Bummed about losing tonight, but now I hope we actually meet Anaheim somehow in the playoffs. Not looking good right now until the 3rd round unless the bottom 4 advance in the first round (Which can happen, but highly unlikely).
Anaheim and their offense can take out a Vancouver or a San Jose, so this is not all bad. We need to win tomorrow, no if, ands or buts. At least a point, but 2 is pretty much a necessity right now.
What an intense 2nd half of a season! In 31 years as a fan, I don’t ever remember a 2nd half like this.

@Bkrs-Bud, I agree. Expectations are still high for me, but reality is also different looking at the offense without Kopi and Williams. Would sure love to get back Willy anytime soon. Good news is that the team made it without Kopi. Bad news is that the team will have to win in the playoffs without him. Anything can happen.
The 1980 US olympic hockey team was humiliated in a game against Russia 10-2 just before leaving on their historic run to a gold medal. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won’t. Just don’t quit, and give it everything you’ve got till it’s decided.

@Dominick, Ain’t no hiding in a 7 game series, a lot different than Olympics. Honestly, I don’t think our chances were all that great with Kopitar and Williams. We got a year or two before we’ll be in the elite. Whatever good happens for the rest of the year is just gravey. Just enjoy the rest of the season because the summers of boreball … err baseball is all we’ll have until the frozen fury.

I’m looking for a
Kings Win over the Ducks
San Jose Win over the Yotes
St Louis Win over the Preds
Dallas Win over the Wild
Detroit Win over Chicago… I know many of you want CHI to face VAN. I just DAL to make it in.
With those results here are the playoff match-ups:
1.VAN(117) vs 8.DAL(97)
2.SAN(105) vs 7.ANA(97)
3.DET(104) vs 6.PHX(99)
4.LAK(100) vs 5.NSH(99)

@Jay GoLAKings, Agree, but Nashville’s been on fire lately, hopefully St. Louis really wants to play spoiler to their division rivals. The Sharks have basically pulled the big choke job as usual, beating us then laughing in our face as they gave away points to the Dux and Yotes. They just better win tomorrow.

@Bailey Fan, NSH is a tough team to beat & all they need is 1 point out of this game to move into the 4th seed. Hopefully STL can do some FAN APPRECIATION at the Preds expense.
Then LA Kings can pull out their backup goalie to shut them down… What do ya think TM will decide for goalie in this series?
[Reply]
Kings can’t score goals! That’s another one goal game! They are not going to win if they can only score one goal. Plain and simple, the Kings are looking at an embarassing sweep

Expect to see a lot more of these type of tight low scoring games once the playoffs start. I love the boys, and most of them will bring the effort and heart and battle every game. But without our top 2 leading scorers and a PP that is TERRIBLE! our playoffs hopes are very slim if we’re seeded 7th or 8th.
Come on I’ve seen better PP in Pee Wee hockey! Our PP has been a JOKE all year and still nobody changes anything????
How is Kompon still with the team????

Great defense, great goaltending, unbelievable poor offense. The Ducks left two points on the table tonight and we just didn’t want them bad enough. We better win tomorrow. I figure one of Phoenix or Nashville HAS to lose one of their games, right? 4th or 5th seed is fine with me. I could live with 6th if we draw the slumping Wings.
And I’m really getting annoyed with how the Ducks PA announcer literally screams everything he says into the mic. And I can’t believe he actually says “OK fans GET LOUD” before a power play. And to the KDOC team, playing “Friday” during a commercial break is the most embarrasing thing to hockey since Tinkerbell congratulated the players.

@Doc.B, That would be bad news bears for us. The trick us into playing a speed/skill game (and we have neither).
[Reply]
Smyth and Moller cant be on a line together, cause Smyth constantly puts Moller into board-battle situations in which the little guy has no chance. Smyth needs to get the puck off the boards and out from behind the net and find Oscar in a quiet spot for a shot. He cant play a cycle game with you, Ryan!
Moller would be much better on a line that never tries to cycle and tries to make some plays. On the kings, Im not sure who that would be now; maybe with Stoll and Brown.
I agree Lewis has no finish but give him a shot on the PP cause he has SPEED which the PP forwards sorely lack. NO MORE Zus on the PP, he just gets trapped on the boards all the time cause he doesnt make plays quick enough.
And for the people defending Penner, yes, he would be much better on a skill like 9as he was with Williams and kopi) but we DONT HAVE THAT NOW, so adjust your game and contribute. Show some compete! No, we dont expect him to ‘carry the team’ but we DO expect him to fight for lose pucks, go full-speed to break up plays, and shoot when you have a damn chance!
The effort was there from most of the players (just not enough skill for many of them) and in that case i can live with a loss. They kept the Duck’s #1 line in check. Quick was good. We just cant have a few ‘veteran’ players who should be giving 110% to make up for the missing Kopi and JW not doing so. And stop dressing Westgarth! I mean, REALLY!

Hey Kings offense, start playing like your getting paid an insane amount of money to show up and win. I don’t know, maybe no one has suggested that. I’ve been a Kings fan since 1980-81, I lost interest in the mid 90′s and just returned this year. An exciting year to be sure. This team started the season on fire and was starting to get peoples’ attention, but I think things changed during that horrid home stand back in December. I think TM and his constant rearranging of the lines since then has not served the Kings well in the long run. The constant tinkering, not letting 3 guys work together long enough to find each other style has produced a lackluster offense that is lucky to score 3 goals in a game. We have talent, enough maybe to go far, but they just aren’t bringing it anymore. Maybe we’re just on empty after a long season. The prospects on beating Vancouver are not good. Chicago has eliminated VAN in the last two years. We have to win tonight or we will be gone in the first round. STOP TINKERING! I fear that advice it too late, cause we needed cohesive line mates for a while. We can’t fix this in a day. The boys sure re-awakened my passion for hockey this year. Heck, I even started playing hockey again (I’m 47).
[Reply]
Penner where the helll are youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!
You better show up playoff time. Like you did in 07.
Poor Moller, was to play with Kopi and now the couch is playing on the checking line…
He has the worst luck! He will get traded and play on top two lines on that team… Moller will never get that chance with the Kings just like Moulson now with NYI…

If Kings can’t score more then 3 goals a game in the playoffs, we are toast!

@Sammuch, They can’t even get 3! The last 6 games they’ve score either 1 or 2. The only reason we got 3 was because of a SO, which doesn’t prepare us for the playoffs. Of course we’ll score when the other team has no defense. I thought this was the year, but you have to be proud of the team for winning as much as they did after these injuries and after that horrible losing streak.
I am throwing in the towel. Say all you want, but this team will not do well in the playoffs.
[Reply]
@Sammuch, You said it! I’m sooo tired of people on this blog defending Penner. Nobody expects him to be our “savior” and carry this team, but with his size, skill, and salary he should not be practically invisible on the ice night in and not out. I can count on one hand the number of quality hits he’s had since he’s been here.

Did anyone else see the ridiculous ducks fan with his homemade posters? I couldn’t believe how preposterous and offensive they were. One poster had a picture of Jim Fox and Bob Miller that said “Dumb and Dumber” on it, and another had a picture of the Duck’s tv guys that said “Smart and Smarter.” Just wrong. Minutes later, when pregame warmups ended and Ryan Smyth was going to toss a puck to this young, lady Kings fan, an old guy in a Ducks polo runs up and cherrypicks it right out of the sky. To say she was pissed would be an understatement.

I don’t understand why so many negative posts. This place reeks of Junior High teen spirit. Whaaaaaambulance!
Kings played a hard game and had plenty chances to win. Compete was great.
Simmonds had a point blank four footer on a prone Ellis, Moller had two, made one on the unlucky net crash that didn’t count, several pipes were rung … All good stuff if you ask me.
We went into the building of a desperate team with the leagues leading scorer, two terrific scoring lines, and a big hot streak and made it a coin-flip game. I like our playoff chances if we can compete at this level in a seven game series.
Best of all, Murray knows what broke down last night and gave the Ducks an edge. That will be addressed today.
Good game, bad luck, bad result. We will be stronger tonight.

@Token, I think we’re mad because we can’t score more than 1 or 2 goals. Most NHL games are not won 1-0 or 2-1. In the new NHL you have to score to win. You really do. The best teams all have scoring. All of the last several cup winners had a few 30 goal guys and a half dozen 20 goal guys. The Kings two potential 30 goal guys got hurt. After that we realize the list runs thin.
[Reply]
Let’s be positive. Back to Back playoff seasons. Our goalie has posted 2 30 win seasons in a row and our back-up goalie is a potential no. 1 goalie. It was an ugly game, but that is how the playoffs will be. Tight defensive hockey with few scoring chances, great goaltending and hope you get the bounces in your favor.

@Lars P., To be positive. Two 40 win seasons in a row and two playoff berths is great. Quick is a top 5 goaltender and Bernier is a top 5 back up. Kopitar can hang in the top 10 centerman in the leeague. Brown is having a really good year. Smyth is almost gone. Handzus will be gone. Martinez had a great year. Simmonds rebounded a little. Stoll is better than everyone gave him credit for. Williams is signed at a fair price. Penner played well with Kopitar and Williams. Doughty’s concussion was not as bad as Crosby’s or any other guy’s. Johnson is re-signed. Things are pretty good. At least we haven’t been Florida for the last 15 years.
