There is no one that deserves more within this organization than Bob Miller. I would even argue that he is more important in this organization than Luc Robitaille. The greatest tragedy this organization will ever endure is if we fail to win the cup while we have him. Pure class.

P.S. Did I spot Foxy with unstyled hair?!?!!? *GASP*

@jet, I’d put money that if the Kings win, Dustin Brown will use his cup day, for a fan thing, where people can get up close with it, and they will give Bob Miller a day with the cup.

Bob Miller seems like he keeps things old school. when hes broadcasting he makes it seem so easy. when you hear others do play by play they seem to struggle or they just dont have that spark that Bob has. Glad hes been the voice of the kings for so long, i really enjoy watching games with his play by play. GKG

great video, and nice cameo Rich. pretty nice that they have a buffet in the media room. i wonder if other arenas are the same.

    [Reply]

    ziggy Reply:

@Sebastian, generally, yes (if not full-on buffet, some type of spread). In the late ’90s I was in the media department of an organization that played in the old Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey, and the pre-game spread was just basic sandwiches and the like. You should have seen the mark-up Aramark charged on everything, though. As I recall from the invoices, a submarine sandwich (could feed probably 8-10 people) was $90, typical fruit platter was $50, a normal bag of chips like you’d find in the grocery store was $7.50, 2 liter bottles of (generic label) soda were $5, and so on, plus crazy service charges on top of that. Was a huge racket, but they had the catering rights to the arena regardless of who played (Devils, Nets, arena football, concerts, etc.). In most of the other arenas we traveled to at the time, it was a similar set-up (hot buffet or cold cuts). Perhaps Rich can give us a peek at the kind of pre-game food the journos get at Staples?

    Happy Lappy Reply:

@Sebastian, when I was with AP covering the Kings at the Forum, they had the buffet down at ice level in an area set up for the media. they also had a media lounge on the level where the VIP’s used to enter (canopy over the doorway). Sometimes I would get there at around 5:00 and there would be Bernie Nicholls sitting by himself at a table watching the early games from the East and commenting on the great shots or saves, etc. Bernie just loved the game and admired all who played it.

ATTENTION ALL VEGAS RESIDENTS: I have checked with the sports book at Green Valley Ranch and they will be televising the game. I also made a reservation for 2 at the Palazzo Lagasse stadium sports bar, now, I hate going to the strip on Friday or any day for that matter, however, I was wondering who in Vegas wants to get together at one of those 2 places, or somewhere else. As for the Lagasse bar, it is by reservation only and u must have food there, the good news is u have a TV at your table. You can respond here or on my email jwlindsey@gmail.com. Lets get this thing going. P.S.I’m sure I could change the party of to whatever number if we go there. It’s set for 6:30 right now. Jerry

Bob is just flat out awesome. Great guy, even better announcer. A legend in every sense. Very cool vid!

“Eating Again?” Rich is a pretty svelte guy, so it’s good to know he packs it away. Can’t be too concerned about ‘The Piece’ in the blogging world.

What’s with the Coke placement in these things anyway? Rich’s Undisputed ‘Gold’ segment had a Diet Coke in there, Bob’s eating scene had a Coca-Cola in front of him….I hope they’re paying you for that product placement, otherwise, you’re doing them a big favor. ;-)

To see Bob Miller still going strong after all these years, what an inspiration. The prep time and organization is just phenomenal and shows you that it requires talent and experience to do what both Bob and Foxy do. So if you think these guys just “wing it” every game…

Was that a piece of Canadian Bacon on your sleeve Rich?

    @SaveByCechmanek,

You nailed it. One word- Bob Miller and Foxy are PROFESSIONALS. Their job approach is amazingly high. How spoiled have we been in L.A. with Bob, Vin, Chick, etc.? I can’t imagine anyone else being the voice of the Kings or Dodgers. Newsflash Bob, the Kings have revoked your retirement benefits, so you now have to televise the Kings forever :)

Also, I’m fairly sure Rich knows Bob well enough now to give Bob a noogie for giving him flack like that on camera. What do you think, Rich?

The team needs to win a Cup for Bob! Total professional, incredible pre-game prep, no wonder he is so smooth and easy to listen to when he is doing the game. I have mentioned this before, but I swear that Rich is in training to take Bob’s job. Everywhere Bob was, there was Rich! Coincidence? I say not! Enjoy tonight off Bob but everyone will miss your call of the game tonight.

Was at the Yotes game Wednesday night and just happened to run into Bob. He is a very sweet man who took the time to chat with my 10 year old daughter who is a huge KIngs fan along with her dear old Dad. After the game we hung out at Star Plaza while Foxy and Patrick did the post game show. Afterwards they too took the time to chat with us and sign my daughters sweater and pose for pictures. Everyone I have ever met who works for the Kings organ-eye-zation is very kind and is willing, if not eager, to spend a few short minutes with us fans. Thanks to all of you and GKG!!! No. 4 Los Angeles would clinch the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference if …
    • It defeats Anaheim AND Nashville loses to Columbus in regulation AND Phoenix loses to San Jose in regulation.

Huge game just got Huger. If they win tonight and get a little help, they can take it semi-easy on Saturday.

As stated previously, we are truly spoiled by having Bob and Jim, and Nick and Daryl. I wish there was a way to pause the radio broadcast tonight until the video on the tv caught up so I didn’t have to listen to the Schmucks announcers – ugh.

This is gonna be a bit long winded but back in 93-94 my buddy and I got season seats for the Kings they were $10 seats but we were happy to have them. The next year we decided not to renew so the Kings invited us and other season ticket holders that didn’t renew to a pre game dinner and treated us to a game against Detroit. At the time I was 22 and a pretty heavy drinker so I showed up smashed to this pregame dinner and guess who is seated next to me and my buddy ? None other than Bob Miller and his beautiful wife.

So the smashed drunkard that I was began to mark-out to Bob and of course since he is seated right next to me he is forced to sit through my drunken stupidity. Through the whole dinner he and his wife were beyond cordial and extremely friendly eventhough most others would have gotten up and walked away he never said a bad word and never lost his charm. I’m sorry for putting him through it but the point of the story is Bob Miller is ALL CLASS and he deserves to call the game when the Kings lift the cup.
