After a month with the Kings, Dustin Penner is back in Edmonton, and not surprisingly, he was greeted by the media, which is always eager to catch up with former Oilers. The crowd moved from Penner to Jarret Stoll to Matt Greene, with Ryan Smyth escaping the attention because he stayed on the ice for some extra work. Yesterday, Penner talked about returning to Edmonton. In today’s Edmonton Journal, Jim Matheson got the Oilers’ side. Here’s what Terry Murray said today about Penner fitting in with the Kings, followed by the locker-room scene today. See if you can actually find Penner…
MURRAY: “Dustin Penner has become a part of the group very quickly. He’s got a great personality. The first day he came into the locker room, the guys were throwing a little bit of jabs at him, and he’s coming right back at them with one-liners. That’s just an indication that the guys are really willing to accept him and welcome him into the locker room to be an important part of the team. From that first day, in the group, he’s been a great fit, and I think his on-ice performance is getting better. There was good chemistry developing with Kopitar before the injury, so now we’ll get Handzus in that situation and hopefully it can continue.”

@RabidZiggy, he actually asked a question…
Simmer – “How do you explain losing your two linemates in a week Penz? Are you bad luck to all around you?”

Smytty knows how to duck the paparazzi. I would expect to see the Edmonton fans show their support for Penner tonight, he played great years for them

It’s interesting that in the Oiler article, it talks about what effect winning or losing tonight would have on the draft. Apparently there may be benefits both ways.
Also the coach mentioned some frustration at times with Penner. I hope he grows even more in his roles as a King.

Handzus should stay bon the 3rd line and give more ice time to Lewis instead

kopitar for slovenia media about his view on accident:
“In a game with more players I zadrsal the placeholder Mon album. For the back I had a defender of the opposing team and I wanted to create some space. At that moment I lost my balance and skate, I was stuck in a hole in the ice. When I fell to the body the earth, there has been a strong force, and then I broke my leg. it’s not okay, I knew immediately after a fall, as some cracked. Even when I was lying on the ice surface, which were severe pain and clearly I was that this will not be any good. When she explained to me what happened and how long it will last for rehabilitation, of course, was present disappointment. If I look in the other hand, is a success that I have for you a series of 330 consecutive games. It is true that the injury happened at the wrong time, just before the playoffs, but now I can not control. I look forward to what I alone can do to remediate the damage as soon as possible. Tomorrow I am waiting for surgery Followed by physiotherapy. It is important that this accounted for 100 percent, because I will best take care of my future career, “concluded Kopitar.

@JureEe,
Stuck in a hole on the ice. Great.
A day game after the Lakers played the night before. Basically 3 events in 24 hours at Staples.
If memory serves, the week before they played a day game like that too and players were falling all over the place. Foxy talked about it.
There are rinks all over the country that have similar loads as Staples and they don’t have the rep for being bad ice buildings. COMON STAPLES! GET IT TOGETHER.

@LA_1968, those damned Staples owners!!! Don’t the give a rats about the hockey team that plays in their building???
Oh wait, AEG owns the Staples center… now it makes so much more sense.

@Stuart,
I’ve been waiting to hear what happened in Kopi’s own words because I suspected a hole. But man this burns me to no end. The Kings have had bad ice forever. Why don’t they hire the best guy in the league to come in and handle this? Instead of a guy that just puts the rink together and says ‘well that’s the best I can do.”.
The game I refer to from the week before with the bad ice… I am pretty sure Kopi was interviewed between periods and he said the Kings would do the best they can but it’s the same for both teams. That’s the same thing they were saying at the Classic in Calgary outdoors when they stopped the game 10 times for 5 minutes a pop to fill in huge holes.
Second class deal.

@LA_1968, AEG doesn’t give .02 about the Kings and they’re playing conditions. The Lakers are happy, so AEG is happy.
You must have cringed when Uncle Pete bought the team… I know I did. You would imagine good ice could be had at some price, but are they willing to spend it on the red-headed stepteam? NO.
I wonder if PA even knows his #1 center is out for the count? I think that if we were projected to have a deep playoff run (3+ series) and the profit that AEG was expecting was suddenly cut short by and injury like this one, then maybe, MAYBE, something would be done about these terrible skating conditions…
IS TONIGHT ONE OF THE GAMES ON CHANNEL 13? I’m in San Diego and I can’t find it on any channels. Don’t get Prime Ticket. Am I watching it online?

@Stuart, After seeing his face in such pain, it makes me ask a question. Why didn’t they take him off on a stretcher??? Obviously it was his right ankle injured. They didn’t put a splint on it, he had to carried off the ice with his ankle holding the weight of his skates. I’m no Doctor, but it seems like common sense to have him horizontal at best. Maybe the dangling skate made it worse?????? Oh well. Really bothers me.
Kopitar you will be missed, but have a safe and successful recovery.

@Fabkings, Because he’s a hockey player that’s why. Hockey players are men, not children. If it had been a baseball player, they would’ve landed a medivac helicopter on the field because the guy’s in so much pain.

@CB14. Maybe so, but you completely lost the point off my post. The point WAS about Kopitar and his ankle not being secured, splinted, braced, whatever you call it. The macho stance about being a hockey player has NOTHING to do with medical attention regarding possible further injury to his already obvious ankle/ leg injury.
In other my question was…..could they (team trainers) do something different than what they did?? Ankle injury, heavy skate dangling from already injured ankle.
Now do you understand the post??

@Fabkings, I did understand your post, I just have always figured that the trainers felt that not immobilizing Kopi’s ankle wouldn’t damage it anymore so than it already was. Most sports trainers don’t immobilize a player when his ankle is injured, but they usually do when it’s a knee. I don’t know why that is, but i’m pretty sure they know more than we do about this type of thing(Not meant as an insult to you just my thinking on it). It would be an intresting question to ask a sports trainer why they immobilize knees but not other body parts. Mabye Rich could do an Q and A interview with one of the Kings trainers so that we could get answers on stuff like that and how they deal with concussions(I’ve always wondered what the treatment is for those except resting).

Interesting! They lose and they have a better shot at 1st draft pick..
These win and the pick we give them might be more significant..
All teams play to win, but losing tonight doesn’t suck for the Oilers…
