@FiG17, One of my friends is a basketball fan and he thinks the\ 2nd assist is a silly point to give out. Although his point is valid at times, Simmer’s goal is a great example of why we still have it.

I liked Brownie’s and Dewey’s games tonight. Strong.

Quickers is the reigning undisputed king of NHL shootouts.

Kevin Westgarth was all over the ice tonight, more than making up for the absence of Justin Williams, and with yet another strong outing among a season long string of dominant performances, he has all but wrapped up the Hart Trophy.

    FemaleFan#1 Reply:

@KingsFanFTW, Don’t think he’s trashing Quick. Anyone who doubts Quicks abilities has been sleeping the last 2 seasons. But it’s a fact that we have been notorious this season for giving up goals within the first 2 minutes after we score. Not Quick….the team. I’m on the edge of my seat after every goal because of that fact. We need to produce more offensively to pull bigger leads so it’s not an issue. But in the mean time, Quick will keep tearin’ it up for us at the net! Love him!!

    [Reply]

    FemaleFan#1 Reply:

@ColoKingFan, Unfortunately, the fans have come to cringe the 2 minutes following a Kings goal. I haven’t been able to figure out WHAT it is, but they seem to be caught napping WAY too many times. After a goal is the time they should be most vigilant about protecting the net, especially with the lack of production they have had offensively lately. But FEEL THAT FIRE!!! Last time was amazing to watch. They played ALL 60. Something that unfortunately has been lacking the second half of this season. Let’s fight to the Cup, Kings!!!

TM’s system is boring and pathetic to watch..it takes away creativity and skill from our players. i believe we have a better team than the one TM has playing right now, his system is choking our players. we got beat by a team that had no bussiness in dominating us(blues), we got beat by a team that had a goalie which had only played 1 nhl game in over a year(ducks) and we cant beat and give away a point to a team that played the night before(flames)

I find myself wanting to by into all the “bad vibes” I see on here (not tonight per say, but in general) about the Kings performance. I’d like to point out a few things. . .

We’ve lost just 4 games out of the past 20 +

In the WC, we have only one team “out of the playoffs” that one their last game, while the EC has only two teams out of the playoffs lost their last game… so what? Look at my next point….

The EC has 4 teams in the playoffs that have a record with 5 or less wins in their last ten (because of my previous point, that the bottom half of the EC is winning big games, playing “spoiler” a bit).

The WC has… wait for it …. ONE team (Detroit) who is 4-4-3 team in their last 10 games.

Finally, the Kings would be 10 points into a playoff position in the EC, not 3. In the EC it only takes 79 points to be in the playoffs to date.

We are seeing a once in a lifetime anomaly in the WC.

So, let’s remember how good our team has been, how GREAT our goaltending has been – just to keep us going at this point. Said it the other day, we’re not there yet, we’re playing above our talent level, we’re stlll a couple of moves away.

I want to see more scoring, sure…. but we’re in it. And DEFENSE wins Cups. Not saying we’re going to win the Cup, but you gotta like our PK and style of play in the playoffs.

    GKG!

    PHO 6-3-1
    LA 6-2-2
    CHI 6-2-2
    NA 6-2-2
    ANA 8-2-2

All teams with 500 hockey or better… WAY better.

    PHI 4-4-2
    WAS 9-1-0
    BOS 4-3-3
    PIT 6-2-2
    TB 2-4-4
    MON 7-3-0
    NYR 6-4-0
    BUff 5-3-2

Their top teams are losing, our (WC) top teams keep winning.

    Proud of my Kings.

@Garrett, nice post yup we should be proud of the Kings They got back on their feet after a big time lost against the Blues and then lost again to the Ducks ugh lol

But win it against the Flames Thank you Kings we all love u Just win all the way

    vplaza Reply:

    @Garrett,

Half full kind of person, it looks like. The Kings have had a good record in the past 25 games, but they needed that after the two swoons they suffered this year.

And without scoring, their defense can only take them so far. They may be able two win a handful of games, but you can’t make it to the Cup, let alone win it, if you’re scoring a hair over one goal a game because your defense and goaltender can’t shut out the top teams every game.

Lack of PP scoring is going to kill this team’s playoff run.

Simmonds, Kopy,Quick and Stoll will move us up to playoff. But Smythh really picked a wrong time for a slump.

@bear777, I totally agree. He looks like hes just not into it. He showed no hustle this game. I was thinking about that all game, I dont know whats wrong with him

@bear777, Smyth is a tired old man that needs a nap. Hopefully he will be refreshed if he gets one.

You know what gets me nervous? Quick was actually handling the puck tonight! What’s with that? Yikes. Special quality time with Hexi?

I’ll take the two points and crossing my fingers for a breakout game on the offensive side this Thursday.

In other (off-topic) news, on Versus earlier tonight and, just now on NHL On The Fly, they sure are ripping (deservedly) on Matt Cooke . . . big suspension and that jerk had it coming. Have to wonder if that elbow was a career limiting decision.

    [Reply]

    Goring 19 Reply:

@KDinUT, well deserved suspension. If it were me I’d go just a bit farther and make it clear in no uncertain terms that if he pulls that kind of “stuff” once more, he’s out of pro hockey.

    [Reply]

    Say Days Ago Reply:

@KDinUT, Cook is a major douche bag. He pulls that crap all the time. this is like his 5th suspension for stupid crap like that. He doesnt deserve to even play in the league with play like that. Im glad the NHL threw the book at him….but he should have been suspended til next season. throughout the playoffs, not just the first round

    Goring 19 Reply:

    @Say Days Ago, agreed

    KDinUT Reply:

@Say Days Ago, The league is going to have to send really strong messages for this kind of stuff, no doubt about it.

Did anyone catch Foxy analyzing one of JJ’s shots from the point?

JJ was winding up to slap shot a pass he received, yet was essentially taking so long that he gave Kippy time to prep.

Foxy emphasized that it is the whole team, not JJ in particular, who have this bad habit. I know many here have pointed it out.

    TM???

    [Reply]

    KingsFanFTW Reply:

@Ari, TM doesnt tell them to winding up a shot

its the players fault for doing that they should of just shoot it

    [Reply]

    Say Days Ago Reply:

@Ari, yeah I saw that too and was thinking the same thing. sometimes I just dont get TM but hes still a good coach. just seems blind to certain things sometimes

    [Reply]

    Ari Reply:

Even if players fault – TM has to correct that.

    [Reply]

    PP Anybody? Reply:

@Ari, I’ve pointed this out several times on here for a while now. It’s the sky high pull back to the ceiling, telegraphing the release of their shot that’s allowing all the blocks. A simple quick wrist/snapshot would be hugely more effective for getting it through to the net to then pick up rebounds. I’ve been hoping for months that someone would address this, but it’s still the same every game.

    fsd1 Reply:

@PP Anybody?, And do you think they haven’t been coached in this at all? Come on people, It isnt TM’s fault a player pulls his stick back farther to take a freaking shot.

Just got back from the game, my voice is gone, and my heart is still pumping hard. Another great game from Quick, Brownie was hitting anything that moved, Simmonds made the Stoll goal happen, Kopi and Stoll clinched it in the shootout, and Quick was Quick in the Shootout. Big Win Boys. Lets have some Shark fin soup for dinner on Thursday. P.S. Get well soon Williams and Clifford.

I am surprised again no comment is made about Jacks mistake,,, If most players messed up Murray is quick to criticize and move them back on lines.. the way martinez and green are playing I would like them out there more than scuderi and jack who are struggling lately… once scuderi started playing with jack his +/- started a huge downfall… I know jack struggles but scuderi hasnt been great either lately

@Harty, Fairly accurate in your mind? Richardson mediocre? Hmmm, Westgarth? What did he do wrong when he was out there? JJ? You think that was his fault? Come on people, Doughty terrible? I sure am gload we lost this game by only 7 goals /sarcasm/
