Clifford back on ice

As he and the Kings had hoped, Kyle Clifford is back on the ice for today’s morning skate. Clifford is still not expected to play tonight, but his on-ice presence today certainly increases his chances of playing Thursday. More updates from the skate to come…

    Let’s get this thing going in the right direction, many are breathing down our necks for playoff spots. Its time to start a run to add some seperation.

    Great news Kyle that your back skating, one more game out would be best as it must be tender around the eye. Does anyone know what size of steak Cliffy would have to put on the eye to have it heel so quickly. *big T-Bone??

    @Harty, rib-”eye”

    @Harty, Believe me, this guy, at this time of year, doesnt care if his eye is tender. The only thing keeping him out of the game are the doctors and the coaching staff. I’m glad they are being careful with him. Hopefully will see him thursday against the sharks; pretending everyones jersey says ‘REAVES’ on the back.

    In the mean time lets extinguish the flames!!!

    @Harty, … the movie was “THE GREAT OUTDOORS” with John Candy.. not the summer rental

    mrbrett7 Reply:

    @Harty, Yup, The Great Outdoors…but you had John Candy right.

    @Harty,

    I don’t think a run will gain us separation, but will at least keep us in contention.
    rarely do you see teams in the conference losing in regulation any longer.
    I’ve never seen anything like it.

    Off topic here but former Kings prospect Teddy Purcell was just a guest on NHL Live on the NHL Network & XM radio. When asked how he’s been so good for Tampa Bay considering he really struggled when he was with the Kings his answer was “When I was in LA I was afraid to make a play in practice much less in a game.”. What the heck does that mean?

    @PaulHB, it means he was immature and a puss

    @PaulHB, thats an interesting comment, being that I remember TM saying how skilled TP was. We didnt see much of that skill in the games, so I assume TM was referring to practices. Maybe Rich could write that down and ask him what he meant the next time he is in town (hopefully for the SC finals)!

    KH Reply:

    @PaulHB, It means he probably didn’t want to stray away from
    The dump and chase system. He probably never had the chance to take the puck through the middle with speed and make an offensive move to try and score a goal. He was scared that if he made any type of creative move that he wouldn’t be playing the system and face consequences. That’s just my assumption

    John Reply:

    @KH,

    Well, if you watch him now he goes to areas he NEVER went to as a King. It’s all part of the maturation process of a young kid.

    Dilapidus Reply:

    @KH, That’s a good assumption in my eyes. A bit of a problem in for TP but potentially a big coaching problem. Chip and chase is not meant to be policy, AFAIK, but rather the mentality when you don’t have other options across the blue line.

    I hope that the Kings organization hears that and goes back to everyone and reinforces that lesson. FWIW, clearly the top guys have that message, Doughty ‘made a play’ twice in the last game, carrying the puck over the blue line and charging deep into the offensive zone.

    @PaulHB, It means Dean isn’t the idiot some people thought he was when he got rid of Purcell. If you’re afraid to lose your job you probably will. I would rather have a guy with half the talent and twice the balls, i.e Clifford. Glad I could get things back on topic for you.

    neil Reply:

    @Ian, It meant he didnt want to go away from the system…the same system that has made Poni ( a career 20 goals per year scorer) a non scorer.Iam not saying that is bad but it is what it is…. Same with Moulson.

    [Reply]

    John Reply:

    @neil,

    Or maybe Moulson & Purcell needed to play every day & here we just couldn’t do that in their stage in development. Poni would probably be close to 20 goals if he didn’t miss most of the 1st half of season & played on the 1st & 2nd line, not on the checking line.

    KC23 Reply:

    @PaulHB, Pretty sure it was a slap on TM about his system.

    [Reply]

    mrbrett7 Reply:

    @PaulHB, Tampa plays an up-tempo offense first system. The Kings do not…they play a defense first system.

    Defense wins championships.

    I’m done with this discussion.

    From Puck Prospectus, where Kopitar moved up to 4th overall in their rankings of forwards:

    “Only one player in the NHL leads his team in goals, assists, plus-minus, shots on goal and faceoffs won: Kopitar.”

    Stoll is the stud on faceoffs.
    Stoll 666 FOW 507 FOL 1168 FOT 57.0 FO%
    Hndzues 578 FOW 544 FOL 1122 FOT 51.5 FO%
    Kopitar 549 FOW 557 FOL 1106 FOT 49.6 FO%
    Overall in the NHL
    Stoll 10th FOW
    Kopitar 16th FOL
    Stoll 14th FOT
    Stoll 8th FO%
    Can’t say enough about how good he has been in the face off circle.

    @Scot, so do I however many know I’m bias and I think Cliffy is a big part of our room dynamics in a silent way….just knowing he’s there.

    Kyle has brought so much intensity and heart to this Kings team. He has a lot of fire that’s lacking in so many players. I hope that he comes back as his same old self. I’d hate to see him fall back like Simmonds did after his injury earlier this season. I’ve been looking for the drive to score and inforce the way he did last season and I’m sad to say that Wayne has let me down. But let’s keep fighting for our rightful spot in the playoffs!!! Because despite the ups and downs of the season…..they’ve earned it…. AND our boys deserve it.
    Go Kings!!!! XOXO
