@Rich, As far as the stat of the night goes, who cares. This is a game I wish LA had forfeited before it happened. There is no need for LA to play a classless team this close to the playoffs.
Rich, while you enlighten us on these useless stats, how is Zues doing? I didn’t see him take a shift after there dirty hit on him late in the game, just before the absurd Clifford call. A lose is a lose, but how is Zues???
[Reply]
they could have won this game. a couple of bad plays. The power play is the difference, without it we arent going to go far. Why is Kompon still around? Is Dustin Penner still on the team????

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?,
Doughtys pass was terrible, that goal changed the game. The Casucks transition on their second goal was a result of the kings D being caught up ice. Those goals changed the way the kings were playing. they had some confidence before those, they were taking more chances offensively and the D was strong. If you take away those two bad plays and throw in a PP goal its a different game. Our D is rock solid, we could win games with 1 or 2 5 on 5 goals and a pp goal but we have no PP, its a joke, kompon should have been fired long ago.

@kingfish,
I agree that our D is strong but I think sometimes certain pairings are a bit too offensively confident and get caught up too much and too deep in the offensive zone. I don’t want to take away from some of the D’s offensive power but they need to remember that they are D men and not making safe consistent plays defensively will get them in a lot of trouble. Especially in the playoffs!
When Luc talked about this year’s team breaking records, I don’t think this is one he had in mind.

Penner is not worth a penny. Not worth his value in the copper in a penny! Think Edmonton want you back!
[Reply]
Fortunately, very fortunately for the Kings, it’s beginning to look as if Dallas is going to join Calgary in dropping out of the playoff hunt. Even though the Canucks are the President’s Trophy winner, first in GAA, first in penalty killing, and have the No. 1 power play unit, that does not explain away the Kings not being able to muster a shot on goal in a third period that began with them down by only one goal. Am I am sorry, being without your No. 1 and No. 2 scorers does not explain away not being able to muster a shot on goal in the third period.
That stat, more than the loss, troubles me since their is no shame to being being by the No. 1 team in the league when you are missing your top guns. And they did hang in there with the Canucks for two periods.
Hopefully with a chance to drive a very serious nail into the coffins of the Stars on Saturday, the Kings will have their act together and wrap up a playoff spot. I do not want to go into a home and home with Ducks still trying to lock up a playoff spot.

No question. I think though that even if they did get a shot or two or three, it still comes down to the team trying to adjust to life without those guys.

@wavesinair,
I agree. I truly didn’t expect them to win. I considered this to be a game to gauge where the Kings are without Kopi and Willy. And they held their own for the just about all of the first two periods. Here’s what I’d like to see happen for the rest of the season and into the playoffs.
* For TM to find some way to light a fire under Penner if that’s even possible. I know Craig McTavish didn’t have a lot of luck in that Department.
* I would like Drew Doughty to take better care of the puck.
* Although I don’t have the answer given the Kings component parts, but I would like the coaching staff to come up with “something” to make the power play have at least a little power.
* I would like to see us seeded 4th or 5th for the playoffs.
I will be anxiously awaiting Saturday’s game against the Stars. They will be a very desperate team. They have already lost to San Jose. If they lose to us and Anaheim it will render thos easy games they have coming up against the Avs and Oilers meaningless.

Considering we were killing penalties for over 7 minutes, and our 1st line was invisable tonight, it’s not that surprising actually.
P.S. Had Luongo not thrown his stick at Richardson we would’ve had 1 shot on goal. So we got that goin for us, which is nice.

Didn’t the Kings win the last game in which they failed to get a SOG in a period (in 2003)? I recall being at a game against the ducks at Staples where the Kings failed to get a shot in the first period but ended up winning the game. Am I right?

Being objective, Clifford’s penalty was correct. Bad judgment on his part. Chalk it up to lesson learned.
Overall, Kings didn’t play that well and give Vancouver credit for getting them off their game. Vancouver does questionable plays at times and gets away with stuff, but that might be something Kings can learn from. There’s no denying that team is talented and deep. Kings need to crash the net and Luongo to get them off their game which is what I was expecting once Clifford’s penalty expired, but with less than 2 minutes in the game, too little too late.

If TM and DL insist that this team stays the same, they are in danger of losing all their remaining games and missing the playoffs. To blame Doughty for this loss is ridiculous. The Kings don’t have any offensive threats. There’s a lot of pressure on Doughty to pick up the slack. TM and DL, your assignment between now and Saturay is to find somebody in the minors who Can score or you might very well be scoring your golf game when the season Concludes. Sorry, but just being honest.

Look at the Kings roster and realize they have ZERO truly skilled offensive players now… so I expect a LOT of games in which they get 20-25 shots total from here on. It is what it is; they will have to be opportunistic and play a good shut down game, and after tonight Im very encouraged that they can keep winning with that kind of style, cause for most of the game they had the high-powered Canucks pretty well contained, and thats no easy chore.

OK, I just got back to my hotel from the game.
1.) If DD is going to show up and play like that, he needs to sit. Absoultely awful
2.) VAN fans are the worst ever. They are alreasy celebrating like they won the cup. Playing “Simply the best” on every TV timeout
3.) Honestly, I though that the game was called fair.
4.) Terry Murray is the worst coach in the NHL (next to Ron Wilson), playing Westgarth who looks absolutely lost out there. The 4th line was playing well, but you double shift someone like Simmonds who can actually sccore in that situation
5.) Cliffors has to be smarter that that. Probably not a major in reality, but you gotta know when you are playing in VAN that call is going to go against you.
Summary: Dustin Penner is the laziest player that I have ever seen. Completely worthless and uninspired. I would say that if he got a nickel for every time he moved his feet in a game, he wouldnt have a quarter. Boys played OK, 1-1 on the trip is not great, but certainly acceptible. I enjoyed watching them live.

I have never seen a guy look less interested in playing. I don’t want to pour it on the new guy, but I simply cannot believe how lazy he is.
