we send him back after 1 game so that we don’t have to exercise his contract. If he plays great and proves he belongs, then keep him up here, the reason why DL didn’t call him up here in the first place is because he wasn’t sure if he could perform in the playoffs. I know 1 game isn’t much of a platform to prove he can play, but it’s woth it IMO.

If Brayden isn’t called up, I dunno what this team is running. You can’t play Moller. He will absolutely get knocked out. Murray didn’t have enough faith to put him in Game 1 over Westgarth, so do you really think he thinks Moller can replace Stoll? Schenn can play one game before he burns a year off his contract. Call him up. Let him have a chance to shine. If he does shine, keep him up and throw everything at the Sharks. If he doesn’t, then nothing loss and send him to Manchester; Stoll will be back for the first set of Staples’ games.

@SKF, Stoll’s hit didn’t target the head. His forearm went into the back. Not a play you want to make and make yourself subject to a suspension. I think it was not intentional, but still dumb. However, guys use to protect themselves near the boards. Many guys were hit from the back last night, this guy just put his head into a bad position. At some point the player near the boards has to be responsible for his own safety. Stoll was not overly forceful with his check, just pushed him up against the boards. Demers however intended to make contact with the head of Smyth and intent should be considered, not just the result of the play. Unfortunate for San Jose and White. There will be a huge call or suspension that changes the outcome of a series this year.

I’ve been told before that there’s no roster limit for the playoffs, but there’s a limit to how many players they can call up–which they have not reached.

I agree that the hit should not have been made by Stoll, but I dont remember Chara getting a suspension for the hit on Pacioretty. I could be wrong but I dont recall him getting a suspension. 1) Just like the Richardson penalty (slashing after he was tripped)…don’t like it…but understand why it is.
2) If the NHL wants to cut back on injuries…they have to punish intent also (Demers superman impression…needs to be address…don’t care fine or suspension)…just because he missed doesn’t excuse him…only reason he didn’t is because he did it on a seasoned vet…if it would have been Moller or Clifford injury would have occurred.
3) I’m over it now…let’s move on and win on Saturday

@Dave,
My guess is that the contract is only one part of it and that, although a forward and not a goalie like JB, DL’s approach would be similar to how he brought JB along. And who can possibly say that that hasn’t worked? He’s been great. And on Versus last night they talked about how JB by this slow approach is gaining more confidence.
I imagine it’s the same thing w Schenn.

Easy call…move Lewis to fill-in for Stoll, Moller centers the 4th line and hope the we don’t get killed! Regardless of burning a year on his entry-level contract, bringing Schenn up doesn’t make any sense, he only played 8 games with the big club at the beginning of the season.

I have to be honest boys. I think TM did his best coaching and juggling act of the season last night. I know its hard to watch Penner drag his ass from blue line to blue line before waiving his glove for a line change considering the cost at which he came to be a King, but I think he played well and fit nicely on the 4th line. He looked a little more motivated and honestly he looked pretty good with westy and Lewis. Now is he the answer to our 4th line? Gaed I hope not but for the next 3 or 4 games I say leave him there. He’ll get a chance or two trailing the play when Lewis spits it out from behind the net and his defensive responsibilities are far less og an issue. Also I really like the way the rest of the lines played. We can win this boys. GKG!!!
Game 3 and up
Smyth-Stoll-Williams
Poni-Zues-Brown
Clifford-Richie-Simmer
Penner-Lewis-Westy/Moller
I’m telling you…tha’st the best 4 lines we’ve shown in a while.

As for the constant “bring up Schenn now!” attitude, I respectfully disagree. What good will it do to bring up this guy for a few games while burning a year off his contract. Would he help? Possibly. But what if he comes up and doesn’t contribute an iota to the games. Most likely he would be out of sync, he would certainly have to learn the Kings system in a hurry, and there’s the risk of him hurting us more than he’s helping us. I’m not convinced that he would be “all that” nevertheless it would be interesting. I say, let the chips fall where they may right now, if we pull it off with what we have, great, if not, then we all know why. We’re just not a complete team right now. I guarantee next year will be much different with a healthy Kopi and a good free agent acquisition and maybe a trade and Schenn will be up and we’ll probably be the favorite instead of the underdog. Be patient just a little longer guys. It’s all gonna be allright in years to come.
