Trevor Lewis’ goal gave the Kings a 4-1 lead. Ryan Smyth carried the puck deep into the Colorado zone, then fed a pass through the crease to Lewis, who tapped the puck past Budaj from close range with 9:55 remaining in the third period.
As for Anze Kopitar, there isn’t likely to be an update until after the game.
The team is uniting…

@Dominick, YES! I think this could just be a great learning curve for the team to get through this, mature, and become an even better team when its all over.

Smyth’s best game in quite awhile. That’s leadership.

Yeah…, but not good info for Anze…

@kevin from toronto,
A bit. But I think everyone needs that. We have a strong team, it’s horrible losing Kopi, but he’s not the only one who can score, and if everyone steps up like Smytty has, we’ll be okay.

@kevin from toronto, Who needs Kopitar???? We are playing the Avs and could beat them with the “Hanson Brothers” playing on the first line. We are genuinely screwed losing our top two scorers…
Bring on the draft and the pre-season!!!

Not gonna lie, the last time I remember a team losing it’s top player was the 1990 Edmonton Oilers when they traded Gretzky. Of course they had Messier, Kurri, Anderson, etc etc…Losing our two top producers…we’re gonna need guys like Lewis to be a Chris Kontos type hero in the playoffs.

Someone said it’s amazing the emotion we have for this team. I’m so proud of this team, cause many of us are swimming in the unknown and Smitty breaks out of a slump, Lewis steps up in a huge way.
DL talks about the “right” kind of players – say want you want about the lack of speed, but we have the RIGHT kind of players.
Only goal we’ve given up is on a typical (weak) turn over from Doughnuts.
This team can get us to the playoffs. Hopefully that will be enough to have Kopi back.

Kopi was on track for 32 goals. Jw maybe another 4. We get 3 each from Lewis, Clifford, Richardson and Simmonds, then we make up for the loss of JW and Kopi. Penner gets it in gear and we are there, Wouldn’t we all look stupid if Kopi shows up on the ice at the next game? (Oh please, please, please, please, knocking on wood….)

Hard to discount how durable Kopitar has been. You don’t hit 330 straight games without being made of strong stuff. Here’s hoping that strength powers him through this and that it’s only a sprain. In the meantime, I absolutely LOVE how this team has picked up after the initial shock wore off. Score by committee and get it done. Excellent job, boys.
