Examining Demers’ hit on Smyth

For those who haven’t seen it, here is the hit that San Jose’s Jason Demers delivered to Ryan Smyth in Game 1 last night. You can draw your own conclusion in terms of intention, severity and whether it is deserving of suspension…

After practice today, Demers told the San Jose Mercury News, “I may have left my feet but he was sort of falling back at the same time, so I sort of fell on top of him. It wasn’t as bad as it looked. … But he was fine getting up. I think he was just mad that I kind of tackled him.” That’s not asking the way Terry Murray described it, in the quotes that were posted earlier.
