End of regulation: 3-3

Patrick Marleau’s second goal of the game, with 4.1 seconds remaining in the third period, sent the game to overtime. After a scramble in front of the Kings’ net, Marleau pounced on a loose puck to the side of the net and beat Quick from close range to make it a 3-3 game.

Friggin Quick. That’s his game. Either lets in the easy one or the one that he absolutely has to save: fails! fails! fails! If I’m the coach Quick sits for the rest of the season to think about it and then maybe, just maybe he’ll get another shot. I am furious.

    [Reply]

    M.T. Net Reply:

@THEROCKNROLL80S, Quick is our best goaltender right now. And when his career is finished I wouldn’t be surprised if he is the best this franchise has ever had. Bad bounces. Give the Sharks credit.

Quick played well in regulation and was awesome in OT & the shootout. Count to 10 and get over it.

    Win or lose. Doesn’t matter.

They have serious issues with committing to defense at crucial moments in the game. They can’t shut it down when it must be shut down.

    [Reply]

    Osaka Reply:

@Scaught, Win or lose it doesn’t matter? Then what does? This isn’t figure skating dude, no points for style. The only thing that matters is winning. Winning games like this show character. You say the Kings gave up leads, so did SJ. Do the Sharks suck? That is what happens when TWO GOOD teams play a playoff like game.

    [Reply]

    Scaught Reply:

@Osaka, It’s part of their history, being consistently unable to shut down teams. And if they’re to win a Cup, they need to establish a systematic approach to playing defense when it matters. They won the game, but when was the last time they won a playoff series? I rest my case.

The Sharks show much more consistency, though yes, they have had their problems b/t the pipes with Nabokov’s inability to carry ‘em over the hump.

    [Reply]

    Gary Reply:

@Osaka, They had to kill 14 seconds with a neutral zone faceoff in the sharks end. Stanley cup contenders don’t blow games like that.
