Kopitar surgery `successful’

The Kings have said that Anze Kopitar had “successful surgery” today to repair torn ligaments in his right ankle. Kopitar is scheduled to start some form of rehab work as soon as possible, but he’s not expected to be back on the ice until mid-summer at the earliest.

    So, he didn’t have a broken ankle and a sprain, tears, etc.? (Otherwise, I would expect to hear that they also set the bones.)

    @What’s the frequency, Kenneth?,

    This hasn’t been clarified I don’t believe, but from what I can deduce, it seems to me the “break” did not require surgery. If it did, surely they would have. This leads me to believe that the break itself is actually not bad, i.e. no splintering or even perhaps just a crack in the bone and that the bulk of the problem is the ligament damage.

    @wavesinair, Sounds about right.

    A “hairline fracture” would certainly be my preference. Sounds more and more like overall, the apparent broken bone isn’t a significant factor, since he’s going to have to be off of it a long time due to the soft tissue damage anyway.

    A great reason to win the Stanley Cup:

    Kopitar can fill it full of ice and use it to rest his ankle in.

    If players can poop in it and let their kids eat cheerios out of it, why not this?

    VERY happy to hear the good news! Rest up Kopi, the best ice bucket money can’t buy is on its way soon…

    @BrokeKingsFan, Claude Lemieux on the Howard Stern Show many years ago. He let Jackie Martling do (do) it.

    BrokeKingsFan Reply:

    @Cynic, Im at work right now so i cant open the link as it is blocked but when i get home i will check it out for sure. Thats just degrading though and a huge slap in the face to sir Stanley and Hockey IMO. It is Howard Stern so i really shouldnt be surprised.

    Capt Jam Reply:

    @Cynic,

    Hopefully it was the stunt Cup that does all the traveling and personal appearances rather than the real thing that’s in the vault in Toronto.

    King Taco Reply:

    @Cynic,

    Hopefully the pooping and eating cheerios isn’t happening at the same time.

Defense and goal tending wins championships. Believe in the LA Kings! Can’t understand the crazy questions out of Vancouver. They are getting cocky. Watch them get eliminated by Chicago.

    Kopi,

    Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. Take it one day at a time. Resist the temptation (prompted by your competitive nature) to overdo it. Each day may seem endless at this point, but with the passing of time, they’ll go by with increasing tempo. Once you’re back on the ice, what you’re struggling with now will become a distant memory. You’ll be in our thoughts and prayers.

    The old saying, that you never appreciate what you have until it is lost, comes to mind here. Not for us fan’atic’s, however. There is absolutely no doubt that Kopi is a beast, yet I’m sure that all of us can agree that there are higher gears that he is capable of achieving. With his strength of character, mental toughness, and of course new-found sense of regret, I foresee this ‘rehabilitation’ from his first (and hopefully last) major injury sparking a shear desire to absolutely dominate when he returns.

    Get well Kopi!..and GO KINGS!

    @Gislaw, So true. I have always loved Kopi, I’m still not over the fact that is out of the line-up until next season.
