Stoll postgame quotes

Jarret Stoll’s postgame thoughts… (on the win…) STOLL: “It’s pretty big right now, especially with nine games left. They keep getting bigger and bigger. The points mean more and more, and we needed those two points, for sure. We didn’t want to give them one, or two, but it was what it was, and we [...]

Williams `not OK’ after check

Kings winger Justin Williams left the game with just under 10 minutes remaining in the third period, after being checked into the boards by Calgary’s Robyn Regehr. Williams skated off, slightly doubled over and went directly to the locker room, not to return to the game or the bench. “Williams is not OK, no,” Terry [...]

FINAL: Kings 2, Flames 1 (SO)

Shootout results… Kings: Handzus, poke save. Flames: Tanguay, GOAL. Kings: Stoll, GOAL. Flames: Bourque, goal post. Kings: Kopitar, GOAL. Flames: Glencross, wide. More from the locker room to come…

End of regulation: 1-1

Shots were 26-24 in favor of the Kings in regulation, and both teams now head to overtime for a second consecutive game. The Kings lost to Anaheim in overtime on Saturday, and the Flames lost to Anaheim in overtime last night.

Kings 1, Flames 1

The Kings broke the scoreless tie with 5:52 remaining in the third period. Wayne Simmonds did a good job of keeping the puck alive behind the Calgary net, and into the corner, and Simmonds pushed the puck to the top of the left circle. Kiprusoff made the save on Brad Richardson’s shot, but Jarret Stoll [...]

End of second: 0-0

The Kings picked up the pace late in the second period and outshot the Flames 10-8 in the period. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play in the period. The Kings will be on the power play for the first 1:23 of the third period.

End of first: 0-0

Shots were 6-5 in favor of the Flames in the first period. The Flames went 0-for-2 on the power play and the Kings went 0-for-1.

Scouting the Flames

Beware the wounded, angry team… The Calgary Flames sit in 10th place in the Western Conference and are coming off a frustrating overtime loss to Anaheim last night. Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff was pulled after he allowed three goals in the first six minutes, and then the Flames rallied from a 3-0 deficit, took a [...]

Is there a psychic in the house?

What is the magic number of points needed to make the playoffs in the Western Conference? Right now, it’s on track to be 97. For a while, the Kings worked under the premise that it would be 95. That was reasonable, given that in the first five post-lockout seasons, the eighth-place teams in the Western [...]

Not lighting the lamp at home

Depending on how far you want to go back, the Kings’ recent results at home have either been average or ugly. The Kings are 0-2-2 in their last four home games and 5-3-2 in their last 10 road games. That’s 12 points in their last 10 home games, comparable to the last 10-game home stretches [...]

`Brawler’ Clifford not concerned with status

Kyle Clifford certainly got in his work today. Clifford was on the ice for the entire morning skate, then stayed out for about a half-hour of conditioning skating with healthy scratches Davis Drewiske and Peter Harrold. By all indications, Clifford isn’t suffering from any type of concussion symptoms, which is the most important thing, and [...]

Flames always bring some heat

There typically isn’t much breathing room between the Kings and Calgary Flames. The Kings are 2-1 against the Flames this season, including a 3-1 loss in the second game of the season (the third Flames goal going into an empty net), followed by a 2-1 Kings win at Staples Center on Dec. 9 and a [...]

Monday skate update

No surprises or changes coming out of today’s morning skate. Kyle Clifford completed the practice, and some intense post-practice skating, without any issues. Afterward, he said he isn’t experiencing any headaches or problems, so as of now Clifford’s chances of playing Thursday would seem good. More notes and quotes to come…

Clifford back on ice

As he and the Kings had hoped, Kyle Clifford is back on the ice for today’s morning skate. Clifford is still not expected to play tonight, but his on-ice presence today certainly increases his chances of playing Thursday. More updates from the skate to come…

What is your preferred jersey?

The Kings concluded their three-game “Legends Night” series last night, with a nice tribute to former player and coach Bob Pulford. It seems that the vintage purple-and-gold jerseys will go into mothballs for a while now. This has been a very poorly kept secret, but the Kings are likely to change their primary uniforms next [...]

Kyle Clifford update

Kyle Clifford stood and watched most of practice today, his left eye still a nasty shade of purple and slightly swollen, but Clifford was able to do off-ice workouts today and apparently is not suffering from any concussion symptoms right now. Terry Murray’s hope is that Clifford will be able to return for Thursday’s home [...]

Will you go all in?

A reminder that the Kings’ “Rivalry Hold `em Poker Challenge” will be held on April 7 at the San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino in Banning, near San Bernardino. The charity even has a $25 buy-in, and the nature of the competition — other than the poker itself — is to see whether the Kings [...]

Will offense come from center swap?

The Kings tweaked their lineup a bit today, with center Michal Handzus and Jarret Stoll changing lines. Handzus played a strong game last night against Anaheim — including a brilliant centering pass to Dustin Brown for the third-period, game-tying goal — and after practice today, Terry Murray was single-minded in explaining why he made the [...]

Sunday practice update

Kyle Clifford will not be able to play tomorrow, but the hope is that he will be ready to return for Thursday’s game. Terry Murray said Clifford is not experiencing any headaches or problems, and that he expects Clifford back on the ice in the next couple days. Jonathan Quick will get the start tomorrow. [...]

Sunday practice; center swap

Kyle Clifford is not on the ice for practice, and centers Michal Handzus and Jarret Stoll have swapped spots. Here’s how the forwards are skating… Penner-Kopitar-Williams Smyth-Handzus-Brown Ponikarovsky-Stoll-Simmonds Richardson-Lewis-Westgarth
