The view from Anaheim

It’s increasingly likely that the two-game, home-and-home series at the end of the regular season will have playoff implications for the Kings or Anaheim Ducks, if not both teams. Four games into the six-game season series, the Kings have two regulation wins while the Ducks have one regulation win and one overtime win. The Ducks are back at it tonight, in a game against the Calgary Flames that has major playoff implications in the West. Here’s how last night’s Kings-Ducks game was covered by The Orange County Register, with the game story and a blog item, followed by some additional quotes from the Ducks’ locker room…

Perry Ducks, find way past Kings in OT

Emery earns second victory

COACH RANDY CARLYLE
(on the game…) “We knew the game would be exciting, and it was every bit of that. Obviously with the points that are up for grabs and the rivalry that’s been developing over the years, it was an excellent hockey game from our standpoint because we got the extra point.”

(on Ray Emery’s game…) “He gave us NHL-quality goaltending, and that’s what you ask for from your goaltender, to give your team a chance in the game. He stood tall, he withstood some barrages and made some big stops from a positional standpoint. He didn’t get rattled and he battled for our hockey club.”

CAM FOWLER
(on the game…) “At this stage in the season, we can’t afford to drop any games. It’s tough to give up one point to win two, but there’s worse things. We could be walking out of here without any. We’ll take the win and just move on from here.”

RAY EMERY
(on the game…) “We battled tonight and we have another one tomorrow, so it was a huge relief when Perry scored the goal. … It’s a fun time of the year to play. It’s easy to get up for the games. We realize one day you’re in eighth and the next day you’re 10th, then back into eighth. It’s a battle all the time and it’s fun to be in this position.”
