Simmonds postgame quotes

Wayne Simmonds’ postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
SIMMONDS: “I think we could have done a better job, ourselves. We kind of let down in the last half of the game. We’ve got to get our focus for tomorrow night and get two points.”

(on Teemu Selanne’s game…)
SIMMONDS: “Selanne is a great player. He’s been hot this year. When you let him get a shot from the slot, you never know what’s going to happen, and tonight he got two.”

(on how to find more offense…)
SIMMONDS: “I think we’ve just got to stick to our structure. We’ve got to get pucks behind their D and cycle it and just bring pucks to the net and crash the net.”

(on the second-period struggles…)
SIMMONDS: “We kind of let our foot off the pedal, halfway through the game, and they came on strong and obviously that cost us.”

    @chuckrocks, The ONLY time I have EVER agreed with Brian Hayward on anything. It’s a confidence thing with Pens. Man, how can you not have confidence when you’re getting 4mil+/year to play hockey? I don’t get it either. Turn straight towards the net on that and get close and most likely we score.

    Dude better wake up.

    @Cynic,

    how much you get paid doesn’t have anything to do with how confident you are as a player. these two things are mutually exclusive. you get your confidence from the knowledge that you can play your game the way you know you can play it.

    @sid the kid, I disagree to an extent. When you hit a certain pay threshhold, you have been PROVEN to SOMEONE in the league that you can play. No need to wonder anymore. That works for guys making league minimum and just above, but when you hit paydirt on a fat contract, you have been told you can play.

    You can lose confidence, sure, but you have NO excuse to do so when you make what Penner Makes. In fact, I’m sure that is EXACTLY what Dean Lombardi would say after trading away assets to acquire Penner.

    Penner has the tools to provide offense. At some point he MUST play to his abilities AND his paygrade. Otherwise, he lets EVERYONE that is believeing in him down. Yes, that is pretty negative, but it’s also the truth. Excuses don’t win championships. A month ago, Pens was out of the playoffs. If he cares at all, he should be thanking his lucky stars and playing like he appreciates it.

    We need his DESPERATELY right now and he’s slackin.

    @Cynic, When a proven player in any sport seemingly underachieves, it turns out there is some injury issue invoved. Not bad enough to not play, but frequently bad enough to reduce effectiveness. Given the super secretive and macho culture of hockey, it’s possible Penner is in that situation. He is playing nowhere near his capability right now, and given the importance of every game, I’m sure he wants to play better. Maybe he just can’t right now. How many times in MLB do you see a proven pitcher who suddenly can’t get any body out, then it turns out after the season he had a jacked up elbow or something. Just sayin’, maybe Penner just can’t pull the trigger right now…I know everybody’s dinged up at this point of the season, but some types of injuries effect more then others.

    2 minutes in the third where you all played sloppy. What was that backhand pass to the slot anyway?!?! That started the 2 minute debachle that ended with the GWG by Selanne on their breakaway.

    Whatever. We NEED to win tomorrow. I really don’t want SJ in the 1st round unless we’re getting Williams back.

    Any word on that Rich?

    @Matt Fig, Smyth scored our only goal tonight man. Finally. We know what we get with him.

    The other two though….well, can’t defend ‘em.

    I’d say what lies ahead is pretty simple. First of all we need to beat the Ducks tomorrow night because we do not want to begin the playoffs on a two game losing streak.

    And for the playoffs, though I don’t know how he’s going to do it seeing as how the Ducks treated him like he was child playing among men, but Moller is going to have to be stronger on the puck. Especially since the Kings play dump, chase, and try to cycle.

    It’s already been said countless times on this blog by countless posters, but Penner, if he is ever going to do anything for the Kings this season he needs to do it in the playoffs.

    Since we have such anemic scoring by our forwards, we are going to have to have some scoring from the defense.

    And finally, we are going to have to play virtually mistake free hockey or we are going to be one round and out. However, it is the Stanley Cup Playoffs and anything can happen in the playoffs. It would be a very nice time for everyone to bring their “A” game.

    I’m assuming tomorrow’s game will be jerseys off the back night… which means, Kopitar will be in the building and will give his jersey to a lucky fan. I hope the roof comes off for him when his name is announced. The old saying is always true, you never truly appreciate something until its gone! This whole situation must be absolutely devastating for him, probably why we haven’t heard from him at all to this point – well at least here in Canada, I haven’t.

    fact is he doesn’t like to talk to canadians because…well, you know…

    @Matt Fig, Right on….stick a mic in Penners face and ask him if he feels confident with his game because 2.5 million fans DON’T

    Good game tonight Simmers. Would have liked to have seen that scoring chance go in, but the good news is you didn’t let Perry get 51, 52, or 53.

    @Dominick,
    He made at least 3 very bad turnovers tonight, one of em that high in the o-zone giveaway, and 2 right at our own blueline while we’re trying to get out and had players moving up the ice past him. I wouldn’t exactly say good game. I don’t really remember any good plays but that’s probably because everyone remembers the negative outcomes. Either way, it would be a mixed rating.

    Simmonds stunk tonight.WTF was that blind backhand pass? His constant failure to ONCE AGAIN get the puck into the offensive zone on numerous times drove me nuts all night.

    @Steve McQueen, simmer is not going to be on the kings next year, right now he is 4 th line talent, has regressed, simmer will be lucky to sign a 1 year deal for 500 k , tonight he gets like a brain cramps, giving away the puck. TERRY M not happy with simmer
