Kings vs. Sharks: Looking back, looking ahead

The season series between the Kings and San Jose Sharks had a little bit of everything. Each team won three games (two of the Kings’ wins came in shootouts) and five of the six games were either tied or one-goal games going into the third period. The Kings went 1-2 in San Jose this season, although the lingering memory is of the Sharks’ 6-1 victory last week. For those seeking a memory refresher, here’s a look back at the game stories for the entire Kings-Sharks series, followed by Drew Doughty’s thoughts on the upcoming first-round series…

Nov. 15 — Sharks 6, Kings 3
Dec. 27 — Kings 4, Sharks 0
Jan. 1 — Sharks 1, Kings 0
Jan. 26 — Kings 3, Sharks 2 (SO)
March 24 — Kings 4, Sharks 3 (SO)
April 4 — Sharks 6, Kings 1

DOUGHTY: “We beat them there before. I think the game was 4-1 [actually 4-0] and we played a pretty dominant game, so there’s no reason why we can’t go there for that first game on Thursday and do the same thing. … They did (beat the Kings 6-1 this month). That was obviously a game that we want to forget about. We were there in the first period with them. It was tight, but once we got away from our game and our structure, they got a few on us and we kind of started to sit back, and that’s why they dominated the whole game and beat us so badly. But as long as we’re sticking to our system and sticking to our plan, I think we’ll be fine.”
