Loved Clifford’s play tonight and his CLEAN hit on the Nucks player. That just made my night

@longsufferingkingsfan, Doughty has become what JJ was…a turnover machine. For every good offensive play he does, he delivers at least 2 costly or near costly turnovers. It’s incredible. He has the skills but tries too hard…its like he wants to be THE highlight of the game with his twirling and it has really backfired more often than not.

I think it’s more that he realizes that with the loss of Kopi and JW, we need someone with his skill set to step up and help out offensively.

That was tough to watch last night after the 1st period.
Other than Doughty attempting to make something happen offensively, the rest of the offense was truly OFFENSIVE!
I was concerned for a bit that Brown had gotten hurt and wasn’t playing..he was that invisible. Does anyone know if he got credited with a hit all night?
As incredible as Brown and Lewis were last game is as bad as they were last night.
If I’m not mistaken, the goal at the end of the 2nd period wasn’t Doughty’s fault, it was Lewis for not staying above the play…He was the high forward who allowed guys to get behind him..Very poor play at a very bad time.
It wasn’t just those 2 that were horrible, it was pretty much every one of the forwards. Poni disappeared..Penner, Moller, Zues were terrible. I haven’t been impressed with Penner’s play and have been even less impressed with Moller’s play. Moller’s a skilled forward..make a damn play using some skill kid.
Overall a very disappointing effort last night..especially in the 3rd. I thought the game was poorly officiated, but we didn’t lose because of the officials.
Oh well, game over. next game is huge…We can pretty much put Dallas away and secure a playoff spot with a win on Saturday. Hopefully the boys learn something from this game as far as competing against the best without your best..they sure didn’t do it last night.
GO KINGS!

@nykingfan, the Kings ran into a good team. The ‘Nucks are no.1 in just bout everything PP, PK, you know the drill. I thought the Kings hung with them pretty well till the 3rd. Seems like the ‘Nucks goal with a second left took the steam out of us. But you’re right, Penner was non-existant, don’t know what was up with Brown, every time he got the puck he lost it in his skates. I thought Zeus played OK, Drew tried to make too much happen and it cost us. Basically though, we got beat by the best team in the league.

@Goring 19,
No question that is the bezt team in the league. Doesn’t seem like a good matchup for us in the 1st round, that’s for sure.
It was going to be tough to win every game down the stretch.
The next game in my mind, is the biggest game of the season to date. If we beat Dallas, we put them far back in our rearview mirror and can look forward to setting ourselves up for playoff seeding.

@nykingfan, It’s cool NY,I think I need them to,correction on what I saw, acually Smyth was skating right next to DD,either DD should have shot the puck or passed it to Smyth(I think that Smyth probably thought thatwas going to happen, that’s why he didn’t take DD spot) oh well miss-communication,so I’ll give DD only half the blame.Yeah it sucks getting old,I’ll be 50 in August.
Unreal all the whinning about DD who played his rear off. Both of those goals were savable by Quick and he just didn’t.
Was proud how the boys competed. I thought Westy has improved his game by a very large margin. Looking better all the time.
Brown disappointed me a heck of a lot more than DD. Simmonds has had fewer good game this season than I’ve got fingers. Don’t have any idea what happened to him this season, but his forecheck has gotten weaker this year and he seems to have lost his edgeiness. Lewis played well and Smyth was okay.
Richardson played one of his better games of the season.
Clifford played okay, but I didn’t like his finish on that 5 minute major, but I did like the fact that Clifford basically said … you take a run at our guy (Zues) then you are gonna get run yourself. You just can’t do that in this league any more however without throwing any chance of getting back in the game right out the window. Clifford could very well get suspended for that hit.
We played the best in the league and we really weren’t out of it until there was a 2 minute minor slapped on top of a 5 minute major. Not horrible, but a loss is a loss.

@KC23, Great Post, and I am not reading all the other posts for time reasons, but i would like to add, the Canucks are the best cheaters in the league, goalies throwing sticks at pucks (saved a certain goal by the kings)and the most powder puff cheating flops from hits that i have ever seen, you would have thought Greener shot that player with a shotgun and the penalty by doughty for a high stick was probably the least offensive thing we did all night yet he gets a penalty. But still, Luongo doesnt throw his stick, we score and go up 2-0 and perhaps the entire game changes. Good job Kings! I would have no problem playing this team in a 7 game series.

@thustable,
Respectfully I disagree. DD’s play is better than the average defenseman, maybe even better than most top end defenseman in the league. I think most people critisize him because he’s not playing Norris trophy caliber, which we all know he’s capable of playing.
It’s been well documented that DD and JJ will be counted on to try and spark the offense from the blueline in a little more than normal. That means that every once in a while plays like last night, where he gets caught trying to make a play, are going to happen. When you consider the team we were playing, and the guy who read the play and created the turnover, it’s understandable why sometimes he’s going to get burned. That was an excellent read to turn the puck around and get an outnumbered attack, by an excellent player.
Can’t fault DD for doing whats been asked of him. We need the offense and I expect JJ, Martinez, Mitchell, and even DD, to do what they can offensively. We are going to be burned for it a little more than we did before, but hopefully it generates more offense than it allows.

A loss by Dallas yesterday means the Kings magic number is 6 points. Any points less than 2 Dallas does not get combined with any points the Kings do get and the Kings are in the playoffs.
We beat Dallas in regulation Saturday and the magic number is 2 points with 4 King game remaining. Dallas game is the biggest game left in the schedule. A lot may be riding on it.
[Reply]
Okay, we lost last night. Yes, the refs s@#%ed big time. DD made a couple of mistakes (that will happen when yu have been asked to generate more offense which means taking chances). Yes, the Vancouver fans are completely strange (if one of those green guys climbs on the glass like that at Staples, they should be removed for violating arena policy). But guess what – we played the best team in the league in their house and we pretty much were even with them until the last second of the second period. WE CAN DO THIS! We can hang with anyone even without Kopi and JW.
2 questions – was Brown ineffective last nght because therir defense focused on him? Also, why did the arena staff roll out the protection tunnel for the refs at the end of the game (probably to protect them from all the flowers and dollar bills the fans were going to throw at them)?
Lets beat Dallas on Saturday, basically lock down our position in the top 8, and then work on getting the hghest seed possible. GKG!

Couple of those 1st period calls against the Canucks were laughable and Quick got away with tripping big time. Missing the goalie throwing the stick Vs Richardson was huge.

Don’t know about you guys but I almost feel sorry for those people who put on those absurd green things. Do they actually have a life outside of hockey games? Oh well. For their sake they’d better hope the Nucks win the cup after all that cause if they don’t they ain’t gonna be too terribly happy are they?
And actually if I were the owner of a team, no way would I even permit our fans to do something that is so sort of beneath the level of the game. I mean, can you imagine the Islanders of the 80′s having fans do that sort of nonsense?

I’m beginning to wonder if Dean Lombardi is going to file a missing persons report with the LAPD to find Dustin Penner. When he wasn’t invisible, he was soft as butter last night. I can see why Edmonton fans were thrilled with what they got for him. That guy has got to start producing now.

Of course your offense is going to take a hit when you lose two of your top scorers. I’ve watched every minute of every Kings game this season, but I can see the writing on the wall. If the Kings make it out of the first round of the playoffs, it will be a miracle.
Dean will pick a good free agent, Kopitar and Williams will be back, and Schenn will be with the team. Next year looks great.

Can DL please (in 2012) draft a high-scoring forward for once? I think the Kings have plenty in the cupboard for defensemen. Need some more pop on offense (obviously)
‘Nucks look unstoppable but look at what happened to the Caps last year! I think Chi could beat them in the 1st round.

I agree with all your points, except the miracle part. Depending on the match up, I still feel were going to be a team to be feared. Right now is kind of the pre-season to the real season, and I’m looking at these games as a tune up to getting adjusted to losing Kopi, and Willy. Things are definately up in the air though, even as to wether or not we’ll even make the post season. I’m still optimistic that we’ll make it and do well regardless of the adversity.
@Mass Kings Fan,
DL has stated that, that is exactly the plan. I think he’ll start spending the next few years trying to target, draft, and develope higher quality offensive draft picks.

One thing for sure, I don’t know if Russell Brand has been telling you about next year’s free agents, but really no one there for the Kings. There are mainly centers (Kings have a few of those w Kopi coming back And Schenn and Lokti in the pipeline) and defensemen. Kings also have a few of those. We don’t need a goaltender and we don’t need defensemen.

I am as disappointed as the rest of you over the loss last night, because every game is huge right now.
The amount of frustration being expressed surprises me though considering it was a game hardly any of us expected to win. Can we try to keep in mind that this was only our 2nd game trying to compensate for the loss of JW and Kopi, and against the best team in the league in every catagory. Next game they will do better.
After taking the time to read all the comments from last night, I think this one sums it up best for me.

A lot of talk about DD costing us a goal or two… IMO, sure, doughty definately tried to be to fancy and had a turnover for a 3-2 that lead to a soft shot from the top of the point. But, DID NOT cost us the game by any means.
1. Quick should have had the first two goals stopped – way out of poisition
2. On our crap second goal, there was no forward backing up Drew when he was entering the zone
However, DD, gave us the opportunity to score our only goal with a great pass to Clifford.
Bottom line is, DD did not cost us the game. We blew it as a team. Not much of anything going on after that 0.9 second goal. We looked completely deflated in the third. Not even 1 fricken shot on goal. (Funny seemed Luongo was doing a lot of slipping around for nothing).
Some BS calls –
1. Luongo throwing his stick – Penalty shot
2. Zus, did not have the puck – questionable interference against the Canucks
3. Clifford – 5 Min major – Canuck saw it coming (should have been 2 min)
4. Greene cross check – Canuck completey dove (if anything should have gone against canucks for diving)
Hey refs, don’t always get it right… LOL. Fans start yelling refs you suck and we start getting pinched. Or so it seemed.
Bottom line is we were out played. You can’t win a game against a “top team” scoring 1 goal.
Just a funny thought, I thought Westgarth, yes #19, 4th line winger, had a better game than Penner, our #1 winger. Our 4th line was our only thing going last nite.

As I thought, my posts right after the game have been deleted, but I was pretty hot at the time!
Now that I’ve cooled a bit and dreamt that I strangled those green things with my bare hands, I can say a few things about last nights game:
1) The honeymoon is over for Moller, Penner, and Zus on that top line. Mole got pushed around all night and even when he had time and space he gave up the puck with TO after TO. Penner, I think I saw him for one shift all night. And Zus is just a step behind his linemates, and after that hit, he might be two steps slow.
2) DD let his emotions get the better of him. Everyone has said he can’t be blamed for the TO’s that led directly to goals, but I have to call BS on them. First TO, he was skating backwards and then tried to muscle a pass 3/4 of the width of the ice when there were 2 caschmucks between him and the receiver. Not a smart play, he should have sent to the other dman at the point or just got it deep. Second TO, and I posted this at the time, he took the puck TOO DEEP and then had to lateral it into traffic. His momentum was taking him away from the play to begin with. He should have launched it into traffic when everything was still IN FRONT of him. In his defence, he probably thought there wasnt enough time for VAN to make anything of the TO, but we all know they did. Last thing about DD: I wish he would’ve smashed that cashmuck into the boards at the end of the game. If you’re going to let your emotions get the better of you, then go all out and make it worth your while. Make it a bench clearing affair.
3) Our 4th line really showed me something last night. Best line by FAR! Way to go Ritchie, Westy and Cliffy!!
4) Those refs need to be left off of the playoff rotation list!!!
5) We’ll be back next game and GKG!!!

If you dont’t shoot you don’t score. Terry Ruskowski. No shots in third is why we lost! Shoot from center ice get a lucky bounce

I have faith that the kings can still make a run if they play the way they did last night. Yeah Doughty did turnover two pucks that both resulted in goals, but Quick needed to step up as well. Did you see that huge hit Doughty put on Sedin. Kings were finishing checks and and really had good momentum especially in the first period. I mean cmon guys, the cunucks are the best team in the NHL, and we are without our big guns and yet it was still a good game. Besides Vancouver is not unbeatable, we just have to hope someone else knockz them out before we play them in the playoffs.
P.S. DUSTIN PENNER IS HORRIBLE!!! Trade him as soon as possible next season. I expected great things when we got him. Now i realize this guy is just a bump on a log. Who could we trade for him?
[Reply]
Vancouver just won the Presidents trophy…..they are the best team in the league for a reason and we simply got beat by a much better team….end of story!
Of concern…
Love what DD did last night. Hated what DD did last night. Dude…find the right balance before the playoffs start!
Is Penner still on the team…he seems to have disappeared over the last 4 or 5 games.
The Moller experiment is over. He is trying way to hard and still might night be ready for the NHL or first line minutes.
With Richardson’s play of late, he deserves a shot up on the first line at Center or RW.
Simmer…we need you!
Lets put the nail in the coffin against Dallas Saturday…GKG

@KingsOfComedy, Mole had more hits than DB… not a very physical game on our part, but it’s tough to hit what you can’t catch.

The mistakes by DD caused the 3rd period implosion. Also assisted by biased zebras out there. Overall, except for the DD mistakes and the later bad calls, the Kings held their own against the Kerschmucks. And boy do they play dirty, as if they truly expect to not get called each and every time. It’s OK to take cheap shots from Corey Perry cause at least you have a chance that it will get called. Not in Canada. And # 25, what’s his name again? I never hear it so I forget, is one big waste. Oh, and the hit by DD on Red Martian was clean. From behind nonsense all over the Canadian tabloids.
Keep chargin’ boys!

@crashin’ da net, I personally loved the hit, but DD got more air than Drew Griffin over the car. DD’s lucky if he doesn’t get a call from Colin Campbell today.

Anyone seen or heard from JJ…? that pairing of him and Scud haven’t a thing in the last 20 games.. both of them NEVER take the body.. Why? they refuse to hit anyone. it’s painful to watch. and i know he was due for a stinker but DB was either sick or nursing a new injury last night. the fact that Foxy didn’t point that out means something might be wrong with our captain… he looked like Penner’s protege last night. not one hit… out of position, no jump. I say it must be the flu… i hope it’s the flu, cause if he goes down, we’re golfin’ soon, boys!!! I hope VAN gets upset early, cause that’s a team on a mission that is clearly defined. NOW HIT SOMEONE JACK, PLEASE!!! and i’m glad Cliffy took that run… if we’re not gonna try to win the game then at least let’s hurt one of there’s.. too bad it wasn’t a Sedin.

honestly we shouldnt even be trippin. they got beat for the first time in a few games by the best team in the west, heck maybe in the whole league. it waws bound to happen sooner or later. we just cant afford another loss on Saturday. i already miss Kopi and Williams. I like how doughty tried to step up offensively. we need that. Where is DUSTIN PENNER? has anyone seen him recently? oh and where is Oscar Moeller? hes been invisible the past two games now. one more thing, can someone please tell Stoll to take some of those sniper shots he uses in the SO in the actual game. I always wonder why i dont see Stoll score more goals. he obvioously has one of the best shots in the league. USE IT IN A GAME BOSS! WE need to try to score more goals that were like Vans first goal. Ginger takes the puck at the hashmarks i believe and doesnt just shoot into traffic. He gets the puck toe drags it then fires. we need to try that. all i ever see from kings is shots from the outside or from the point. anyways sorry for the rant i just needed to get that out. GO KINGS GO!!!!!

sounds like the sniper we all know we need and don’t have… to be addressed by DL I’m almost certain.

@Stuart, this is very true sir. i know we have some snipers. take Stoll for example. such a wicked snap shot. what goalie has he not beat with that thing? im just sad he can never do it in regulation. how silly of me to think penner could be the missing link to out offense. LOL missing link. that works both ways. LOL

@OC Hip Check,
Yeah we have the guys telegraphing these roof ticklers from stationary positions @ the point which so often get blocked. Need to get up some speed and snap off some stealthy wristers.

@jess Speed is the key word here. it seemed like everyone on vancouver was faster than our fastest guy. and please someone hit someone!!! i saw the Wahhnucks throwing the body all night. I hate seeing our guys getting knocked off the puck. Moeller for example. i dont remember how many times he got bumped on the boards and lost the puck.
I’m wondering is bernier going to start in net against dallas?

@jess, im starting to hope so. the first two looked like they were stopable. Quick makes some amazing saves dont get me wrong, but he lets in the softys. I would like to see Bernier get more playing time. i love quickie though. im torn between who i like more. Bernier just seems a little more confident.
