Some notes from last night’s game… – The Kings had their season series against the Anaheim Ducks evened up when Corey Perry scored in overtime to give the Ducks a 2-1 victory Saturday night at Staples Center. – With two games remaining in the season series, the Kings and Ducks have split their four games. [...]
The view from Anaheim
It’s increasingly likely that the two-game, home-and-home series at the end of the regular season will have playoff implications for the Kings or Anaheim Ducks, if not both teams. Four games into the six-game season series, the Kings have two regulation wins while the Ducks have one regulation win and one overtime win. The Ducks [...]

Mitchell postgame quotes
Willie Mitchell’s postgame thoughts… MITCHELL: “We played really well tonight. We had a bad bounce on the first goal and we just couldn’t beat [Ray] Emery. We played exactly how we want to play. If we play like that, more times than not we’ll get the results we want. We get a point, we lose in OT against a [...]
Quick postgame quotes
Jonathan Quick’s postgame thoughts… (on the playoff-like feel of the game…) QUICK: “Absolutely. It was a physical game. Both teams played well. We created a lot of opportunities. Ems [Ducks goalie Ray Emery] played really well for them. It was just unfortunate, the way it ended up.” (on whether he got a piece of Perry’s [...]
Murray postgame quotes
Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) MURRAY: “The guys played hard today. It was a good game. I liked everything that was going on. Right from the very start of the game, there was a playoff-like atmosphere. The building was alive, and both teams came to compete hard. I thought we had an excellent third period. We [...]
FINAL: Ducks 2, Kings 1
The Ducks won the game when Corey Perry scored 1:32 into overtime on a counterattack. Perry took a pass from Cam Fowler, skated into the Kings’ zone and took a slap shot from the top of the right circle that deflected off Quick’s glove and into the net.
End of regulation: 1-1
The Kings got the period’s only goal and outshot the Ducks 32-22 in regulation.
Kings 1, Ducks 1
After five consecutive scoreless periods, the Kings broke through seconds after the end of a power play in the middle of the third period. Alexei Ponikarovsky, behidn the net, pushed the puck to Michal Handzus in the corner. Handzus, with his back to the net, whipped a backhand pass to the front of the net [...]
End of second: Ducks 1-0
The Kings actually beat Ray Emery once in the second period, but Wayne Simmonds’ apparent goal was disallowed when on-ice officials ruled that Alexei Ponikarovsky interfered with Emery, even though Ponikarovsky got pushed by Luca Sbisa. The Kings outshot the Ducks 13-8 in the second period and will be on the power play for the [...]
End of first: Ducks 1-0
Shots were 8-8 in the first period, as the Ducks got the only goal. The Ducks were 0-for-1 on the power play and the Kings were 0-for-2.
Ducks 1, Kings 0
The Ducks took a 1-0 lead with 4:36 remaining in the first period. After a faceoff win, Dan Sexton fed a pass onto the stick of Brandon McMillan. McMillan got around Jack Johnson, who tried to poke the puck free, then beat Quick from close range.
Scouting the Ducks
The NHL’s schedule-makers definitely made the correct call last summer. Tonight’s game is the first of three meetings between the Kings and Anaheim Ducks over the final three weeks of the regular season, and with both teams fighting for playoff spots, the stakes are high. Ducks coach Randy Carlyle typically does not announce his goalie [...]
Clifford status update
To follow up on the earlier note, here’s what Terry Murray said today about Kyle Clifford’s status. Clifford left Thursday’s game late in the first period after a fight, with what Murray later described as a head injury. Clifford did not practice yesterday or today and is not scheduled to play tonight… MURRAY: “I talked [...]
Power-play time not plentiful of late
It will be interesting to see how the special-teams game plays out tonight. Anaheim enters the game with the NHL’s fourth-best power-play, in terms of success rate, and is ranked 22nd in penalty-kill percentage, but the Kings have had only one power play in each of their last two games. Of course, power-play chances are [...]
Penner gets a different look at rivalry
Dustin Penner will get to see the other side of the Kings-Ducks rivalry for the first time tonight. Penner spent his first two seasons with the Ducks before signing with the Edmonton Oilers in 2007. While with Anaheim, Penner played 10 games against the Kings, with three goals and four assists, and had a personal [...]
Odd incident at Staples Center
For those attending tonight’s game, don’t be surprised if there’s some extra security. Apparently, an odd scene took place before today’s game between the Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers, as a knife-wielding man got onto the court and was shot by police with rubber bullets after a 20-minute standoff. Reports indicate that there were no injuries, [...]
Goalie situation going according to plan
Jonathan Quick will make his 51st start of the season tonight. After tonight, the Kings have 10 games remaining, including one set of back-to-back games and one two-game road trip, so it’s reasonable to assume that, if things continue as planned, Quick will end up with 59 regular-season starts. That’s exactly where Terry Murray wanted [...]
Saturday skate update
No changes or surprises based on today’s morning skate. There is, however, a potentially good update on Kyle Clifford and his head injury. Terry Murray said Clifford rode a stationary bike today and “feels really good,” other than the black eye he suffered in the fight on Thursday. Murray said Clifford will visit with a [...]
Morning with Justin Williams
Today’s morning skate is right around the corner. If you’ve ever wondered what a game morning is like for a player, here’s a glimpse. The folks at Kings Vision crashed Justin Williams’ house one morning this season and got his thoughts on what game day is like. Special cameos by Heidi Androl, Matt Greene and [...]
