Brown postgame quotes

Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) BROWN: “That was a roller coaster there, the last four minutes. We were up, holding a lead, we blow it, get it back and blow it again. It’s tough, but we had some good chances in overtime and took it to a shootout. I thought it was really [...]

Quick postgame quotes

Jonathan Quick’s postgame thoughts… (on getting two points after allowing the late regulation goal…) QUICK: “Obviously that’s what we’re trying to do every time out. It’s unfortunate, the way we finished up regulation. Obviously we’re trying to make a push, and that’s a team that we want to jump in the standings and try to [...]

Kings 3, Sharks 2

Kings 1, Sharks 1

The Kings got even in special teams, and on the scoreboard, with Dustin Brown’s power-play goal 7:18 into the second period. Alexei Ponikarovsky chased down a loose puck behind the net and pushed it to Brown, who was stationed to the right of the net. Brown swiped at the puck and beat Niemi from close [...]

The Kings had their run of 35 consecutive penalty kills ended 35 seconds into the second period, as the Sharks took a 1-0 lead. Scouting the Sharks

The San Jose Sharks certainly aren’t having problems scoring goals these days. The Sharks have won four consecutive games by a combined margin of 20-11 and have scored at least three regulation/overtime goals in seven of their last eight games. The Sharks are coming off a big 6-3 home victory over Calgary last night, a [...]

Big matchups ahead for Moller

In his first game since being called up, Oscar Moller will be in a high-profile role tonight, as the first-line right winger alongside Anze Kopitar and Dustin Penner. That could include a matchup against San Jose’s big-minute defensemen, Dan Boyle and Douglas Murray, “Playing against a fellow Swede, in Douglas Murray, maybe he will help [...]

Kings hope for best in Parse recovery

Scott Parse had a third consecutive day of post-practice skating today, but there’s no timetable for Parse’s possible return. Parse had started skating in early February, then had to stop two weeks later because of recurring pain in his surgically repaired hip. After he skated Tuesday, Parse said he’s still “not 100 percent,” but Parse [...]

Ticket update, and Doughty `Undisputed’

For those interesting in attending one (or both) of the “green room” nights — April 6 and April 9 — sit among fellow blog readers and enjoy free drinks and snacks and a hospitality room, there’s good news. The $10 handling fee has been waived, bringing the cost down to $128 for a 100-level ticket [...]

Strength vs. strength in special-teams battle

The Kings’ recent penalty-kill success will certainly be put to the test tonight. The Kings have not allowed a power-play goal in 10 consecutive games, but tonight they face a San Jose Sharks team that ranks third in the NHL in power-play efficiency and has been even better than that of late. The Sharks have [...]

The quest for the…crate?

In case anyone thinks there is no fun to be had during a tough hockey season, a very helpful reader named Philip passed this along. A few of the Kings have been participating in an informal 4-on-4 post-practice “tournament,” and it concluded yesterday with the team of Willie Mitchell, Davis Drewiske, Wayne Simmonds and Ryan [...]

Thursday skate update

No surprises or changes coming out of today’s morning skate. Kyle Clifford returns to the lineup in a fourth-line role, alongside Trevor Lewis and Brad Richardson, with Kevin Westgarth as the healthy scratch. Jonathan Quick starts in goal. More notes and quotes to come…

Prospects update: Toffoli, Vey lead leagues

Now that the major-junior and college hockey seasons are heading to their respective playoffs, it’s a good time to look at how the Kings’ prospects fared this season. In particular, it was a notable season for both Tyler Toffoli and Linden Vey. Toffoli, a second-round Kings draft pick last year, led the Ontario Hockey League [...]

Sharks swim to top of division

The Kings have faced the San Jose Sharks four times this season, but they shouldn’t bother studying the game film too closely. The Sharks were treading water for the first three months of season, but since Jan. 13 they have been on fire, with a 21-4-3 record that has carried them to the top of [...]
